Campgrounds near Lexington Hills
Lexington Hills sits in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, on the ridge between Silicon Valley and the Monterey Bay coast. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of redwood state parks, the San Lorenzo Valley, and the beaches around Santa Cruz. Campgrounds in the area cluster along Highway 9 and Highway 17, mostly in the towns of Felton, Ben Lomond, and Scotts Valley, roughly fifteen to thirty minutes south of Lexington Hills.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Santa Cruz Ranch RV Resort, Redwood Resort RV Park and Campground, Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort, and Cotillion Gardens RV Park sit along the San Lorenzo River corridor and typically offer hookups for larger rigs. For a public-land experience, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park Campground sits near Felton off Graham Hill Road, set in a shady pine and oak forest a short drive from the park's old-growth redwood grove. Together these options cover the range from full-service rigs to smaller motorhomes and trailers needing a quieter, forested setting.
Things to do near Lexington Hills
Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is best known for its 40-acre grove of old-growth redwoods and the rare Santa Cruz Sandhills habitat in its upper elevations. The Redwood Grove Loop Trail is a short, mostly level walk through ancient trees and is a good stop for families. The park offers roughly 20 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy walks to climbs up to the Observation Deck at 805 feet. The San Lorenzo River runs through the valley and offers summer swimming holes and catch-and-release steelhead fishing in season.
Roaring Camp Railroad in Felton runs steam-train excursions through the redwoods and down to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Coastal day trips to Natural Bridges State Beach, the Santa Cruz Wharf, and West Cliff Drive are all under thirty minutes from most area campgrounds. Mountain bikers head to the Soquel Demonstration State Forest east of Highway 17.

The Santa Cruz Mountains have a Mediterranean climate with wet winters and dry summers. Summer is the peak season for RV travel: days are warm and rain-free, redwood canyons stay cool under the canopy, and coastal fog often burns off by midday. Reservations at state-park and private campgrounds in the area fill weeks to months ahead between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and weekends book first.
Spring brings green hillsides, wildflowers, and steadier river flows, though showers still pass through into May. Fall is often the quietest stretch with warm afternoons, cool nights, and easier last-minute booking after Labor Day. Winter is the wettest season; the San Lorenzo Valley sees flood watches and occasional road closures on Highway 9 and Highway 17 during atmospheric river events. Henry Cowell's campground typically operates from spring through late fall, and some private parks reduce operations or limit tent sites in winter. Fire restrictions are common from late summer into fall; confirm current rules before arrival.

How to book campgrounds near Lexington Hills
Public and private campgrounds in the area use different systems, so plan for both. Reservations for Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park Campground are made through ReserveCalifornia, which features campsite maps showing each site in relation to parking, restrooms, and other facilities. California State Parks releases sites on a six-month rolling window, so summer weekends should be targeted as soon as the window opens. Maximum trailer length is 31 feet and maximum motorhome length is 35 feet, and each site has a fire ring, picnic table, and bear-proof food locker, with flush restrooms, coin-operated hot showers, and potable drinking water throughout.
Private parks including Santa Cruz Ranch RV Resort, Redwood Resort RV Park and Campground, Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort, and Cotillion Gardens RV Park book directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends often require minimum-night stays.
What to expect on site
Expect narrow, winding mountain roads on the approach to most campgrounds. Highway 9 between Santa Cruz and Boulder Creek has tight turns and low tree branches that can challenge taller rigs; the Highway 17 approach via Mount Hermon Road is the easiest route for larger motorhomes. Cell service is spotty in the redwood canyons, so download maps and confirmation emails before leaving the freeway.
Private parks along the San Lorenzo River, including Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort and Cotillion Gardens RV Park, typically offer full hookups, laundry, and pull-through sites. At Henry Cowell, picnic tables and fire rings are available at each campsite and flush toilets and coin-operated showers are a short distance away, with quarters required for the showers. Bear lockers are standard, and food should be stored out of vehicles overnight.

