Campgrounds and RV parks near Buena Vista, CA

Fishing drives most trips here. Lake Amador is stocked with trout and also holds bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill. Pardee Reservoir is known for rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and catfish, and a full-service marina, fishing dock, and 10-lane launch ramp support anglers. Lake Camanche is best known for bass fishing but also draws trout anglers, with marinas on both the North and South Shores. Pardee restricts personal watercraft, water skiing, and lake swimming because it supplies drinking water; two on-site swimming pools serve campers instead. Lake Camanche allows shoreline swimming and rents boats from its marinas. Hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife viewing are easy at all three lakes, with deer and wild turkeys common across the oak woodlands.

The Sierra foothills climate sets a clear rhythm. Late winter through late spring is the comfort window: mild temperatures, green hills, full lakes after winter rainfall, and wildflowers blooming across the oak woodlands. Summer is hot and dry, with daytime highs frequently in the 90s and occasional spikes past 100, so shade, hookups for air conditioning, and lake access matter more than scenery. Fall brings cooler nights, lower crowds, and steady fishing once water temperatures drop. Pardee Reservoir runs a fixed season, typically opening in mid-February and closing in early November; the winter shutdown is timed to protect migratory birds under EBMUD's wildlife enhancement program. Lake Camanche stays open year-round, as does Lake Amador. Alcohol is prohibited throughout Lake Camanche park from May 1 through September 30. Wildfire risk peaks from midsummer into fall, so check for active fire restrictions before arrival since the western Sierra periodically tightens campfire rules. EBMUD has also kept boat launches at Pardee and Camanche closed in response to invasive golden mussels, so confirm boating status before towing a trailer.

Sites are oak-shaded at most campgrounds in this corridor, with picnic tables, fire rings, and water available. Full-hookup RV sites exist at all three lakes. Lake Camanche does not permit tent-only use of an RV site, though a tent can share an RV site as a second setup. Flush restrooms, hot showers, and laundry facilities are available at Pardee and Lake Camanche. Cell coverage is patchy across the foothills, so download maps before arrival. Pardee enforces a strict no-body-contact rule on the lake, with two pools provided for swimming. EBMUD requires boat inspections, banding, and quarantine at Camanche, and boat launches at both EBMUD reservoirs have faced ongoing closures due to invasive golden mussels; vehicle-only camping is unaffected.
