2025 Grand Design Class C
I was blown away by Matt's knowledge, accessibility, adaptability, and kindness throughout the process. This was my first ever RV rental so I needed to learn the nuances from scratch and he provided my wife and I great comfort on our short getaway for our 25th wedding anniversary - a gift to ourselves. The RV itself drove so nicely, expanded to provide incredible space for us, our 20 y/o daughter and pup.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Avilla, IN
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Avilla, IN?
RV rental in Avilla is one of the most affordable ways to explore northeast Indiana's lake country. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $130 per night, while Class C motorhomes often range from $150 to $220 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes can run $200 to $300 nightly. Hosts in this part of Noble County set their own pricing, so you'll find plenty of cheap RV rental Avilla options if you book midweek or during the shoulder season. Pro tip: book at least six weeks ahead of summer weekends, when nearby Chain O'Lakes State Park and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival drive demand sky-high.
visitindiana.com/things-to-do/outdoors/camping/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Avilla, Indiana?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Avilla, Indiana. Indiana does not require a special license or CDL for standard recreational vehicles that travelers typically rent, and every RV on RVezy falls within those everyday-driver limits. To be an approved driver on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit and you are set to roll toward Chain O'Lakes or Pokagon State Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I book an RV rental in Avilla?
Every RV rental in Avilla booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head off toward Bixler Lake or the Indiana Toll Road with real peace of mind. Protection plans cover accidental physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host. Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan, giving you backup for flat tires, lockouts, and tows. That extra confidence is a big reason first time renters love using RVezy for their first Avilla RV trip.

Booking an RV rental in Avilla is genuinely low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking on the platform, not the individual host, and the full cancellation terms are presented to you before you confirm payment. Refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook with travel credits. Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental Avilla travelers love is just a filter click away. On the RVezy search page, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see every host in the Avilla area who welcomes dogs and cats. Once you're on the road, your pup will have plenty of tail-wagging options: Chain O'Lakes State Park allows leashed pets on most trails and at campsites, and Pokagon State Park about 30 miles north has dog-friendly hiking around Lake James. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size limits, then pack a tie-out, water bowl, and current vaccination records.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/chain-o-lakes-state-park/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Avilla?
Yes, RV delivery Avilla travelers can count on is offered by many hosts on RVezy, and it's the easiest way to start your trip stress-free. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts who will drive the rig to Chain O'Lakes State Park, Bixler Lake Park and Campground, or even straight to your driveway in Avilla, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is a game changer if you're first time renting an RV and don't love the idea of backing a 30-foot motorhome into a tight site. Delivery fees vary by distance, so check the listing or message the host.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/chain-o-lakes-state-park/How far can I drive on an RV rental from Avilla?
You can roam as far as your adventure calls for. Many Avilla hosts include a generous daily mileage allotment (often 100 to 150 miles per day), and some list an RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for a longer Indiana RV trip. From Avilla you're about 30 minutes from Fort Wayne, 1 hour from the Indiana Dunes shoreline detour via the toll road, 2.5 hours to Indianapolis, 3 hours to Chicago, and 4 hours to Mackinaw City, Michigan. Pro tip: check the listing's mileage policy and overage rate before booking, and consider unlimited-mileage rigs if you're planning a multi-state loop.
in.gov/indot/Where can I camp with my RV near Avilla?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Avilla start with Chain O'Lakes State Park (just 8 miles west), which offers electric RV sites scattered across a nine-lake chain perfect for kayaking. Bixler Lake Park and Campground in Kendallville is about 10 minutes north with hookups and a swimming beach. Indian Springs Camping Resort in Garrett offers a family-friendly resort vibe about 20 minutes south. For a quieter weekend, Pokagon State Park near Angola (about 30 miles north) sits on Lake James with full amenities. Pro tip: state park sites at Chain O'Lakes regularly sell out months ahead for summer weekends, so reserve as soon as your dates are set.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/chain-o-lakes-state-park/When is the best time to visit Avilla in an RV?
Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping Avilla offers, with June and September being the sweet spot for great weather and smaller crowds. Summer highs in Avilla sit in the low 80s°F with warm, humid evenings, while spring and fall swing between 50°F and 70°F (great for hiking and campfires). Winter is genuinely cold, often dipping into the teens with lake-effect snow blowing in from Lake Michigan, but a four-season RV with heated tanks turns it into a cozy ice-fishing or holiday-light adventure. Pro tip: target shoulder season weekends if you want a state park site at Chain O'Lakes without a four-month wait.
weather.gov/iwx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Avilla?
