Campgrounds and RV parks near June Lake, CA

Fishing drives much of the local activity: rainbow, brown, and stocked Alpers trout populate June, Gull, Silver, Grant, and Lundy lakes, with boat ramps and rentals on most. Hikers reach the Ansel Adams Wilderness from trailheads at Silver Lake (Rush Creek), Yost Lake, and Parker Lake. Mono Lake's South Tufa area and the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center are a short drive north. When Tioga Pass is open, Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake, and Olmsted Point are within an hour, putting Yosemite's high country in day-trip range. June Mountain Ski Area runs lifts in winter for skiers and snowboarders, and the village offers paddleboard rentals, a brewery, and small markets. Mammoth Lakes adds hot springs, mountain biking, and a gondola.

Summer is the practical RV season. Forest Service campgrounds along the June Lake Loop generally open in late April or May and close in October, depending on snowpack. July and August bring the busiest weekends, warm days, and cool nights at elevation. Trout opener in late April and the fall color window in late September through mid-October are secondary peaks worth booking ahead for. Winter changes access significantly. The north junction of State Route 158 with U.S. 395 closes with snow, typically from mid-December through mid-April, leaving the loop accessible only from the south entrance near June Lake village. Tioga Pass (State Route 120 west) closes for the winter season once snow arrives and usually does not reopen until late May or June, cutting off the direct route to Yosemite. Mammoth Mountain RV Park stays open year-round and is the most reliable winter base. Spring brings runoff, muddy trails, and lingering snow on higher routes; many high-country trailheads do not melt out until July.

Elevations across the area run from about 6,400 feet at Mono Lake to 8,600 feet at Tuolumne Meadows, so nights stay cool even in midsummer and afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August. This is active bear country: hard-sided food storage or provided bear lockers are required at every Forest Service and Park Service campground, and food cannot be left in tents or on picnic tables. Cell coverage is patchy on the loop and absent inside much of Yosemite. Many Forest Service sites have vault or flush toilets and potable water but no hookups; full hookups are limited to the private RV parks listed. Generator hours are restricted. RV length limits vary by site, with Tuolumne Meadows capped around 35 feet and many forest sites shorter.
