Kyle was outstanding. I rented his RV through RVezy for my wedding day, and it ended up being one of the best decisions we made. I wanted a comfortable, fun place for me and my groomsmen to hang out before the wedding, and Kyle completely delivered. He was enthusiastic about the idea from the beginning, very accommodating, and made me feel like he genuinely cared about helping make the day special. He drove about 1.5 hours to deliver the RV, arrived on time, communicated clearly the whole way, and even let me know when he was about an hour out. The RV was spotless, and he gave me a detailed walkthrough so I knew exactly how to use everything — audio, Bluetooth, A/C, bedrooms, propane, grill, all of it. On top of that, he went above and beyond by bringing a handmade cornhole set for us to use at no extra charge. That kind of thoughtfulness and customer service is rare. If you’re considering renting from Kyle, do it. He’s professional, reliable, generous, and clearly takes a lot of pride in giving people a great experience. I’d happily rent from him again.

What happens if I need to cancel my Saint Matthews RV booking?

Booking an RV in Saint Matthews is low-risk because RVezy sets and manages the cancellation policy across the platform, not the individual host. The policy depends on how far out from your trip you cancel, and there are protections built in for unexpected situations. Because the cancellation policy is not displayed inside individual listings, the easiest move is to review the current terms on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm your trip. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credit so you can rebook with confidence. Support is available before, during, and after your trip if plans shift.

When is the best time of year for a Saint Matthews RV trip?

Saint Matthews shines from mid-April through late October, but the sweet spots are May and September through mid-October. Spring brings Derby Festival energy and dogwoods in bloom with highs in the 70s. Summer (June through August) is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s, so look for an RV with strong air conditioning. Fall is the local favorite: crisp 60s and 70s, fiery sugar maples in Cherokee Park, and bourbon distillery tours at peak harvest. Winters are mild but unpredictable, with daytime highs in the 40s and occasional snow, so pick an RV with heated tanks if you are traveling December through February. Book early for Derby week in early May.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the Louisville area?

Yes, you'll be just fine, and most first-time renters in Saint Matthews are surprised how quickly they settle in. Your host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, the generator, and dumping tanks. First time renting an RV? Pick a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer to start, both drive like an oversized van or pickup. Stick to I-264 (the Watterson Expressway) and I-64 rather than narrow downtown streets, and avoid the low clearances under the railroad bridges on Mellwood and Bardstown Road. Better yet, ask the host to deliver. RVezy support and 24/7 roadside help are one tap away if you ever feel stuck.

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much will gas cost?

Plan realistically and you'll stay on budget. Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes 10 to 14 mpg, campervans (Class B) 16 to 20 mpg, and most tow vehicles with a trailer land around 10 to 13 mpg. Kentucky gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, often $2.90 to $3.40 per gallon for regular unleaded in the Louisville metro. A 300-mile round trip to Mammoth Cave in a Class C will likely cost $80 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up off the interstate in Saint Matthews or Middletown before heading east toward Red River Gorge, where pumps are pricier and farther apart.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Saint Matthews?

Book early and you'll lock in the best spots. For Kentucky State Park campgrounds like General Butler, My Old Kentucky Home, and Taylorsville Lake, reservations open through the official Kentucky State Parks system and popular weekends fill up 3 to 6 months out. Mammoth Cave National Park sites can be reserved on Recreation.gov up to 6 months ahead and sell out fast May through October. For Derby Week (first weekend in May), Forecastle, and Bourbon & Beyond, book Louisville-area private campgrounds like Louisville North or KOA Louisville Metro 6 to 9 months ahead. Midweek stays are easier, often available a week out. Best campgrounds near Saint Matthews reward planners.

What are driving conditions like in and around Saint Matthews?

Driving in Saint Matthews is friendly for RVs once you know the basics. The town sits at the crossroads of I-264 (Watterson Expressway) and US 60 (Shelbyville Road), both wide and easy to navigate in a motorhome. Avoid the low railroad bridges on Mellwood Avenue and the narrow lanes through downtown Louisville's Whiskey Row. Watch for afternoon thunderstorms in summer and the occasional winter ice storm December through February. Rush hour on I-64 westbound into downtown crawls between 7 and 9 a.m., so head out mid-morning. Once you are on the Bluegrass Parkway or I-65 south, it is smooth, scenic, rolling-hill driving all the way to the Bourbon Trail or Mammoth Cave.

Most private parks like Louisville North Campground, Grandma's RV Camping, and KOA Louisville Metro offer full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Kentucky State Parks like Taylorsville Lake and General Butler typically offer electric and water at the site with a central dump station and bathhouse. Need to dump or fill water on the road? Pilot and Flying J locations along I-65 and I-64 offer dump stations for a small fee, and most KOAs allow non-guest dumping for around $15. Always top off fresh water before heading into the Daniel Boone National Forest.

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Kentucky on RVezy, your trip total is charged through the platform, so you never hand cash or a card to the host directly. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV type and host. As long as the RV is returned in the same condition (clean, tanks dumped if required, no damage beyond normal wear), the deposit is released back to your card after the trip. To avoid issues, do a quick video walkaround at pickup and dropoff with the host. That five-minute habit prevents most deposit disputes.

Can I take my Saint Matthews RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?

Yes to nearby states. Saint Matthews sits right at the Indiana border, so crossing into Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, West Virginia, or Virginia is generally fine on RVezy rentals and a huge part of what makes Louisville such a great RV hub. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance arrangement, so message the host directly before booking if you are dreaming of Niagara Falls or Toronto. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular cross-border trips include Indiana's Brown County State Park (90 miles), Nashville (175 miles), and the Great Smokies straddling Tennessee and North Carolina.
