Campgrounds near Parklawn, California
Parklawn sits in California's northern San Joaquin Valley, near Modesto and within a short drive of several state-managed riverside campgrounds along the Stanislaus, Merced, and San Joaquin rivers. The closest public option is Caswell Memorial State Park, a 258-acre park along the Stanislaus River with 64 single-family campsites suited to smaller RVs, trailers, and tents. The campground accommodates motorhomes up to 24 feet and trailers up to 21 feet, with no hookups available.
For RV travelers wanting hookups, Kit Fox RV Park LLP and French Camp RV Park offer private-park alternatives closer to the Highway 99 corridor. To the south along the Merced River, McConnell State Recreation Area is a riverside park with shady trees, grassy fields, and a slow-moving stretch of river good for fishing and swimming. George J Hatfield State Recreation Area is a quieter park a little farther downstream with more than a mile of river frontage. Together these parks give renters a mix of riparian woodland, river beaches, and rural settings within roughly an hour of Parklawn.
Things to do near Parklawn
River recreation anchors most trips. At Caswell Memorial State Park, activities include campfire programs, picnicking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, biking, hiking, and wildlife viewing, with seasonal tubing from the campground to the day-use area. At McConnell State Recreation Area, campers can fish the Merced River for catfish, black bass, and perch, or wade and swim in the slow-moving river during warmer months. George J Hatfield State Recreation Area offers fishing, picnicking, river wading, sunbathing, hiking, kayaking, and nature study along more than a mile of Merced River frontage. Off-site, families use Parklawn as a base for day trips to Modesto, the Yosemite gateway towns, and the Sierra reservoirs to the east.

91° / 59°F 2 mmHot and dry; river sites fill fast, book early.
- fall

77° / 50°F 20 mmWarm, dry early; cooler with first storms by November.
- winter
December - February
57° / 39°F 70 mmWettest season; tule fog and possible flood closures.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to camp. Days are mild, rivers run fuller after winter rain, and crowds are lighter than peak summer. Wildflowers along the Merced are at their best after spring rain, and trout fishing on the river is best in the cooler months.
Summer brings heavy heat to the valley floor, with daytime highs frequently above 35C and stretches of 100F-plus weather from June through September. Caswell, McConnell, and Hatfield all become popular for river swimming and tubing, so summer weekends fill quickly and reservations are essential. Mosquitoes can be heavy along the Merced, particularly during warmer months, so bring repellent.
Winter is the wet season. Days are cool and foggy, and tule fog can reduce visibility on Highway 99 and rural roads. River levels rise with storms, and some areas of Caswell remain closed due to past flooding damage, so check park status before booking a winter trip.

