Campgrounds and RV parks near Herald, CA

Water is the main draw. The California Delta offers more than 1,000 miles of waterways, and New Hope Landing RV Park and Marina has a launch ramp for boats and personal watercraft heading onto the Mokelumne. Lake Camanche has 54 miles of shoreline and 7,700 surface acres of water for boating, swimming, and fishing. The reservoir is known for bass and trout fishing, and the lake features miles of trails for hiking, lake access for rental boating, kayaking, as well as equestrian trails and equestrian camping. On land, Lodi wine country is a short drive west, with tasting rooms specializing in old-vine Zinfandel. Birders head to the Cosumnes River Preserve north of Thornton for waterfowl viewing in fall and winter.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel around Herald. March through May brings green hills, wildflowers, and mild daytime temperatures, with reservoir levels typically at their highest after winter rains. October and November cool off quickly and are prime months for Delta fishing and wine harvest visits. Summer is hot and dry. The hottest month is July, with an average high near 93°F and average low around 60°F, and daytime highs in the valley regularly push past 100, so shaded sites, hookups with reliable power for air conditioning, and lake access become priorities. Lake Camanche and the Delta both see peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and weekend sites fill weeks in advance. Winters are cool and wet but rarely freezing. Lodi has a mild Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters, with an average of around 22 inches of rainfall annually. Most parks in this area stay open year-round, though river levels and tule fog can affect Delta travel from December through February.

Expect a mix of resort-style RV parks and rustic reservoir camping. Flag City RV Resort is geared to larger rigs, with paved roads, full hookups, and on-site amenities including a pool, laundry, and a clubhouse. New Hope Landing RV Park and Marina is simpler, focused on water access, and best suited to rigs that want to fish or boat from the property. Lake Camanche has more variation. Tent and RV sites are available year-round at both North and South Shores with RV hook-up sites at South Shore only, and self-contained RVs may camp at North Shore. No alcohol is permitted anywhere in the park from May 1 through September 30. Camping at Camanche is limited to no more than 14 days within a 30 day period. Plan ahead, bring shade and bug repellent in summer, and verify pet rules at each property.
