Brett is an amazing host, and the experience greatly exceeded expectations. Brett assisted with the hookup and went above and beyond to get us going. The towing was extremely easy, but recommend a truck if you're going to be taking it any distance. You'll also need the circular wiring connector. The RV itself was amazing. In my opinion the photos don't do it justice, and the set up is perfect. Brett configured us for dry camping with no hookups, and everything worked exactly like you'd want it. The batteries give you a bit of power for lights and fans if you don't have the generator going, and the generator was very easy to hookup. We didn't need to use the AC, but it seemed extremely good. The generator Brett has as an addon for the rental was very nice -- small enough to move around easily, and it has an electric start, so no pulling required. The bed was very comfortable and long enough for a 6'2" guy. Everything was clean and well maintained, and all of the chocks/cables/hoses were easy to access. We also didn't end up using the bathroom much, but it's a full shower/toilet and was much nicer and larger than expected. On a longer trip it would work great. Small detail, but the blackout shades were amazing for sleeping in. I highly recommend considering this option for your RV rental -- don't be put off by the teardrop shape, it's very roomy inside, extremely modern, and it has everything you need for a great trip. I wasn't towing it for a long distance, but I imagine the fuel savings due to the streamlined shape would add up. I will absolutely be renting again the next time I'm in the area.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Gatesville, TX?

For the vast majority of RVs you can rent on RVezy in Gatesville, your regular Class C Texas driver's license (or your home state/country equivalent) is all you need. What if my plans change? Can I cancel my Gatesville RV rental?

Yes, and you are not locked in the moment you book. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every rent an RV in Gatesville booking, and that policy includes a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Cancellations closer to your trip date are handled based on how far out you are and whether circumstances like severe Central Texas weather or a declared natural disaster apply. Because timelines and refund amounts depend on those conditions, the easiest move is to review the current policy at checkout or contact RVezy support. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Hill Country rigs and the most flexibility.

When is the best time of year for a Gatesville RV trip?

March through May and October through early November are the sweet spots for RV camping Gatesville visitors love. I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Gatesville?

Yes, and Gatesville is honestly a great place for first time renting an RV. Roads here are wide, traffic is light, and Highway 36 and US-84 are straight, flat, and easy to navigate compared to a major metro. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, leveling, awning, water systems, and dump procedure, and you'll have their phone number plus 24/7 RVezy roadside assistance the entire trip. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and setup directly to your campsite. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C or travel trailer for your first trip; they handle nearly like an oversized SUV and park easily at local RV parks.

What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

For mechanical issues that affect your stay, document with photos and contact support right away. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number to your phone before leaving pickup, and you will feel confident out on the road.

Cross-border note: trips to Mexico aren't allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits, so keep your route in the U.S. Pro tip: message your host before booking if you're planning over 500 miles total.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Gatesville RV trip?

Fuel is very manageable here because Texas gas prices consistently run below the national average, typically $2.80 to $3.30 per gallon in the Gatesville area. Realistic fuel economy: campervans (Class B) get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches get 6 to 9 MPG, and a half-ton truck towing a travel trailer averages 10 to 13 MPG. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Temple (about 35 miles south on I-35) for some of the cheapest diesel and gas in Central Texas, plus famously clean restrooms and great brisket sandwiches.

How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Gatesville?

Earlier is better, but Gatesville is not as competitive as Austin or the Gulf Coast. For Mother Neff State Park (the nearest state park, about 25 miles southeast), book through the Texas State Parks reservation system up to 5 months ahead, especially for March through May weekends. Privately run parks like Hidden Valley RV Getaway and Gatesville RV Park usually have weekday availability even a few days out, but holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) should be locked in 6 to 8 weeks ahead. Pro tip: if everything is booked, ask your RVezy host about delivery to a private property near Gatesville.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservations

What are local driving conditions like around Gatesville?

Driving around Gatesville is refreshingly relaxed. Coryell County roads are mostly flat to gently rolling terrain with wide shoulders, light traffic, and minimal congestion, so a motorhome rental Gatesville first-timers choose handles easily. Watch for a few specific things: deer at dawn and dusk (especially along FM 116, FM 107, and US-84), occasional flash flooding at low-water crossings during spring thunderstorms (always Turn Around, Don't Drown), and summer heat that can stress tires, so check pressure each morning. Avoid driving a Class A coach through downtown Gatesville's Main Street square; use the Loop 198 bypass instead. Pro tip: gusty crosswinds pick up on open stretches in March, so keep both hands on the wheel.
txdot.gov/safety.html

What amenities will I find at Gatesville-area campgrounds?

You'll find more than you'd expect for a small Central Texas town. Most Gatesville RV parks (Hidden Valley RV Getaway, Gatesville RV Park, Hideaway RV Park, Shining Star RV Park) offer full hookups with 30/50-amp electric, fresh water, and sewer at each site, plus WiFi, laundry, and pull-through sites for big rigs. Faunt Le Roy City Park has electric and water but no sewer, so plan a dump stop. The most convenient dump station for boondockers is at Gatesville RV Park on Texas 36 Business. Fresh-water fills are available at any full-hookup park or the Faunt Le Roy spigots. Pro tip: cell service is reliable in town (Verizon and AT&T both strong) so streaming and remote work are easy.
gatesvilletx.gov/

What features and amenities come with RVs rented in Gatesville?

You'll be impressed by how home-like these rigs are. Most RVs available for campervan rental Gatesville and motorhome rental Gatesville bookings include a real bed (queen or king), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning, propane furnace, and dinette seating with proper seatbelts for travel. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often add a generator, outdoor TV, awning with LED lighting, and bunk beds (great for a family RV trip Gatesville parents love). Travel trailers and fifth wheels usually need to be towed but offer more interior space. Pro tip: check the listing photos for solar panels and inverters if you're planning to boondock.

What is a local insider tip for visiting Gatesville?

Here is something most visitors miss: Gatesville is known as the Spur Capital of Texas, and the Coryell Museum and Historical Center downtown houses a renowned antique spur collection; it is a uniquely Texan stop. Pair that with an evening at the historic Last Drive-In Picture Show on Highway 36 and you have an authentic small-town Texas night out that no Austin or Waco RVer gets to experience. The historic Coryell County Courthouse square is also beautifully restored and walkable. Pro tip: plan your RV camping Gatesville trip around the annual Spurfest in the fall for live music, BBQ, and the cowboy culture this town is genuinely famous for.
