2025 East to West Travel Trailer
My family and I just returned from an unforgettable RV trip. We rented Randy & Kim's travel trailer and had it delivered to the Fort Custer Recreation Area near Kalamazoo, MI. The RV was literally brand new, very clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed. We really appreciated the spacious living area, kitchen, comfortable beds, outdoor awning and most of all - Kim's and Randy's hospitality. They made sure that we were always taken care of,- starting with proper & prompt communication, having the travel trailer set up & ready to walk into to a detailed walkthrough and ensuring that everything worked as it should. I highly recommend Randy & Kim! You can't find better hosts!!

We had a great time working with Raber Family Travel. The trailer was such a blessing as our daughter and son-in-law just moved and there was no room at the inn yet. The kitchen was well stocked, the new ROKU TV was nice (I recommend bring your own ROKU), both inside and outside rugs where provided.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Marshall, MI?

A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Marshall, Michigan. The State of Michigan does not require a special endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes you'd typically find on the platform. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification is handled through the booking platform so the process stays simple. Visiting from another country? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license works for short visits. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how straightforward the rules are, leaving you free to focus on planning stops in Marshall's National Historic Landmark District.

When is the best time to take an RV trip in Marshall?

Marshall shines from late May through mid October, with the sweet spot being June through September when daytime highs sit roughly between 75 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. July and August are peak camping months with lively events like the Calhoun County Fair. September delivers warm days, cool nights, and smaller crowds, while early October brings beautiful fall color along the Riverwalk. Spring is lovely too, but bring layers since April overnight lows can still dip into the 30s. Avoid mid winter unless you've booked a four-season rig with heated tanks.

Are RVs available in winter near Marshall?

Yes, winter RV adventures are possible in Marshall for travelers prepared for cold weather. Some local hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks and enclosed underbellies that handle southern Michigan's cold snaps, where January lows commonly drop into the teens and seasonal snowfall is significant. Most local campgrounds close for the season in late fall, so winter renters typically use the RV on private property, at a host's storage lot with hookups, or at year-round parks farther south. Message the host before booking to confirm winter readiness, freshwater plans, and propane availability. Bonus: a cozy RV makes a great basecamp for Marshall's holiday lights downtown.

I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Marshall a good idea for first-timers?

Marshall is a great place for first time renting an RV. The area's flat to gently rolling terrain, low-traffic country roads, and short distances between campgrounds make it stress free for new drivers. Every host on RVezy provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, tanks, and driving tips, so you won't be left guessing. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and setup to your campsite at Camp Turkeyville or Tri-Lake Trails. Pro tip: practice a few turns and reverses in a quiet lot before heading out. Most first-timers feel confident within the first hour behind the wheel.

Pro tip: snap a quick photo of any dash warning lights before calling so the technician arrives prepared. Confidence like this is why renters keep choosing RVezy.

Can I drive my Marshall RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, multi-state RV road trips from Marshall are doable and popular. You can drive into Indiana (Indiana Dunes is about 130 miles southwest), Ohio, Illinois (Chicago is around 195 miles), and beyond without extra paperwork. Cross-border travel to Canada via the Blue Water Bridge at Port Huron is sometimes allowed, but it depends on the host and the insurance attached to that listing, so always message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Bring your passport for any Canadian crossing, and the rest of the lower 48 is wide open.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Marshall RV trip?

Fuel is one of the easier costs to predict here. Most Class C motorhomes around Marshall get roughly 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans 15 to 20 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer 10 to 14 mpg. Recent Michigan gas prices have hovered around $3.20 to $3.50 per gallon, with stations along I-94 and I-69 typically a few cents cheaper than smaller towns. For a 300 mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $115 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Marshall or Battle Creek before heading into smaller towns like Bellevue or Union City, where pump prices tend to climb. Apps like GasBuddy make planning even easier.

How far ahead should I book a campground near Marshall?

For the best sites, book early, but you have options even last minute. Michigan state park campgrounds like Fort Custer Recreation Area open reservations six months ahead through the Michigan DNR's reservation system, and popular summer weekends fill quickly. Private parks like Camp Turkeyville RV Resort take reservations year round and often have midweek openings even in July. For Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends, lock in your campsite 60 to 90 days out. Pro tip: if you strike out on a Saturday night, try a Sunday through Thursday stay instead, when many sites are wide open. Then book your RV rental in Marshall, MI to match.

What are driving conditions like around Marshall?

Driving an RV around Marshall is refreshingly easy. The town sits at the crossroads of I-94 and I-69, both wide, well-maintained interstates with lower traffic than bigger metros. Local roads are flat to gently rolling with no mountain passes or steep grades, and downtown Marshall has room for larger rigs on main streets like West Michigan Avenue. Watch for two seasonal quirks: deer are common at dawn and dusk on rural roads, and winter snow can quickly add black ice, especially on bridges. The Michigan Department of Transportation's Mi Drive site shows real-time road conditions. Pro tip: avoid the I-94 and I-69 interchange during Friday afternoon rush if you're towing.

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Marshall?

Most campgrounds near Marshall come well equipped for a comfortable stay. Expect 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups at full-service parks like Camp Turkeyville RV Resort, plus pools, laundry, bathhouses, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Tri-Lake Trails adds lake swimming and fishing. Dump stations are available at most private parks and at Fort Custer Recreation Area for a small fee if you're passing through. Fresh water fill-up is standard at most campground entrances. Pro tip: stock up on groceries in Battle Creek or downtown Marshall before checking in, since on-site stores carry basics but at higher prices. A little prep makes RV camping in Marshall feel effortless.

Mileage policies vary, from around 100 free miles per day up to unlimited, so read the listing carefully. How do payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy at the time of booking with a credit or debit card, with no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment before pickup, with the amount set by the listing, and it's released after a smooth return with no damage or extra cleaning needed. To keep things easy, do a walkthrough with the host at pickup and dropoff and snap timestamped photos of the interior, exterior, tanks, and odometer. Return the RV on time, clean, and per the listing's instructions, and your deposit comes back quickly. That clarity is part of what makes booking an RV rental in Marshall with RVezy feel reliable from start to finish.