You're going to do great, and Avilla is actually one of the friendlier areas in Indiana to learn. Roads around Noble County are flat, wide, and lightly trafficked outside Fort Wayne rush hour, so you can build confidence on US-33 or SR-3 before tackling I-69. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, the kitchen, slides, and waste systems, and you can text them anytime during your trip with questions. Choosing a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental Avilla travelers can confidently handle makes a big difference. Pro tip: do a 15 minute parking-lot practice loop before heading to your campground.
in.gov/indot/What happens if something goes wrong on the road in Indiana?
You're never alone out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so a flat tire on US-33, a dead battery at Chain O'Lakes, or a tow off I-69 is handled with one phone call. The RVezy support team is reachable around the clock before, during, and after your trip, and your host is usually just a text away for quick how-do-I questions like resetting the GFCI or starting the generator. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pickup and snap photos of the RV's exterior so any post-trip questions are easy to resolve.
in.gov/isp/Can I take my Avilla RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Avilla is built for crossing borders. Most RVezy hosts welcome interstate travel, which is great because you are a short hop from Michigan (about 1 hour to the state line), Ohio (about 45 minutes), and Illinois (around 3 hours to Chicago). Canada is allowed by many hosts as long as you confirm in writing with them first and travel with a valid passport. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: message the host through the listing before booking to confirm Canada is approved if you are eyeing Ontario beaches or Niagara Falls.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an Avilla RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on a family RV trip Avilla travelers plan, so it's worth a quick math check. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg), Class A gas rigs about 6 to 8 mpg, campervans (Class B) 15 to 20 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer 10 to 12 mpg. Indiana gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, often around $3.10 to $3.50 per gallon, and you'll find plenty of stations along US-33 and I-69 with RV-friendly pull-through pumps. Pro tip: download GasBuddy and fuel up in Avilla or Kendallville before pricier highway exits.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Avilla?
For Indiana DNR state park campgrounds like Chain O'Lakes and Pokagon, book as early as you possibly can: reservations open 6 months in advance through the official state reservation system at camp.IN.gov, and prime summer weekends often fill within hours of release. Private parks like Indian Springs Camping Resort and Bixler Lake Park typically need 4 to 8 weeks of lead time for weekends in June, July, and August. Weekdays and shoulder seasons are much easier and often walk-up friendly. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your travel date and have a backup site picked out before you log in.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/where-to-camp/What are driving conditions like around Avilla?
Driving an RV around Avilla is refreshingly low-stress. Noble County roads are flat farmland with gentle curves, county roads are well-maintained, and the main routes (US-33, SR-3, SR-8) have comfortable shoulders for a wider rig. The biggest things to watch for are Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural roads (slow down on hill crests), occasional deer at dawn and dusk, and winter lake-effect snow squalls that can drop visibility fast from November through March. Fort Wayne traffic gets heavy on I-69 during weekday rush hours, so plan pickup and drop-off outside 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM. Pro tip: keep a 5+ second following distance in any rig over 20 feet.
in.gov/indot/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Avilla?
Northern Indiana campgrounds are well set up for RVers. Chain O'Lakes State Park offers electric sites (50/30 amp), modern restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, and potable water fill spigots near the entrance. Bixler Lake Park and Campground includes full hookups (water, electric, sewer) and Wi-Fi. Pokagon State Park and Indian Springs Camping Resort both have dump stations and water fills. If you need a quick dump on the road, the Flying J in Auburn (10 minutes south of Avilla off I-69) has a public RV dump and freshwater fill for a small fee. Pro tip: arrive with a full freshwater tank and empty waste tanks for maximum flexibility.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/chain-o-lakes-state-park/What's actually inside the RVs available in Avilla?
More than you might expect. Most RVs listed on RVezy in the Avilla area come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often add a TV, onboard generator, outdoor speakers, and an awning, while many travel trailers offer bunkhouse layouts perfect for kids. Wi-Fi is sometimes included or available as an add-on. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and ask the host about Wi-Fi hotspots, generator hours, and whether bedding and kitchen kits are included.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Avilla offer a fun menu of extras that can transform your trip. Common add-ons include linen and towel kits ($25 to $75), kitchen and cookware packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators, propane refills, and pet cleaning fees if you're traveling with a dog. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Avilla, Kendallville, or nearby Auburn, but delivery to your campground is widely available for a per-mile or flat fee. Mileage policies vary: some listings include 100 to 150 free miles per day, others offer unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking instead of asking at pickup, since hosts sometimes can't add them last minute.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/where-to-camp/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at booking, and the charge covers the nightly rate, cleaning fee, protection plan, and any add-ons you select. The refundable security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment, pre-authorized on your card before pickup, and released after the trip assuming the RV is returned in the agreed condition with the correct fuel and waste levels. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at both pickup and drop-off with the host, so any deposit questions are easy to resolve and you can rebook your next Avilla adventure with confidence.
