The camper was absolutely perfect for our family of five! It was spotless, well-organized, and stocked with all the basic necessities, including toilet paper, soap, dishes, towels, and more. I’m a bit of a neat freak, so I really appreciated how clean and thoughtfully organized everything was. The hosts were wonderful to work with—communication was easy, and they were incredibly accommodating. They handled both the delivery and pickup of the camper, so the only thing our family had to focus on was having a great time. We had an amazing experience and would definitely rent from them again!

We had an amazing experience renting a camper from Catherine! From start to finish, she made the process so easy. The camper was spotless, fully stocked with everything we needed (and then some!), and it made our trip comfortable and stress-free. Catherine was incredibly responsive and always quick to answer any questions we had. It was obvious she put a lot of thought into making sure her guests had a great experience. If you’re looking to rent a camper, we highly recommend Catherine. We wouldn’t hesitate to rent from her again. Thank you for helping make our weekend such a wonderful trip!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in DeForest, WI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in DeForest, WI?
RV rental in DeForest, WI is one of the more affordable ways to explore south-central Wisconsin. On RVezy, most peer-to-peer rentals run roughly $90 to $200 per night for travel trailers and campervans, and $200 to $350 per night for larger Class A and Class C motorhomes. You save the most by booking mid-week, traveling in May or late September shoulder season around the Madison area, and choosing a travel trailer if you already own a tow-capable vehicle. Many DeForest hosts bundle linens, camp chairs, and kitchen kits at no extra charge. Pro tip: filter for a cheap RV rental DeForest option on RVezy and message hosts directly to ask about multi-night discounts, which are common for stays of five nights or more.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=DeForest,%20WisconsinWhat license do I need to rent an RV in DeForest, Wisconsin?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in DeForest, Wisconsin. The state does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, even for larger Class A coaches. To book on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country driver's license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly the booking process moves once your ID is confirmed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance or protection included when I rent in DeForest?
Every RV rental in DeForest booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you drive away. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind. You choose the level of coverage that fits your trip during checkout, not the host, so you stay in control. Pro tip: if it is your first time renting an RV in DeForest, selecting a higher-tier protection plan adds just a few dollars per night and lets you focus on enjoying Lake Mendota and Devil's Lake instead of worrying about a chipped windshield.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my DeForest RV rental?
You can book your DeForest RV trip with confidence because RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, not the individual host. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, so you are never locked in instantly. Depending on how far out your trip is and the circumstances, different refund levels may apply, and the full policy details are clearly displayed before you pay so there are no surprises. Pro tip: book a little earlier than you think you need to, take advantage of the grace period to lock in a great RV, and use the time to plan your stops in Madison, Baraboo, and the Wisconsin Dells.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a DeForest RV trip?
Absolutely, DeForest is a fantastic launching pad for a pet-friendly RV rental DeForest adventure. Many RVezy hosts in the area welcome dogs (and some cats), and you can filter listings using the Pet-Friendly toggle so you only see rigs that say yes upfront. Wisconsin State Parks like Devil's Lake and Mirror Lake allow leashed pets on most trails and in designated pet-friendly campsite loops, and the Lower Yahara River Trail just south of DeForest is a popular paved path for dog walks. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed, and ask if they provide a pet add-on like a portable kennel or bed. It's a small step that makes the whole trip smoother.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in DeForest?
Yes, RV delivery DeForest is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a 30-foot motorhome through I-39/90 traffic. Many DeForest hosts will deliver the RV directly to nearby campgrounds like Lake Farm County Park or Token Creek County Park, then set it up, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees typically range from $2 to $5 per mile round-trip, and some hosts include free delivery within a set radius. Pro tip: ask your host about a delivery-and-setup package for your first night so you can arrive, unpack, and start enjoying campfire time without any learning curve.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037880013-Delivery-optionsHow far can I travel on a DeForest RV trip and how does mileage work?
You have plenty of range from DeForest, and mileage policies on RVezy are flexible, with some hosts offering an RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer road trips. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles available at around $0.30 to $0.50 each. From DeForest you can reach Wisconsin Dells in about 45 miles, Devil's Lake State Park in roughly 50 miles, Door County in about 200 miles, the Apostle Islands in around 340 miles, and Chicago in about 150 miles. Pro tip: if you are planning an RV road trip from DeForest that loops through Door County or up to Bayfield, filter for hosts offering 200+ free miles per night or unlimited mileage to keep your budget predictable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=DeForest,%20WisconsinWhere are the best campgrounds near DeForest, WI?
