Camanche Village RV camping overview
Camanche Village sits in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Amador County, California, on the north side of Camanche Reservoir. It is a census-designated place at an elevation of 276 feet. The area is built around the reservoir itself, with 54 miles of shoreline and 7,700 surface acres of water for outdoor recreation.
Most RV camping is concentrated on the lake. Lake Camanche - North - EBMUD and Lake Camanche North Shore handle tent and self-contained RV sites on the Amador County side, while Miners Camps RV Park and Monument RV Park sit on the Calaveras County side near Wallace and Valley Springs with full-hookup options. Lake Comanche is the broader EBMUD recreation area that ties these properties together. Tent and RV sites are available year-round at both North and South Shores, with RV hookup sites concentrated at South Shore, and self-contained RVs are permitted at North Shore. Sacramento is roughly an hour west, and Highway 88 and the Amador and Calaveras Gold Country towns are within a short drive.
Things to do near Camanche Village
The reservoir is the main draw. Visitors fish, swim, boat from on-site launches, and hike or horseback ride on miles of trails. Trout, bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill are stocked and caught year-round. The lake supports rental boating, kayaking, swimming, and equestrian camping, with the China Gulch trail at North Shore covering about 10 miles and the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail accessible from South Shore. All trailered vessels must pass a mandatory EBMUD inspection and banding before launch. Off-water options include day trips to Jackson, Sutter Creek, and Amador wine country to the north, and to Angels Camp and Calaveras Big Trees State Park to the south. Marina general stores at both shores stock basic groceries and camping supplies.

The foothills follow a Mediterranean pattern: hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Summer is peak season for swimming, boating, and family camping, with long sunny days and very little rain. Fire restrictions tighten in summer, and posted alcohol rules are strict: no alcohol is permitted anywhere in the park from May 1 through September 30.
Spring brings green hills, wildflowers, and the highest reservoir levels, but it also carries the tail end of the wet season. Fall cools quickly after Labor Day and is a strong shoulder season for fishing and quieter sites. Winter stays open, with tent and RV sites available year-round at both North and South Shores. Expect frosty mornings, occasional storms, and far lower demand. Snow at lake elevation is rare, but Highway 88 into the higher Sierra can require chains during winter storms.

The RV is clean, cute, and cozy and has everything you need to have a perfect trip. We had an amazing trip with lots of memories and will definitely rent from them again for our next RV adventure.

Couldn’t have asked for a better host! This was my family’s first time in a camper trailer and Patrick was able to answer all of my questions patiently. He delivered the camper right at check in and had the AC running for us which made for a very welcoming introduction to Jellystone park. I highly recommend Patrick for anyone wanting a clean and cozy rv!

How to book campgrounds near Camanche Village
Lake Camanche properties are managed by EBMUD and operated by Camanche Recreation Company rather than ReserveCalifornia. Bookings for North Shore, South Shore including Monument RV Park, and Miners Camps RV Park go through the Lake Camanche reservation system. Reservations can be made by calling the reservation line at (866) 763-5121, or online at golakecamanche.com for both shores. Reservations may be booked up to one year in advance from the planned departure date, and holiday weekends fill quickly. When reserving an RV site, confirm hookup type: the RV parks take full hookups only, and no tent-only camping is allowed in those loops. Camping at Camanche is limited to no more than 14 days within a 30-day period.
What to expect on-site
Expect open, oak-studded foothill terrain with direct lake access from many loops. Tent sites and RV hookup sites with water connections are available, and many sites sit close to the lakeshore with open water views. Campground amenities include restrooms, hot showers, picnic tables, playgrounds, and a dump station for RV travelers. Full hookups, including 30 and 50 amp service, are concentrated in the South Shore RV parks. Miners Camps RV Park sits above the main campground loops on a hillside, within a short walk of basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, and has no fire rings inside the park itself. Rangers enforce site assignments, fire-ring rules, and the seasonal alcohol ban. Cell coverage is variable, and shade depends on the specific loop, so request shaded sites at booking.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Camanche Village, CA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Camanche Village, CA?
RV rental in Camanche Village is an affordable way to experience Lake Camanche and the Mother Lode wine country. On RVezy, you can expect to pay roughly $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers, $150 to $250 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $350 for larger Class A coaches, with hosts setting their own nightly rates and mileage allowances. To find a cheap RV rental in Camanche Village, travel midweek, book in shoulder months like March, April and October, and filter for travel trailers the host can deliver to a Lake Camanche RV site. Pro tip: bundling delivery and setup often costs less than the gas you would burn towing a trailer yourself.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camanche%20Village%2C%20CaliforniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Camanche Village?