How to book campgrounds near Parklawn
California State Parks handles reservations for Caswell Memorial, McConnell, and George J Hatfield through a single system. Reservations are available through ReserveCalifornia up to six months in advance, online or by calling 1-800-444-7275. Caswell and McConnell take individual family-site reservations online. At Hatfield, the family campsites are first come, first served, while the group site is reservable and requires a party of at least nine people, up to a maximum of fifty. Private parks, including Kit Fox RV Park LLP and French Camp RV Park, book directly through the operator and typically accommodate larger rigs with full hookups. Summer weekends and holidays sell out well in advance, so booking early is essential.
What to expect
These are working-valley parks, not destination resorts. The state recreation areas are rustic: expect picnic tables, fire rings, food lockers, flush restrooms, potable water, and coin-operated hot showers, but limited or no hookups. McConnell has 21 primitive sites for tents and RVs with no hookups, though drinking water and a dump station are on site. Hatfield's family sites are walk-in tent sites a short distance from the parking area. RV renters in larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should confirm length limits before booking Caswell, where trailers are capped at 21 feet and motorhomes at 24. Cell coverage is generally workable but spotty inside river groves. Store food in provided lockers, and bring shade, insect repellent, and plenty of water in summer; bring layers and rain gear in winter.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Parklawn, CA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Parklawn, CA?
RV rental in Parklawn is one of the more affordable ways to explore California's Central Valley and the Sierra Nevada. Travel trailers near Parklawn typically rent for around $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A coaches often start near $250 to $350 per night. Because Parklawn sits in the Modesto metro area along Highway 99, you will usually find deeper inventory and better pricing than in coastal California cities like San Francisco or Monterey. Pro tip: book midweek or in the shoulder seasons (March, April, October) for the cheapest RV rental Parklawn has on offer, and ask hosts about weekly or monthly discounts for longer Yosemite trips.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Parklawn%2C%20CaliforniaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Parklawn?
Good news: for the vast majority of RVs you will rent in Parklawn, your regular California Class C driver's license is all you need. California only requires a non-commercial Class B license if the motorhome is over 40 feet long, and a non-commercial Class A for trailers/fifth wheels over 10,000 pounds GVWR towed for non-commercial use. Almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on RVezy falls within standard Class C limits. To rent on RVezy you also need to meet approved driver requirements, generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID inside the booking flow.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my motorhome rental Parklawn covered if something happens on the road?
Yes, you can book your motorhome rental Parklawn with real peace of mind. Every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan that covers damage to the RV based on the coverage level you select at checkout, plus 24/7 roadside assistance that travels with you whether you are parked at Modesto Reservoir or climbing Highway 120 toward Yosemite. You choose your protection level during checkout (not the host), so you can match coverage to your trip. It is the kind of safety net that makes a first-time family RV trip from Parklawn feel a whole lot less stressful.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Parklawn RV rental?
You can book confidently knowing RVezy applies a clear, standardized cancellation policy to every reservation, so terms are consistent no matter which Parklawn listing you choose (cancellation policy is set by RVezy, not by individual hosts). Refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy helps you receive a refund or rebooking credit. Pro tip: message the host through the listing first if your dates are flexible, sometimes shifting by a weekend solves the issue without a cancellation at all.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental Parklawn?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Parklawn options are plentiful, and the Central Valley is a great place to travel with a dog. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see motorhomes and trailers whose hosts welcome four-legged guests. Dogs love Woodward Reservoir Regional Park north of Oakdale (leashed dogs allowed in most areas with shoreline access) and Caswell Memorial State Park along the Stanislaus River near Ripon, where shaded sites are perfect for a pup on a hot Valley afternoon. Just remember Yosemite Valley restricts pets to paved areas, so plan a Stanislaus National Forest stop instead if your dog wants to stretch on real trails.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to me in Parklawn?
Yes, RV delivery Parklawn is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it's perfect if you're nervous about driving a big rig through Modesto traffic or up to Yosemite. Many hosts will deliver and set up your RV directly at campgrounds like Modesto Reservoir Regional Park, Woodward Reservoir, or even your driveway in the 95358 ZIP code, then walk you through every system before they leave. Filter listings by Delivery to see who serves the Parklawn area and the delivery radius they offer. It's the easiest way to enjoy RV camping Parklawn without ever getting behind the wheel of the motorhome yourself.
stancounty.com/parks/How far can I drive on an RV road trip from Parklawn?
You can reach an incredible variety of destinations on an RV road trip from Parklawn thanks to its central location at the junction of Highways 99 and 132. Yosemite National Park's Big Oak Flat entrance is about 90 miles east (roughly 2 hours), Pinnacles National Park sits 110 miles west, Lake Tahoe is around 165 miles northeast, and the Monterey Bay coast is about 130 miles southwest. Sequoia National Park is a scenic 200-mile drive south. Mileage policies are set by each host, so look for listings advertising RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a longer loop, or ask the host directly before booking to confirm your route fits.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhat are the best campgrounds near Parklawn, CA?
You're spoiled for choice with great campgrounds near Parklawn. parks.ca.gov/?page_id=574When is the best time of year for RV camping Parklawn?
The sweet spot for RV camping Parklawn is spring (March to May) and fall (September to early November), when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit range and nights are cool but not cold. Summers in the San Joaquin Valley regularly push past 100 degrees, so if you visit in July or August, head to higher elevations like Pinecrest Lake or Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows where temperatures drop 20 to 30 degrees. Winters are mild (50s by day, 40s at night) with the Valley's famous Tule fog rolling in some mornings. Pro tip: October is gold, harvest season in wine country, warm days, and Yosemite waterfalls without the crowds.
weather.gov/hnx/I've never rented an RV before. How does it actually work?
First time renting an RV? You're in great company, and Parklawn is one of the friendliest places to start. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, water tanks, propane, slide-outs, and how to back into a campsite. You can message your host through the listing before booking with any questions about driving on Highway 99 or navigating to Yosemite. Many Parklawn-area hosts even offer delivery, so you can skip the driving entirely. Stick to a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first trip, they handle like a big van and fit easily at Modesto Reservoir or Caswell State Park.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/rvs.htmWhat if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy rental in Parklawn comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included with the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tows. From Parklawn you are within an hour of major RV service centers in Modesto, Manteca, and Tracy, and there are well-staffed truck stops along Highway 99 in both directions. If something goes sideways on Highway 120 between Groveland and Yosemite, roadside crews regularly run that corridor. Pro tip: save the RVezy roadside assistance number to your phone before pickup, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and plate so any callout goes smoothly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Parklawn RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, interstate road trips are allowed and popular from Parklawn, with Nevada (Reno and Lake Tahoe), Oregon (Crater Lake), and Arizona (Grand Canyon) all reachable within a long day or two. Travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the specific host and their insurance, so message the host through the listing to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. A favorite multi-state route from Parklawn is the Highway 395 loop: Mono Lake, Bodie ghost town, and Lake Tahoe, all reachable through Yosemite's Tioga Pass when it is open (typically late May or June through October).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Parklawn RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on any RV road trip from Parklawn, so it pays to plan. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans get 16 to 20 mpg, and trucks pulling travel trailers average 9 to 12 mpg. California gas prices run consistently higher than the national average, currently around $4.50 to $5.00 per gallon in the Modesto area. For a 400-mile round trip to Yosemite and back, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Manteca or Oakdale before heading into the Sierra, gas inside Yosemite at Crane Flat and Wawona can run a dollar more per gallon.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book campgrounds near Parklawn?
For the best campgrounds near Parklawn, earlier is always better. Yosemite Valley campgrounds (Upper Pines, Lower Pines, North Pines) release reservations on Recreation.gov on the 15th of each month, five months in advance at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time, and they sell out in minutes. California State Parks like Caswell Memorial and Turlock Lake open six months ahead on ReserveCalifornia.com. Stanislaus County reservoirs (Modesto and Woodward) take reservations through their county parks system and fill up fast for summer weekends. Pro tip: if you miss the initial release, set a cancellation alert, plans change constantly and great Yosemite sites pop back open daily.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232447What are the local driving conditions like around Parklawn?
Driving around Parklawn is refreshingly easy compared to coastal California. Highway 99 is a flat, four-lane corridor with light traffic outside of weekday rush hours in Modesto, and surface streets are wide and grid-laid. The real planning happens when you head east: Highway 120 to Yosemite climbs from 100 feet to over 6,000 feet with steep grades and tight curves past Groveland, so take it slow in a motorhome and use lower gears on descents. Watch for winter Tule fog in December and January (visibility under 100 feet some mornings) and summer afternoon thunderstorms in the Sierra. Caltrans QuickMap is your friend for real-time conditions.