You have great choices when it comes to RV camping DeForest. Top campgrounds near DeForest include Token Creek County Park just north of town with shaded sites and electric hookups, Lake Farm County Park on Lake Waubesa about 15 miles south with electric sites and lake access, Mendota County Park near Lake Mendota for day-use and shorter stays, and Madison Campground on the west side of Madison with full hookups and big-rig pull-throughs open seasonally. For a state park experience, Devil's Lake and Mirror Lake are within an hour's drive. Pro tip: Dane County parks fill up fast on summer weekends, so book through the county park reservation system as soon as your trip dates are confirmed.
parks-lwrd.countyofdane.com/park/CampingWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from DeForest?
The sweet spot for a DeForest RV trip is mid-May through mid-October, with late June, July, and August delivering the warmest weather (highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s°F) and the longest daylight for evenings around the campfire. September is a local favorite: daytime highs in the 60s to low 70s°F, far fewer mosquitoes, and the Baraboo Hills near Devil's Lake light up with fall color from late September into mid-October. Winters are genuinely cold, with January lows around 10°F and 43 inches of average annual snowfall, so most campgrounds close from late October through April. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season trip in early June or mid-September for the best mix of weather, availability, and lower nightly rates.
weather.gov/mkx/Climate_DataI've never rented an RV before. Is DeForest a good place to start?
DeForest is honestly one of the friendliest spots in the Midwest for first time renting an RV. The terrain is gently rolling, the interstates (I-39, I-90, and I-94 all converge nearby) are well-maintained and clearly signed, and you're never more than an hour from a full-service RV park if you need help. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, slide-outs, water systems, the generator, and dumping, and many offer delivery and setup so you skip driving entirely on day one. RVezy's 24/7 customer support is also a message away. Pro tip: choose a Class B campervan or a 20- to 25-foot Class C for your first trip and book two nights at Lantern DeForest RV Resort to practice hookups before heading north.
travelwisconsin.com/article/road-trips/road-trip-tipsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-39, a dead battery at Devil's Lake, or a propane question at 10 p.m. is handled with one phone call. Your host is typically a quick message away through the RVezy app, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Major service centers like Camping World and several independent RV repair shops operate within 20 miles of DeForest in the Madison area, so parts and help are close by. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and roadside assistance card at pickup so everything is on your phone if you ever need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take a DeForest RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Crossing state lines is normal, and DeForest is perfectly positioned for a multi-state motorhome rental DeForest adventure into Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, or Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Popular routes include Chicago (150 miles south on I-90), the Mississippi River Great River Road through La Crosse and into Minnesota, and the UP via Green Bay. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed on RVezy rentals depending on the specific host and protection plan, so message the listing directly to confirm before booking and bring your passport. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits. Pro tip: if Canada is on your list, ask the host in writing through the RVezy app so the approval is documented on your booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I expect from DeForest?
Plan your fuel budget around 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG) for Class A and Class C motorhomes, 14 to 20 MPG for Class B campervans, and roughly the towing-MPG of your truck (often 10 to 14 MPG) for travel trailers. Wisconsin gas prices typically sit close to the national average, and DeForest has convenient fuel stops right off I-39/90 at Kwik Trip and Pilot, both of which offer easy RV-friendly access. For a 5-day, 500-mile loop from DeForest to Devil's Lake and the Wisconsin Dells, budget roughly $120 to $250 in fuel. Pro tip: download the Kwik Trip app for fuel discounts and fill up in DeForest before heading north toward the Dells, where prices often climb a bit.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near DeForest?
For Wisconsin State Park System campgrounds like Devil's Lake, Mirror Lake, and Governor Dodge, book as early as you can: reservations open up to 11 months in advance through the official wisconsin.goingtocamp.com platform, and summer weekends at Devil's Lake can sell out within hours of opening. Dane County parks like Token Creek and Lake Farm open reservations on a rolling basis through the county system, and private parks like Lantern DeForest RV Resort and Madison Campground typically have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: lock in your campground first, then book your RVezy rental around those confirmed dates. For a July 4th or Labor Day trip, plan to reserve by January or February for the best site selection.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhat are driving conditions like around DeForest?