Good news: for the vast majority of RVs you'll find on RVezy near Camanche Village, your regular Class C driver's license is all you need. California only requires a Noncommercial Class B license for motorhomes longer than 40 feet, and a Noncommercial Class A for trailers over 10,000 lbs GVWR, which is well beyond what most renters book. You'll need to be 25 or older and upload your license through RVezy so we can verify your ID before pickup. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home auto club before flying in, pair it with your home license, and you're cleared to roll out toward Lake Camanche.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook-2011/license-classes-and-requirements/What protection comes with my Camanche Village RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head into the Sierra foothills with peace of mind. You choose your level of protection at checkout (not the host), so you can match the coverage to your comfort level, and the plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens on the way to Lake Camanche or down Highway 88. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully when booking, especially if you are towing a fifth wheel on hilly Calaveras County back roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Camanche Village RV trip?
Plans change, and RVezy is built to handle that. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy that applies to every booking, and it includes a grace period after you book where you can get your money back in full. Because cancellation terms can depend on how far out your trip is and other factors, the full details live in the RVezy Help Center rather than on individual listings. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help you with a refund or travel credit so your trip stays on track. Pro tip: book early to lock in your favorite rig for a peak summer Lake Camanche weekend, knowing you have a built-in window to change your mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Camanche Village RV rental?
Absolutely. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Camanche Village, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see rigs whose hosts welcome four-legged guests (some charge a small pet fee or extra cleaning, shown clearly at checkout). Lake Camanche Recreation allows leashed dogs in most campgrounds and on its trails, and nearby New Hogan Lake operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is also dog-friendly. Pro tip: bring a long lead and a collapsible water bowl, the oak-shaded shoreline at North Shore Campground is a favorite spot for a sunset walk with the pup.
golakecamanche.com/Can the RV be delivered to Lake Camanche or my driveway?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to do your first RV trip. Many RVezy hosts in the Camanche Village, Ione, Valley Springs and Lodi area offer RV delivery directly to Lake Camanche's North Shore or South Shore RV sites, or to your driveway if you live nearby. The host drives the RV, levels it, connects the 30/50 amp power and water, and walks you through every system so you never have to back a trailer yourself. Filter for Delivery on the search page, then message the host with your campsite number to confirm distance and any delivery fee. Pro tip: full hookup sites at South Shore accommodate large rigs, so delivery works for almost any size.
golakecamanche.com/How many miles per day do I get, and how far can I realistically travel?
Most hosts in the Camanche Village area include between 100 and 150 free miles per night, and some list RVs with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for a longer Gold Country road trip. Each listing shows the daily mileage allowance and any per-mile overage fee right on the page, so there are no surprises. From Camanche Village you are about 50 miles to Sacramento, 35 miles to Lodi wine country, 110 miles to Yosemite's Big Oak Flat entrance via Highway 120, 120 miles to South Lake Tahoe, and 110 miles to San Francisco. Pro tip: if you are planning a multi-stop loop, message hosts before booking and ask about an unlimited mileage upgrade.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camanche%20Village%2C%20CaliforniaWhere should I camp with my RV near Camanche Village?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping near Camanche Village. Lake Camanche South Shore offers full-hookup RV sites with 30/50 amp power right near the lake, while North Shore offers a mix of hookup and self-contained sites with immediate lake access. Just down the road, New Hogan Lake's Acorn Campground (run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) and Pardee Recreation Area are excellent alternatives. Pro tip: Lake Camanche has seasonal alcohol restrictions during the busy summer months, so plan summer toasts for off-site wineries in nearby Plymouth or Murphys.
golakecamanche.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip to Camanche Village?
Camanche Village sits in California's Sierra foothills at roughly 235 feet of elevation, so it is a four-season destination, but spring and fall are the sweet spot. April through early June brings wildflowers and daytime highs in the 70s to mid-80s, with lake temperatures climbing steadily. Summers are hot and dry with highs often 90 to 100°F, so plan early morning hikes and afternoon swims. September and October cool back into the 70s and 80s with grape harvest underway in nearby Lodi and Amador wineries. Winters are mild with highs in the upper 50s, lows in the 40s, and occasional rain, making it a quiet, budget-friendly Camanche Village RV trip season.
weather.gov/sto/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be just fine, and Camanche Village is actually one of the friendlier places in California to learn. First time renting an RV? Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, propane, slide-outs and the dump station, so you leave knowing how everything works. The roads around Camanche, like Camanche Parkway and Highway 12, are wide two-lane country highways with gentle curves rather than the white-knuckle mountain passes you'll find closer to Tahoe. Choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first trip, ask for delivery if you'd rather skip towing entirely, and you can always text your host with questions during the trip.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook-2011/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Camanche Parkway, a dead battery at a South Shore RV site, or a tow off Highway 88 is one phone call away. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip to help coordinate with the host and get you back on the road. Pro tip: before leaving the host's driveway, snap a photo of the roadside assistance number and the RV's VIN, and save the host's cell number, that way you are covered even in spots with patchy signal between Valley Springs and Mokelumne Hill.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV out of state or across the border?