Private parks like Kit Fox RV Park in Patterson and Two Rivers RV Park near Vernalis offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp electric), Wi-Fi, and laundry. recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232447What's inside a typical RV rental in Parklawn?

A standard Class C motorhome rental Parklawn sleeps 4 to 6 with a queen bed over the cab, a convertible dinette, and a rear bedroom, plus a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove, sink), a wet bath with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning, furnace heat, and a generator for boondocking off-grid at Woodward Reservoir. Most include a TV, and many hosts now offer Wi-Fi hotspots or Starlink as an add-on, handy when you're outside cell range near Yosemite. Campervan rental Parklawn options (Class B) trade space for fuel economy and easier driving, perfect for couples. All passengers need seatbelted seats, so confirm the sleeps-and-seats count matches your group.

Pickup is usually at the host's home in Modesto, Ceres, or Turlock, with delivery available within a 20 to 50 mile radius for a flat fee. Confirm pickup time, walkthrough length (usually 30 to 60 minutes), and dropoff fuel and tank levels in your host's listing before booking.
stancounty.com/parks/How does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Parklawn?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through RVezy during booking with a credit or debit card, no cash exchanges with the host and no surprise charges at pickup. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) and released after dropoff once the host confirms the RV was returned in the same condition. To avoid deposit issues on your Parklawn RV trip, take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and fuel gauge at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's tank-dumping and refueling instructions, and keep receipts. If anything is unclear, message the host before pickup.
