The Central Coast climate around Amesti is mild year-round, but campground availability shifts noticeably by season. Summer is the peak window: warm, dry, and heavily booked, with coastal state-park sites at Sunset State Beach typically filling the moment they open on the six-month rolling reservation window. Expect morning fog along the coast even in July and August, which usually burns off by midday. Spring brings green hills, wildflowers, and lighter crowds, though weekends near holidays still book up. Fall is often the best stretch of clear, warm weather on this coast, with September commonly the warmest month and weekday availability improving after Labor Day. Winter is the wet season, with most rain falling between November and March. Pinto Lake RV Park and Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA Holiday operate year-round, while the Dunes and Pine Hollow loops at Sunset State Beach close from October through mid-March, leaving only the South Camp and group camp open in winter.

Sites differ sharply by campground. Pinto Lake RV Park has 28 grass sites with full hookups arranged in two rows beside the lake, accepts rigs up to 45 feet, and has a quiet, adults-leaning atmosphere with a posted nighttime noise curfew and gated entry. Sunset State Beach has roughly 90 sites split across South Camp, Pine Hollow, and Dunes, with picnic tables, fire rings, and food lockers at each site but no hookups; RVs and trailers are capped at 31 feet. Dogs are not allowed on the beach itself. Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA Holiday is the most amenity-heavy option, with a pool, hot tub, playgrounds, jumping pillow, bike rentals, and a camp store. Cell service is limited at the state-park sites.
