Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Mount Pleasant, SC

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Mount Pleasant, SC?

RV rental in Mount Pleasant is more affordable than many travelers expect, with most listings on RVezy ranging from about $95 to $275 per night depending on the RV type and season. Travel trailers and pop-ups sit at the lower end, while Class A motorhomes and luxury fifth wheels are at the top. To find a cheap RV rental in Mount Pleasant, aim for midweek pickups, book in late winter or early summer before the Charleston tourism peak, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Rentals around Spoleto Festival in late May and the Cooper River Bridge Run book out fast, so reserving 2 to 3 months ahead helps lock in better pricing.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Mount Pleasant?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Mount Pleasant, SC. South Carolina does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, even big Class A motorhomes. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy will verify your ID through the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork to handle in person. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the process is, you can be approved and booked the same day.

Is protection included with my Mount Pleasant RV rental?

Yes, every RV rental in Mount Pleasant booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 17 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip, which is reassuring for first-time renters. During checkout you choose your coverage level (this is set by RVezy, not the host), so you can select higher protection if you are crossing the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge into downtown Charleston or heading up the coast toward Myrtle Beach. Book confidently knowing help is one call away.

What if I need to cancel my Mount Pleasant RV trip?

You have flexibility built in. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every booking includes a short grace period after you book where you can cancel for a full refund. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. This matters on the South Carolina coast where tropical weather can occur from August through October. You will see the full policy spelled out at checkout before you confirm, so booking your Mount Pleasant RV trip is low risk. Lock in your dates now and adjust later if plans change.

Can I bring my dog on a Mount Pleasant RV rental?

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Mount Pleasant is easy to find. Filter for Pet-Friendly on RVezy and you will see many listings where dogs are welcome (a small pet cleaning fee usually applies). Mount Pleasant is one of the most dog-loving towns in the Lowcountry: Sullivan's Island Beach allows leashed dogs with seasonal off-leash hours in the early morning and evening, and the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park welcomes leashed pups along the pier. Palmetto Islands County Park has hundreds of acres of trails to roam. Bring paw-safe sunscreen and water, marsh boardwalks get hot on summer afternoons.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite or vacation rental in Mount Pleasant?

Yes, RV delivery in Mount Pleasant is one of the smartest options for first-timers. Many RVezy hosts will deliver the RV directly to Mount Pleasant/Charleston KOA, James Island County Park, Lake Aire RV Park, or even a private driveway on Isle of Palms, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. This is ideal if you are flying into Charleston International Airport (CHS) and prefer not to drive a large rig across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on day one. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer it.

How far can I drive on a Mount Pleasant RV trip?

Plenty far, and Mount Pleasant is an excellent launch pad. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), and some list rentals with unlimited mileage if you're planning a longer loop. From Mount Pleasant you can reach Myrtle Beach in about 95 miles (under 2 hours), Hilton Head Island in roughly 110 miles, Savannah, GA in about 110 miles, Hunting Island State Park in around 90 miles, and Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains in about 280 miles. If you're planning a big RV road trip from Mount Pleasant, message the host before booking to negotiate extra miles up front, it's almost always cheaper than paying overage at return.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Mount Pleasant?

Mount Pleasant has one of the longest RV seasons on the East Coast. The sweet spots are mid-March through May (highs in the 70s, low humidity, azaleas blooming) and mid-September through November (highs in the 70s to low 80s, fewer crowds, prime beach weather). Winters are mild with highs around 60°F, so December through February is great for snowbirds escaping the north. July and August are hot (90°F+) and humid with afternoon thunderstorms, but campgrounds run sales then. Pro tip: book around the Charleston Wine + Food Festival (early March) or Spoleto (late May/early June) for an unforgettable RV camping Mount Pleasant experience.

I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay?

You'll do great, the first time renting an RV is easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup: they'll walk you through the slides, generator, propane, holding tanks, awning, and dash, and you can text them throughout your trip with questions. For your first Mount Pleasant rental, consider a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer, they handle more like a large truck. Avoid driving downtown Charleston's narrow historic streets (King Street and the area south of Broad have low-hanging oak limbs); instead, park at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park and take the free CARTA shuttle across the bridge.

What happens if the RV breaks down during my Mount Pleasant trip?

You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked at Patriots Point or stuck on I-526. Roadside assistance covers situations like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also a direct lifeline: most respond within minutes via the RVezy app and many can troubleshoot issues like a tripped GFCI or stuck slide right over the phone. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save those numbers in your phone before pulling out and relax.

Can I take my Mount Pleasant RV rental into other states?

Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, and Mount Pleasant is ideally located for it. Popular RV road trips from Mount Pleasant include north to Myrtle Beach (about 95 miles), south to Savannah and Tybee Island in Georgia (about 110 miles), inland to Congaree National Park (about 110 miles), or the longer haul to Asheville and the Great Smoky Mountains (about 280 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada may be permitted with host approval and an insurance check. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Message your host before booking to confirm your route and you are set.

