Our family absolutely loved using this camper for our trip to Salamonie. Made our camping experience extremely comfortable. Loved the outdoor kitchen and shower. James provided a list of available supplies ahead of time and we were able to prepare accordingly. We had great communication anytime we needed it. The camper was clean and as described. We had a small mishap, we told James about, and he helped us resolve it without any problems. We hope to be able to rent this camper again in the future.

My wife and I had a great week with this RV. We found it to be a perfect size for the 2 and 3 night camping we were doing. We visited 2 New York State Parks and found the RV easy to get around in and park. Being able to pull over and walk to the back to make lunch on a travel day made us the go to vehicle for travel meals. Todd was a great host. He took his time to show me how everything worked and was available immediately during our trip when a question came up. It was obvious that he takes care of his RV. It was clean, well organized and time was taken to minimize squeaks and rattles. We are already looking to book this ride for next summer. Thank you for allowing us to rent your RV.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Columbia City, IN?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Columbia City, no Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required. Indiana's Bureau of Motor Vehicles only requires a CDL for vehicles weighing over 26,000 pounds combined, and virtually every motorhome and travel trailer on RVezy comes in well under that threshold. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and ID verification happens quickly through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your local auto club before your trip and you're set to hit the road through Whitley County.

Insider tip: state park sites book up fast for summer weekends, so reserve through camp.in.gov as soon as your dates are set.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Columbia City?

Late May through early October is prime time for an RV trip from Columbia City, with summer highs typically in the low 80s°F and pleasantly warm evenings perfect for campfire nights. June through August brings the warmest water for swimming at Chain O' Lakes and Pokagon, while September and early October deliver crisp days, fall color across Whitley County's hardwoods, and far fewer crowds at the campgrounds. Spring (April-May) is beautiful but bring rain gear, and winters here see real snow with January lows around 19°F. Pro tip: aim for Labor Day weekend or the last weekend of September for the sweet spot of warm days, cool nights, and easier campsite availability.

What if I've never driven an RV before in Columbia City?

First time renting an RV? You're in great company, and Columbia City is one of the easier places in the Midwest to learn. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slides, awnings, water system, generator, and propane before you leave the driveway. The terrain around Whitley County is mostly flat with gentle rolling hills, US-30 and SR-9 are wide and well-marked, and there's no mountain driving to worry about. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host offering delivery; they'll bring the RV to your campsite and set everything up. You can also message your host any time during the trip with questions.

You're never on your own: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one call away whether you're parked near Blue Lake or rolling down US-30. The roadside team handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing, and you can message your host directly through the RVezy app for questions about the specific RV. For mechanical issues, RVezy customer support coordinates next steps. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the generator, propane shut-off, and breaker panel during your walkthrough so you can troubleshoot the small stuff yourself.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Columbia City RV trip?

Fuel is one of the biggest variables in any RV budget, so plan around 8-10 MPG for Class C motorhomes, 6-8 MPG for Class A, and 12-15 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. Indiana gas prices typically run near or just below the national average in the Columbia City and Fort Wayne area. For a typical 4-night trip with 300 miles of driving, budgeting roughly $90-$150 in fuel is a reasonable starting point. Pro tip: fill up at the larger truck stops just off US-30 in Fort Wayne before heading north, prices in smaller Whitley County towns can run a bit higher.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Columbia City?

For Indiana state parks like Chain O' Lakes and Pokagon, book as early as possible: the Indiana Department of Natural Resources reservation window opens six months in advance through camp.in.gov, and summer weekends often sell out quickly. Private campgrounds in the Tri-Lakes and Blue Lake areas typically have more flexibility but still fill up for July 4th, Labor Day, and fall color weekends. Midweek summer stays and any time in May or September are much easier to grab last-minute. Insider tip: if you're set on a state park weekend, set a calendar reminder for exactly six months out and book the moment the reservation window opens.

What are local driving conditions like around Columbia City?

Driving an RV around Columbia City is refreshingly easy: the terrain is mostly flat with gentle rolling hills, and main routes like US-30, US-33, and SR-9 are wide highways well-suited to motorhomes and trailers. Watch for occasional Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on county roads east of town toward LaGrange County, and be aware that winters bring real snow from November through March. Summer thunderstorms can pop up quickly, so pull off at a safe rest area if visibility drops. Avoid downtown Fort Wayne's older streets during rush hour if you're in a larger Class A; stick to I-69 or US-30 for the smoothest route.

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds around Columbia City?

Most campgrounds near Columbia City offer the full RV setup you'd hope for. State parks like Chain O' Lakes provide electric sites (typically 30 and 50 amp at modern sites), modern restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, and potable water fill stations. Private parks in the Tri-Lakes and Blue Lake areas often add full hookups (water, electric, sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, laundry, and camp stores. Wondering where to park an RV in Columbia City for a quick overnight? Some local retailers like Walmart and Cracker Barrel may permit one-night stays with manager approval, so always call ahead. Insider tip: top off your fresh water tank before leaving the host's driveway.

Many listings also include a generator, outdoor awning, TV, and the option to use a Wi-Fi hotspot (cell service can dip in rural Whitley County). How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure: RVezy processes your booking directly through the platform with major credit cards, so you never hand cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup (it's separate from the booking payment) and isn't charged unless there's damage, excessive cleaning, or a policy violation. The hold is released after the trip once the RV is returned in the agreed condition. To avoid any issues, do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the agreed fuel level and empty waste tanks, and stick to the agreed mileage and generator hours.