Yes, an RV road trip from Camanche Village can absolutely cross state lines. Most hosts welcome trips into Nevada (Reno is about 130 miles via Highway 88 and US-50) and Oregon, and many are open to longer loops through Utah or Arizona, just confirm with the host through the listing message before you book. Travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts depending on their insurance, so ask first. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection plan and insurance do not extend across that border. Pro tip: classic multi-state loops from here include Lake Tahoe, Crater Lake in Oregon, and the Eastern Sierra via Highway 395.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Camanche Village RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your budget, so it's worth planning ahead. California gas prices average around $5.50 to $6 per gallon for regular as of 2026, which is among the highest in the country. A Class C motorhome averages 10 to 13 MPG, a Class A around 6 to 8 MPG, and a Class B campervan rental Camanche Village a more wallet-friendly 15 to 18 MPG. For a typical 3-day weekend driving 300 miles in a Class C, expect to spend roughly $150 to $180 on fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Lodi or Galt on Highway 99 before climbing into Calaveras County, where rural stations near Valley Springs often run $0.30 to $0.50 higher per gallon.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/californias-gasoline-pricesHow far ahead should I book a campground near Lake Camanche?
For Lake Camanche specifically, book full-hookup RV sites at South Shore or North Shore three to six months ahead for summer weekends and major holidays like Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day, since these sell out fast. Reservations for Lake Camanche Recreation are made directly through golakecamanche.com. For nearby New Hogan Lake's Acorn Campground (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), use Recreation.gov, where the booking window opens six months in advance. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) often have last-minute openings even in July, perfect if you are booking a spontaneous motorhome rental in Camanche Village.
recreation.gov/What are the driving conditions like around Camanche Village?
Driving in and around Camanche Village is refreshingly mellow compared to the Bay Area or the Tahoe corridor. Highway 12, Camanche Parkway and Highway 88 are two-lane rural roads with gentle grades, wide shoulders and minimal traffic outside summer weekends. There are no tight mountain passes or low-clearance tunnels until you climb Highway 88 toward Kirkwood. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, occasional cattle crossings on side roads, and afternoon summer thunderstorms in July and August. Winter brings rain and morning fog (especially the Central Valley tule fog), but snow at Camanche Village's 200-foot elevation is extremely rare. Pro tip: use Caltrans QuickMap to check Highway 88 conditions before any trip toward Jackson or the high country.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around Camanche Village?
Local campgrounds are well set up for a comfortable RV stay. Lake Camanche South Shore offers full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water and sewer), hot showers, laundry, a marina store and a dump station on-site. North Shore has a mix of hookup and self-contained sites with potable water faucets and hot showers, plus seasonal services. New Hogan Lake's Acorn Campground has electric hookups, potable water fill stations and a dump station. Pro tip: top off fresh water before heading to any of the primitive shoreline sites at Lake Camanche, and remember the park enforces seasonal alcohol restrictions during the summer months.
golakecamanche.com/What's included inside the RV itself?
You will be impressed by how well-equipped these rigs are. Most RVezy rentals in the Camanche Village area come fully outfitted with sleeping for 4 to 8 people, a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, cookware and dishes), a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (roof AC and furnace), a dinette that converts to a bed, and seatbelts for travel passengers. Many hosts also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, an outdoor awning with chairs, and a generator or solar setup. Wifi is usually BYO via a phone hotspot since Lake Camanche has spotty signal. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and add-ons like generator if you want to camp at North Shore's self-contained sites with the AC running on hot afternoons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camanche%20Village%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I expect?
Hosts in the Camanche Village area offer a wide range of optional add-ons that make life easier. Common extras include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, generators, portable propane firepits, bike racks, and pet packages, all priced individually on each listing. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Ione, Valley Springs, Lodi or Galt, though many offer delivery to Lake Camanche or your driveway for a flat fee or per-mile rate. Mileage policies, generator hours and pet rules are clearly displayed on each listing. Pro tip: ask the host about a stocked starter kit, many will throw in coffee, paper towels and basics so you do not have to grocery shop the second you arrive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camanche%20Village%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Camanche Village, you pay through RVezy's platform using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash, which keeps the trip protected. The total includes the nightly rate, any add-ons you select, the protection plan you choose, and applicable taxes, all shown clearly before you confirm. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before the trip start and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and dropoff with the host, this simple habit prevents the vast majority of deposit disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle Camanche Village summer heat in an RV?
The foothills get hot, but the right rig and a few smart moves keep you cool. Summer highs in Camanche Village often hit 90 to 100°F from late June through August, with low humidity and warm evenings. Look for a Camanche Village RV trip listing with a rooftop air conditioner (most have one, larger rigs have two) and ask the host about generator hours so you can run AC at sites without hookups. Park with the awning side facing west to shade the slide-out, swim in the lake from mid-morning on, and tackle hikes early. Pro tip: shoulder seasons (April to May and September to October) bring 80°F days, cooler nights and the friendliest pricing on RV rental in California.