Driving an RV around DeForest is refreshingly easy. The town sits at the intersection of I-39, I-90, and I-94, with wide lanes, gentle grades, and well-marked exits, so even a 30-foot motorhome handles comfortably. Watch for occasional summer thunderstorms with strong crosswinds (the open farmland around DeForest can get gusty), and in spring and fall be alert for deer near dawn and dusk along rural County Roads V and CV. Downtown Madison has a few low-clearance underpasses near the isthmus, so stick to the Beltline (US 12/18) if you're driving through. Winter brings snow and ice from late November through March. Pro tip: check the Wisconsin 511 travel info site before any longer drive for real-time road conditions and construction alerts.
511wi.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near DeForest?
Campgrounds near DeForest range from full-hookup resorts to rustic state park loops, so you can match the experience to your comfort level. Lantern DeForest RV Resort and Madison Campground offer full water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric, WiFi, pools, and laundry. Token Creek County Park provides 30-amp electric-only sites with a centralized dump station and potable water fill, and Devil's Lake State Park has electric and non-electric sites, modern shower buildings, and a dump station at each campground entrance. Most Wisconsin State Park dump stations are open mid-May through mid-October. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank at the campground entrance before you pull into your site, and confirm whether your site is 30-amp or 50-amp so you bring the right adapter (many DeForest hosts include both).
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/camping/rulesWhat equipment and amenities come with a DeForest RV rental?
DeForest RV rentals on RVezy come ready to roll. Expect a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware; a bathroom with toilet and shower in most Class B, Class C, and Class A units; comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 people depending on size; air conditioning and a furnace; and seatbelts for every passenger required by law while driving. Most rigs include a TV, many have WiFi or cellular boosters, and onboard generators are common in Class A and Class C units. A campervan rental DeForest will be more compact but still includes a kitchenette and sleeping setup. Pro tip: review each listing's amenity checklist carefully and message the host about specifics like bedding, towels, and a coffee maker so you only pack what is truly missing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=DeForest,%20WisconsinWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a DeForest RV rental?
DeForest hosts offer a great mix of add-ons that turn a good trip into a great one. Common options include camp chairs and tables ($5 to $15/trip), bedding and linen packages ($25 to $50/trip), generator hours for Class A/C rigs (often $3 to $5 per hour beyond the included amount), bike racks, kayak hauling, kid-friendly kits, and pet packages. Pickup and drop-off usually happens at the host's home in DeForest or nearby Windsor and Sun Prairie, and many hosts offer delivery to campgrounds within 20 to 50 miles. Mileage policies vary, so check the listing for free miles per night. Pro tip: book your add-ons at the same time as your reservation so the host can have everything cleaned, packed, and ready when you arrive.
travelwisconsin.com/article/road-trips/road-trip-tipsHow does payment and the security deposit work for a DeForest RV rental?
Payment for your rent an RV in DeForest booking is handled securely through the RVezy platform with all major credit cards, so you never hand cash to a host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class, and is released back to your card after the host confirms the RV was returned clean, undamaged, and with full fuel and propane. To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walkaround with the host at pickup, take photos of any existing scratches or stains, dump the tanks before return, and refuel within a few miles of the drop-off location. Pro tip: ask the host for their preferred dump and fuel stations near DeForest so the return goes quickly and your deposit lands back on your card within a few business days.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight near DeForest besides a campground?
You have solid options for where to park an RV in DeForest beyond traditional campgrounds. Several Walmart locations in the greater Madison area, including the Sun Prairie store about 10 miles away, often permit free overnight RV parking with a quick courtesy call to the manager. Cabela's in Sun Prairie is another commonly used RV-friendly overnight stop. For a more scenic option, Wisconsin State Parks offer reservable sites at places like Devil's Lake (about 50 miles northwest) and Mirror Lake (about 55 miles north). Local ordinances in residential DeForest neighborhoods restrict street parking of RVs overnight, so stick to commercial lots, campgrounds, or your host's driveway. Pro tip: always call ahead to confirm overnight policies, since individual store managers have the final say.