You can ask questions through RVezy messages before booking, and 24/7 roadside assistance is just a phone call away if anything feels off on the road. For your first trip, consider a smaller Class B campervan rental Lexington Hills or a 22-foot Class C, they drive much like a large van. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something breaks down during my Lexington Hills RV trip?
You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lexington Hills RV rental on a road trip out of state or to Canada?
Yes, you can turn your Lexington Hills RV rental into a multi-state adventure. Popular RV road trip from Lexington Hills routes include Highway 1 down toward San Diego (about 480 miles), the Pacific Northwest through Oregon to Seattle (about 820 miles), Las Vegas and Zion (about 570 to 700 miles), and even a cross-border run to British Columbia. Travel to Canada is allowed with many hosts as long as you confirm it during booking so insurance coverage can be verified. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend south of the border. Tip: message the host with your full itinerary before booking, it is a quick conversation that unlocks the whole West Coast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on my Lexington Hills RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your RV budget, but it is manageable with a little planning. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A rigs run 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers do not burn fuel themselves, but expect your tow vehicle's MPG to drop by 30 to 40 percent. Bay Area gas typically runs higher than the national average, so filling up in Gilroy or Morgan Hill is often cheaper than Los Gatos. For a 4-day, 400-mile trip in a Class C, budget around $200 to $280 for fuel. Tip: apps like GasBuddy help you spot the best prices, and many RVs accept regular unleaded.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Lexington Hills?
Book early. Bay Area campgrounds are some of the most competitive in California. Santa Clara County Parks (Sanborn, Mount Madonna, Uvas Canyon) take reservations through gooutsideandplay.org, and weekend summer sites can fill the moment they are released. California State Parks like New Brighton, Sunset, and Big Basin use ReserveCalifornia.com and open bookings 6 months in advance to the day, so set a calendar reminder for 8 a.m. that morning. For July and August stays, aim to book in January or February. Midweek dates and November through February openings are much easier to grab. Tip: if you strike out on a campground, check back two weeks before your trip, cancellations happen often.
reservecalifornia.com/What are driving conditions like around Lexington Hills?
Driving near Lexington Hills is straightforward once you know the local quirks. Highway 17, which runs right past Lexington Reservoir between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz, is a winding 4-lane mountain route, beautiful, but slow down and avoid Friday afternoon and Sunday evening when beach traffic backs up for miles. Highway 101 and Interstate 280 through San Jose handle big rigs easily but get congested at rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.). Watch for low-clearance parking garages in downtown Los Gatos and San Jose, most RVs exceed 10 feet tall. Wildfire season typically runs late summer through fall, check CalFire alerts. Tip: leave early or after 7 p.m. for any Santa Cruz run and you will save significant time.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities do local campgrounds near Lexington Hills offer?
Campgrounds around Lexington Hills range from full-hookup parks to back-to-basics redwood sites. Sanborn and Mount Madonna County Parks offer RV sites with some hookups plus on-site dump stations. Uvas Canyon is more rustic, while coastal favorites like New Brighton State Beach typically have limited hookups, so plan to dump on the way out. Most parks include picnic tables, fire rings, flush toilets, and hot showers. Need to dump or refill water mid-trip? Several RV resorts in Morgan Hill and Gilroy offer public dump stations for a small fee. Tip: confirm hookup type when reserving, the difference between a 30-amp and 50-amp site matters for bigger rigs running AC.
parks.santaclaracounty.gov/locations/sanborn-county-parkWhat's included inside a typical RV rental from Lexington Hills?
Local rigs come well-equipped, this is not bare-bones camping. Expect a real bed (queen or king in most Class C and Class A units), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower. Most motorhome rental Lexington Hills listings include a dinette, sofa, and seatbelted seats for travel, along with heat, AC, and a propane system. Many hosts also include linens, kitchenware, outdoor chairs, and a TV. Wi-Fi and onboard generators are common in newer units, check the listing's amenities section to confirm. Tip: filter by your party size first (Sleeps 4, 6, 8), then sort by amenities you actually care about like pet-friendly or generator-equipped.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lexington%20Hills%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect?
Lexington Hills hosts make customization easy. Common add-ons include camp chairs and tables ($10 to $25 per trip), generator use ($3 to $5 per hour), bike racks, kayak racks, linens and kitchen kits ($25 to $75), Wi-Fi hotspots, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup usually happens at the host's home in Los Gatos, Campbell, Saratoga, or San Jose between 1 and 4 p.m., with drop-off by 11 a.m., though many hosts are flexible if you ask. Mileage policies vary from 100 free miles per night to unlimited mileage, so read the listing carefully. Tip: bundle add-ons during booking to avoid back-and-forth, and ask about early pickup, hosts often allow it if their schedule permits.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lexington%20Hills%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: everything runs through the RVezy platform, no cash or off-platform transfers needed. You pay the rental amount with a credit or debit card when you book, which locks in your dates and the rig. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is held on your card before pickup and released after drop-off, assuming the rig comes back in the condition it left. Avoid issues by taking timestamped photos and videos at pickup and drop-off as your record if any disputes arise. Tip: use a credit card with travel protections rather than a debit card so the hold does not tie up cash in your checking account.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs Lexington Hills a good base for a family RV trip?
Lexington Hills is a great family RV trip Lexington Hills base in Northern California, with mountains, beaches, redwoods, and Silicon Valley attractions all within an hour. Spend a morning at Lexington Reservoir paddleboarding (kayaks and SUPs are welcome, no swimming), visit The Tech Interactive museum in San Jose, then roll down Highway 17 to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for arcade games and the Giant Dipper roller coaster. Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton offers a steam-train ride through old-growth redwoods that kids adore. Wrap the day with a campfire at Sanborn County Park. Tip: book a Class C with bunks so the kids get their own zone and you keep the queen bed.
