Campgrounds and RV parks near Broadmoor, CA

San Francisco landmarks are the main draw: the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Park, and the Presidio are all within a short drive or BART ride. Day trips south on Highway 1 reach Pacifica's surf beaches, the Mavericks break off Pillar Point Harbor, and the long stretch of sand at Half Moon Bay State Beach. The paved Coastside Trail runs along the bluffs at Half Moon Bay and is well suited to families on bikes. Whale watching, pier fishing, and tide pooling are seasonal options along the coast. Inland, Sweeney Ridge and San Bruno Mountain State Park offer hiking with views back across the bay. Cycling, kayaking, and walking the Embarcadero are easy add-ons on a city day.

The coastal Bay Area has a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and dry, mild summers. Rainfall concentrates from November through March, with December and February typically the wettest months. Winter storms can bring heavy rain and wind to exposed coastal sites, and occasional king tides cause beach access closures. Cliff erosion has been a long-running issue along the Pacifica coastline and has affected site counts at some bluff-top parks. Spring brings wildflowers on coastal headlands and gradually drier weather, though April and May can still see passing systems. Summer is the busiest stretch for campgrounds, but the coastal microclimate runs cool: thick marine fog often clamps down on Pacifica and Half Moon Bay through June and July, while inland areas warm up. Fall is generally the warmest and clearest season locally, with September and October offering the best chance of sunny coastal days. Year-round operation is the norm along this stretch of coast, so closures are uncommon outside of storm damage.

Coastal Bay Area campgrounds run cooler and windier than inland California, even in summer. Pack layers, a windbreak, and warm sleeping gear regardless of the forecast. Marine fog often rolls in by late afternoon and can persist through morning. Site layouts at urban parks tend to be tight, paved, and close to neighbors, with full hookups offsetting the lack of space. State park sites at Francis Beach offer ocean views, with a dump station and potable water on site. Coin-operated showers are common at state campgrounds. Cell coverage is generally strong throughout the area. Dogs are typically allowed in campgrounds on leash but are restricted from most state beaches. Swimming is not advised on the open coast due to cold water and rip currents.