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect and how do I budget?

Plan smart and fuel won't bust your budget. Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 mpg, Class C motorhomes 10 to 14 mpg, Class B campervans 18 to 22 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg combined). South Carolina has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, averaging around $2.90 to $3.20 per gallon in 2026, so a Charleston-to-Myrtle-Beach round trip in a Class C costs roughly $50 to $70 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Costco or Sam's Club on Wando Crossing Boulevard in Mount Pleasant before heading out, the savings add up fast.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Mount Pleasant?

For the best campgrounds near Mount Pleasant, book 2 to 6 months ahead during peak season (March through May and September through November). South Carolina State Park sites at Edisto Beach, Hunting Island, and Huntington Beach open reservations 13 months in advance on the official SC State Parks reservation site and they fill within hours for spring weekends. James Island County Park is bookable through Charleston County Parks online. Mount Pleasant/Charleston KOA and Lake Aire RV Park take direct bookings on their websites. Pro tip: if you strike out on weekends, midweek Sunday-through-Thursday stays are often wide open and 20% cheaper. Set a reminder to book early and you're golden.

What are local driving conditions like around Mount Pleasant?

Mount Pleasant is RV-friendly once you know a couple of quirks. The main artery, US-17 (Johnnie Dodds Boulevard), is wide and easy to navigate with multiple RV-friendly gas stations. The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge connecting Mount Pleasant to downtown Charleston is a 1,546-foot cable-stayed bridge with three lanes each direction, no truck or RV restrictions, just hold the wheel firm on windy days. Skip the narrow streets in downtown Charleston south of Calhoun Street, oak canopy clearances dip below 11 feet in spots. I-526 (Mark Clark Expressway) is the fastest way to get around the metro. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms in summer, they pass quickly but reduce visibility hard.

What amenities can I expect at Mount Pleasant campgrounds?

Most established RV parks near Mount Pleasant offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), and many add pools, laundry, Wi-Fi, and pet areas. Mount Pleasant/Charleston KOA has a 30-acre fishing lake, kayak rentals, and a dog park; Lake Aire RV Park has hot tiled showers and a catch-and-release lake; James Island County Park includes a splash pad and a disc golf course. Dump stations are standard, and if you need to dump between sites, the Charleston Air Force Base recreation area and several Pilot/Flying J stations along I-26 offer dump service. Potable water fill-ups are available at every full-hookup campground listed above.

What equipment and amenities come with the RV itself?

More than you'd expect. Most RV rentals in Mount Pleasant come fully equipped: queen or king beds, a kitchen with fridge, microwave, stove, and cookware; a bathroom with toilet and shower; roof-mounted air conditioning (a must for South Carolina summers); a furnace for cooler winter nights; and DOT-approved seatbelts for travel. Many hosts also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning with lights, camp chairs, and a propane grill. Wi-Fi hotspots and onboard generators are common on Class A and Class C motorhomes. Each RVezy listing shows a detailed amenity list, so you can filter for exactly what your family needs before booking.

What add-ons and pickup options are available?

Plenty, and the right add-ons make your Mount Pleasant RV trip dramatically easier. Popular host add-ons include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generator use (often $3 to $5 per hour beyond a daily allowance), bike racks, kayak racks, portable grills, and outdoor furniture. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a public lot in Mount Pleasant or nearby Charleston, often a 15-minute Uber from Charleston International Airport (CHS). Mileage policies vary, common is 100 miles per day with extra miles at $0.30 to $0.45 each. Want one-way drop-off in Savannah or Myrtle Beach? Message the host first, several Mount Pleasant hosts will arrange it for an additional fee.

How does payment and the security deposit work on a Mount Pleasant RV rental?

Payment is simple and fully online through RVezy, with no cash exchanged at pickup. You pay your booking total (rental plus fees plus protection) with a credit or debit card when you book, and the security deposit is pre-authorized (held, not charged) on your card a few days before your trip starts. Deposit amounts on Mount Pleasant RV rentals typically range from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition with the proper fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after your trip ends. Take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, it is the easiest way to avoid any back-and-forth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Where can I park or stay overnight in Mount Pleasant if I'm not at a campground?

You have options. The Town of Mount Pleasant does not restrict RVs parked in a private driveway as long as they don't block the right-of-way, so booking a host's driveway through RVezy is totally legitimate. For traveling overnight stays, the Walmart Supercenter on US-17 and the Cracker Barrel near Patriots Point have historically allowed RVs to park overnight with manager permission (always call ahead). Street parking overnight in residential Mount Pleasant is not allowed, and the Memorial Waterfront Park clearly prohibits overnight parking. Your safest play for a stress-free night is one of the local campgrounds like KOA or Oak Plantation. Plan ahead and you'll sleep easy.
