2024 Forest River Travel Trailer
Great constant communication in pickup and drop off. Wonderful trailer/RV and all things needed for camp setup included, and then some (excellent documentation and instructions provided after the hand-off, very thoughtfully stocked). Very comfortable in all changing weather conditions! The “electric fireplace” really made the trip pleasant and comfortable. Wonderful time and trip in this easy hauling RV. Drop off was super easy and helpful by the owners. Will rent again.

2022 Cruiser RV Travel Trailer
Host was great. Walked through trailer and common operations before pick up. Delivery was very simple. RV did its job. Taxes and fees on top of RV rental are substantial. Price per night for the RV alone was reasonable.

2022 Grand Design Travel Trailer
We had a great experience renting this travel trailer. It was very well maintained, clean, and comfortable throughout our stay. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the fully stocked kitchen was a plus! The host was excellent—very responsive both before our trip and while we were on the road. We did run into an issue with the generator connection, but the host was quick to respond and genuinely helpful in troubleshooting the problem. Overall, despite the minor hiccup, we really enjoyed the trailer and appreciated how well it was cared for. We’d happily rent from this host again.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Gun Barrel City, TX
How much does an RV rental in Gun Barrel City typically cost?
An RV rental in Gun Barrel City is one of the most affordable ways to enjoy Cedar Creek Lake. Travel trailers typically run about $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes around $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches $250 to $400. Many hosts offer weekly discounts, which helps if you are planning a longer Cedar Creek RV trip during summer. For a cheap RV rental in Gun Barrel City, look at travel trailers with delivery to a nearby park like Purtis Creek State Park, since you save on fuel and skip the towing learning curve. Midweek pickups often unlock the best nightly rates.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gun%20Barrel%20City%2C%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Gun Barrel City, TX?
Good news for first-timers: a regular Class C Texas driver's license (or the equivalent from your home state) is all you need to rent an RV in Gun Barrel City for virtually every motorhome and travel trailer on RVezy. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license for personal RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, which is heavier than the rigs typically listed on the platform. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the app, so there's no paperwork at pickup. No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for personal RV use in Texas, period. Out-of-state visitors are welcome too: your home state license is honored across Texas highways.
tdlr.texas.gov/driver/What protection and roadside coverage comes with my booking?
You are covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Gun Barrel City through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on State Highway 198 or a dead battery at a Cedar Creek boat ramp is just a phone call away. Protection plans cover damage to the RV at different coverage tiers that you select during checkout, and roadside assistance is included with every plan. If it is your first time renting an RV, choosing a higher protection tier is a small upcharge for a more relaxed Cedar Creek Lake RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Gun Barrel City RV booking?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and there is a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far you are from your trip start date. Because the cancellation policy is handled by RVezy rather than each individual host, you get consistent treatment no matter which listing you choose. If the host cancels, you receive a full refund or travel credit. Book early to lock in the best rigs for summer weekends at Cedar Creek Lake, then finalize your campground plans once your dates are confirmed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Gun Barrel City RV trip?
Absolutely, and you're heading to dog-heaven. Pet-friendly RV rental in Gun Barrel City is easy to find: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Leashed dogs are welcome on all the trails at nearby Purtis Creek State Park, including the 1.7-mile Beaver Slide Nature Path along the lakeshore, and most local RV parks like Cedar Creek Lake RV Park allow leashed pets too. Some hosts charge a small pet fee or cleaning add-on, which you'll see clearly before you book. Pro tip: message the host through the listing if you have a larger breed or more than one pet, so check-in is smooth and your pup hits the lake running.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/purtis-creekCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or lake house?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to enjoy your first RV trip. Many Gun Barrel City hosts offer RV delivery to local spots like Purtis Creek State Park or even a private lake house driveway. They will level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through everything from the propane to the awning so you can focus on the lake, not the logistics. Just filter by Delivery on RVezy and check each host's delivery radius and fee. Delivery is a game-changer if you are nervous about towing through Gun Barrel City's busy Main Street corridor on summer weekends.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038153594-Delivery-options-for-RV-rentalsHow do mileage policies work, and what is a typical day-trip range from Gun Barrel City?
Mileage is flexible and host-set, so you will see the daily allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) plus a per-mile rate for anything over, right on the listing. Some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is great for an RV road trip from Gun Barrel City. Real-world distances from town: Dallas is about 65 miles (just over an hour), Tyler State Park about 70 miles east, Athens and the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center about 20 miles south, and Waco about 110 miles southwest. If you are sticking to Cedar Creek Lake, a standard mileage package is plenty. For wider exploring, message the host about an unlimited-mileage upgrade.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038153454-Mileage-included-and-overage-feesWhere can I park or camp my RV near Gun Barrel City?
You have excellent options within a short drive. Purtis Creek State Park (about 15 minutes west in Eustace) has campsites with water and electric hookups and a 355-acre catch-and-release bass lake. Tyler State Park, about 70 miles east, offers full-hookup sites in a beautiful East Texas pine forest. Several private RV parks around Cedar Creek Lake also welcome RVs with full hookups and pull-through sites. These are among the best campgrounds near Gun Barrel City for RV camping. Texas State Parks open reservations 5 months ahead, which is the standard window for summer weekends.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/purtis-creekWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip to Gun Barrel City?
April, May, and October are the sweet spot. Spring brings highs in the mid-70s to mid-80s with wildflowers and prime bass fishing at Cedar Creek Lake. Fall delivers warm-but-not-brutal days, fewer crowds, and great lakeshore scenery. Summer (June through August) is hot, with average highs in the low to mid-90s and August often pushing past 95 degrees Fahrenheit, so you will want a rig with strong air conditioning and shaded campsites. Winters are mild, with January highs around 55 degrees Fahrenheit and lows near 35 degrees Fahrenheit, great for quiet fishing weekends. Book your RV camping in Gun Barrel City two to three months out for July 4th weekend, which draws large crowds to Cedar Creek Lake.
weather.gov/fwd/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Gun Barrel City?
