Campgrounds and RV parks near Mokelumne Hill, CA

Pardee Lake Recreation is the main on-water draw, with fishing, boating, kayaking, and two on-site swimming pools. Lake swimming, water skiing, and personal watercraft are not allowed because the reservoir is a drinking-water source. Anglers find trout, kokanee salmon, bass, catfish, and sunfish, and the marina rents boats. Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park preserves a marbleized limestone outcropping with roughly 1,185 Miwok mortar holes, the largest collection of bedrock mortars in North America, plus a reconstructed Miwok village, a roundhouse, and the Chaw'se Regional Indian Museum. The park has two developed trails, including a self-guided nature loop. Beyond the campgrounds, Highway 49 connects historic Gold Rush towns such as Jackson, Sutter Creek, Volcano, and Murphys, and the Shenandoah Valley wine region sits about 25 minutes from Jackson.

The foothills follow a Mediterranean pattern: hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with mild daytime temperatures and lower fire risk. Summer brings dry heat that regularly pushes into the 90s Fahrenheit, and shaded sites are valuable. Late summer and early fall can carry wildfire smoke from regional fires, so checking CAL FIRE advisories before a trip is worthwhile. Seasonal access varies by campground. Jackson Rancheria RV Park operates year-round. Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park is open year-round and accepts reservations through ReserveCalifornia, with the campground filling on holiday weekends. Pardee Lake Recreation, by contrast, is not year-round: the park closes during the migratory bird season as part of EBMUD's wildlife enhancement program, typically reopening the first Friday in February and closing in late October or early November. Winter rainfall is heaviest from December through February, and occasional dustings of snow are possible at higher foothill elevations.

Sites in the area range from full-hookup resort pads to primitive forested loops. Jackson Rancheria RV Park has level cement pads with 50/30/20-amp power, water, sewer, cable TV, and Wi-Fi, plus a year-round pool, two spas, laundry, a dog park, a general store with an RV wash, and a casino shuttle. Pardee Lake Recreation has 141 oak-shaded campsites across two campgrounds, Lakeview and Oaks, with picnic tables, fire rings, flush restrooms, hot showers, and a renovated RV park with 56 full-hookup sites. Indian Grinding Rock is more rustic: 22 oak-shaded sites accept tents, trailers, and RVs up to 27 feet, with picnic tables, fire rings, food lockers, piped water, flush toilets, and token-operated showers. No hookups are available. Cell coverage is variable in the foothills, and shaded sites are a priority in summer heat.
