We had an amazing experience renting from Dakota! The RV was delivered early, which was a great surprise and really got us excited for the trip. When Dakota couldn’t make the delivery himself, he sent Aaron, who did an awesome job with setup and made everything easy. Both were professional and great to work with. I would definitely recommend renting from Dakota or Aaron! I will using them again in the future for sure.

The trailer was delivered on time and set up great. It was just like the pictures and Michael was very responsive with questions. A few things for the next renter, there is a Keurig so don’t forget the K cups, and if you get cold, bring an extra blanket. There were plenty of sheets but I didn’t notice any extra blankets. Great trailer and really nice renter 😊.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Johnson City, TX

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Johnson City, TX?

RV rental in Johnson City, TX is one of the most affordable ways to experience the Texas Hill Country, with travel trailers typically starting around $90 to $140 per night, Class C motorhomes around $175 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A rigs around $300 and up per night. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can find cheap RV rental Johnson City options if you travel midweek or outside spring wildflower season and the fall LBJ 100 weekend. Pro tip: filter by Delivery to skip tow-vehicle costs entirely, and book at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead if you are targeting Pedernales Falls weekends, when both rigs and campsites disappear fast.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Johnson City, Texas?

Good news: a regular Class C Texas driver's license (or your equivalent home-state or home-country license) is all you need to rent an RV in Johnson City. Texas does not require a commercial driver's license or special endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,001 pounds, which covers virtually every rig on RVezy. You will need to be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home auto association before flying in, pair it with your home license, and you are cleared to roll into the Hill Country.

Is RV rental in Johnson City covered by insurance or protection?

You can book with confidence: every RV rental in Johnson City, TX booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the level of coverage that fits your comfort during checkout (hosts do not pick this for you). It gives renters meaningful financial peace of mind whether you are parked at Pedernales Falls State Park or cruising US-281. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers on the booking screen so you know your deductible before pickup, then enjoy the Hill Country knowing the small stuff is handled.

What if my Johnson City RV trip plans change, can I cancel?

Yes, booking your Johnson City RV trip is low-risk. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy across the platform (hosts do not set their own), which includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in a rig without worry. Additional protections apply for qualifying situations, which matters in Hill Country flash-flood season. Because exact refund windows depend on how far out your trip is, check the cancellation details on your booking confirmation. Pro tip: book early to secure your dates around Wildflower Season or the Lights Spectacular festival, knowing you have flexibility if life shifts.

The sweet spot is March through May and again from late September through November, when Hill Country daytime highs sit in the 70s and 80s and nights cool into the 50s and 60s, perfect campfire weather. Spring brings the legendary Texas bluebonnets along US-290 and Willow City Loop, while fall delivers golden cypress along the Pedernales River. Summer (June through August) regularly hits the high 90s to around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so look for an RV with strong air conditioning and shaded sites. Winter is mild and a quiet, affordable time to visit, plus you can catch the Johnson City Lights Spectacular from late November through early January, when the courthouse square is wrapped in lights.

I have never rented an RV before, will I be comfortable driving in Johnson City?

You will be fine, Johnson City is one of the easiest places in Texas to start your first time renting an RV. Roads are wide, traffic is light, and the main routes (US-281 and US-290) are open highways with generous shoulders. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, water, propane, dump procedures and the awning, so you are never guessing. If even that feels like a lot, choose a host who offers delivery and setup so your only job is to relax. Pro tip: take a short practice loop on the rural back roads near Ranch Road 2766 before heading to your campground, it builds confidence fast.

What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate, that is all dispatch needs to send help out to you in the Hill Country.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Johnson City RV trip?

Fuel is one of the easier-to-budget expenses for your Johnson City RV trip. Texas gas prices typically run below the national average, and you will find affordable fuel along the US-281 and US-290 corridors as well as in nearby Fredericksburg. For a typical 4-night Hill Country loop covering 250 to 350 miles, plan roughly $90 to $220 in fuel. How far in advance should I book a campground near Johnson City?

Book early, especially for state parks. Pedernales Falls State Park reservations open 5 months ahead through Texas Parks and Wildlife, and weekends from March through May (bluebonnet season) and October through November can sell out within hours of opening. Private parks like Miller Creek RV Resort, Roadrunner RV Park and River's Edge Campground take direct online reservations and usually have more flexibility, but still book 4 to 8 weeks ahead for weekends. Weekdays and winter? You can often snag a site a few days out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the 5-month mark on the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation site, then book your RV on RVezy immediately after, your two scarcest resources locked in.