Yes, and this is one of the easier places in Texas to learn. The terrain around Gun Barrel City is flat, the highways (State Highway 198, US-175) are wide, and the campgrounds at Cedar Creek Lake have generous pull-through sites. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering driving tips, holding tanks, propane, and the awning, so you are never tossed the keys and left guessing. You can also message hosts before booking with any first time renting an RV questions. If you are really nervous, request delivery from your host so the rig is already parked and leveled at your campground; your only job is to enjoy the lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every motorhome rental in Gun Barrel City booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after every trip. The town has retail stores and several propane refill stations along West Main Street, and Dallas-area service centers are about an hour north on US-175 if a bigger fix is needed. Save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the driveway, so help is one tap away whether you are at Purtis Creek or further afield.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV on a longer road trip from Gun Barrel City?
Yes, and the location is great for it. Popular RV road trips from Gun Barrel City include Dallas and Fort Worth (about 65 to 95 miles northwest), Tyler State Park and the East Texas pines (about 70 miles east), Waco and the Magnolia Silos (about 110 miles), Austin and the Hill Country (about 200 miles south), and Hot Springs, Arkansas (about 270 miles northeast). Cross-state travel within the US is generally allowed; just confirm any mileage cap with your host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. For a classic Texas loop, head south to Austin and return via Waco, an easy 5-day RV trip from Cedar Creek Lake with no mountain driving.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Budgeting is straightforward. Travel trailers do not burn fuel themselves (your tow vehicle does), Class C motorhomes around Gun Barrel City typically average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, and Class A coaches roughly 6 to 10 MPG. Texas gas prices are usually below the national average, with stations clustered along West Main Street and State Highway 198. For a 3-night Cedar Creek Lake RV trip with delivery, expect a modest fuel bill; for longer routes to Austin or Hot Springs, plan for more depending on current pump prices. Download a fuel-finder app before you leave, and consider filling up in Mabank or Athens rather than directly in Gun Barrel City to compare prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Cedar Creek Lake?
Plan ahead and you will get exactly what you want. Texas State Parks (including Purtis Creek and Tyler State Park) open reservations 5 months in advance, and the closer you get to July 4th or Memorial Day weekends, the faster the full-hookup sites disappear. For private parks around Cedar Creek Lake, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually fine, though summer weekends can fill earlier. Reserve through the official Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system online or by phone. If state parks are full, ask your RVezy host about private lakefront listings, since many Gun Barrel City owners include a parking spot at their lake house as part of the rental.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/reservationsWhat are local driving conditions like in and around Gun Barrel City?
Easy and forgiving, which makes Gun Barrel City a great place to rent an RV in Texas. The terrain is flat East Texas prairie, with no mountain grades, tunnels, or low clearance bridges to worry about. State Highway 198 (Main Street) gets busy on summer Saturdays as boaters head to the lake, so aim for an early-morning pickup or arrival. The Cedar Creek Lake bridge on Highway 334 has wide lanes and is fine for any RV. Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk on rural FM roads, and spring thunderstorms can bring strong wind gusts; pull off and wait them out if needed. Start your travel day early on summer weekends for the smoothest drive.
txdot.gov/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Gun Barrel City?
You will be well taken care of. Purtis Creek State Park offers campsites with water and electric hookups, hot showers, restrooms, a fish-cleaning station, and a dump station. Private RV parks around Cedar Creek Lake commonly provide full hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and pull-through sites. For dumping tanks or filling fresh water without staying overnight, many private parks offer day-use dump services for a small fee. Not all sites at Texas State Parks have sewer hookups, so plan for one mid-trip stop at the park's dump station if you are staying 4 or more nights at Purtis Creek.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/purtis-creek/fees-facilitiesWhat features will the RV itself have?
More than you would expect. Most Gun Barrel City listings include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, a queen or king bed plus convertible sleeping areas, climate control, and seatbelts for travel. Many include a generator, outdoor awning, TV, and Wi-Fi or hotspot capability. Family RV trips in Gun Barrel City are easy since Class C motorhomes and bunkhouse travel trailers typically sleep 6 to 8. Check each listing's photos and amenities list carefully; if you want specific gear like a bike rack, kayak rack, or grill, message the host. Many include add-ons free or for a small fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gun%20Barrel%20City%2C%20TexasWhat add-ons and pickup details should I know about?
Hosts offer plenty of conveniences. Popular add-ons for a campervan rental in Gun Barrel City and motorhome rentals include linens and towels packs, camp chairs and outdoor sets, propane refills, generator hours, kayaks or paddleboards (perfect for Cedar Creek Lake), and dump-and-clean service so you do not have to handle tanks yourself. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Gun Barrel City, Mabank, or Seven Points, or you can request delivery. Standard rental windows and exact pickup and return times are set by each host and shown on the listing. Ask the host about adding a stocked kitchen kit; many include cookware, coffee makers, and basics so one grocery run sets you up for the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gun%20Barrel%20City%2C%20TexasHow does the security deposit and payment work?
Simple and secure. When you rent an RV in Gun Barrel City through RVezy, payment is processed through the platform with a major credit card; no cash, no checks, no awkward handoffs. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after your trip assuming there is no damage or excess cleaning. Deposit amounts vary by host and rig. To avoid issues: document the RV with photos at pickup and return, follow the host's mileage and generator-hour limits, and return the rig at the agreed fuel and tank levels. Ask your host for a pickup checklist in your pre-trip message so you both start the trip on the same page.
