Campgrounds near Parkway, California
Parkway is a census-designated place in Sacramento County, just south of downtown Sacramento, sitting on the valley floor at low elevation. The area places RV travelers within minutes of the American River Parkway, a 32-mile recreation corridor that runs along the American River through Sacramento County and links dozens of smaller parks, boat ramps, and trailheads. Sacramento sits at the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers and is a short drive from the Sierra Nevada, so Parkway works well as a base for river recreation, day trips into the foothills, and visits to the state capital.
RV options in the immediate area are mostly private full-service parks rather than public campgrounds. Closest to Parkway are Sherwood Harbor Marina and RV Park, Cal Expo RV Park, Capitol West RV and MH Park, Sacramento Shade RV Park, and SacWest RV Park and Campground. Highways 50 and 99 and Interstate 80 all converge on Sacramento, which keeps these parks easy to reach from any direction on a California road trip.
Things to do near Parkway
The American River Parkway is the main draw. The paved Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail runs the full length of the corridor, linking Discovery Park near downtown with Beal's Point at Folsom Lake, and is open to cyclists, runners, and walkers. River access points support fishing, swimming, kayaking, and rafting, with summer floats a long-standing tradition and salmon fishing concentrated in fall. Families can pair river time with downtown stops such as Old Sacramento, the California State Railroad Museum, the State Capitol, and the Sacramento Zoo. About 25 miles east, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area adds boating, swimming beaches, and miles of additional trails. Cal Expo, home to the California State Fair each summer, sits next to the Parkway and hosts concerts and events throughout the year.

Sacramento's climate is Mediterranean: hot, dry, nearly cloudless summers and mild, wet winters. The rainy season runs roughly November through February, when over half the annual precipitation falls, though measurable rain typically occurs only about ten days a month. Winter daytime highs are usually in the 50s, and hard freezes are rare, so most private RV parks in the area stay open year-round. Spring is mild and green, with wildflowers along the Parkway and river flows often running high from Sierra snowmelt.
Summer brings the heaviest demand. Daytime highs frequently top 100°F, and about 23 days a year reach the triple digits. That heat is also what drives rafting and lake traffic, and it coincides with the California State Fair at Cal Expo, when nearby RV parks fill quickly. Fall is one of the most comfortable windows for an RV trip: warm days, cool nights, lighter crowds, and the start of salmon season on the American River.

The RV is clean, cute, and cozy and has everything you need to have a perfect trip. We had an amazing trip with lots of memories and will definitely rent from them again for our next RV adventure.

Couldn’t have asked for a better host! This was my family’s first time in a camper trailer and Patrick was able to answer all of my questions patiently. He delivered the camper right at check in and had the AC running for us which made for a very welcoming introduction to Jellystone park. I highly recommend Patrick for anyone wanting a clean and cozy rv!

How to book campgrounds near Parkway
The private RV parks closest to Parkway, including Sherwood Harbor Marina and RV Park, Cal Expo RV Park, Capitol West RV and MH Park, Sacramento Shade RV Park, and SacWest RV Park and Campground, take reservations directly through their own offices or websites. Cal Expo RV Park in particular fills during the State Fair and other Cal Expo events, so booking well ahead for summer dates is advised. For public campgrounds in the region, including Beals Point and Peninsula at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, reservations are handled through ReserveCalifornia. The system uses a rolling window that opens six months in advance from the current date, with new dates released daily at 8 a.m. Pacific time. Reservations can be made online at ReserveCalifornia.com or by phone, generally up to two days before arrival, subject to availability.
What to expect
Parks closest to Parkway are urban or suburban in character, not wilderness. Expect paved or graveled pads, full hookups at most private parks, and quick access to grocery stores, fuel, and restaurants rather than remote settings. Cal Expo RV Park sits on the State Fair grounds and is set back from through traffic, with the American River Parkway and its bike path nearby. Summer heat is the main planning factor: shade varies site to site, and rigs should be set up for sustained triple-digit afternoons, including adequate power for air conditioning. Mosquitoes can appear near the rivers in spring and early summer. Public campgrounds at Folsom Lake are more rustic, with limited or no hookups and length restrictions on trailers and motorhomes, so confirm site dimensions before booking. Day-use parking fees apply at most California State Parks.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Parkway, CA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Parkway, CA?
RV rental in Parkway, CA is one of the more affordable ways to explore Northern California, with most rentals landing between $95 and $200 per night depending on the rig. Travel trailers and campervans sit at the lower end, while Class A and Class C motorhomes typically run $175 to $300 nightly. To score a cheap RV rental in Parkway, book mid-week, target shoulder seasons like late March or October when Sacramento Valley temperatures are mild, and look for hosts offering free local miles. Pro tip: pairing a smaller travel trailer with a nearby spot like Cal Expo RV Park keeps your total trip cost well under a hotel-and-rental-car combo.
visitsacramento.com/hotels/rv-parks-and-camping/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Parkway, CA?
Good news: for nearly every RV rental in Parkway, your standard Class C driver's license is all you need. California only requires a Noncommercial Class B license for motorhomes over 26,000 pounds or longer than 40 feet, and a Noncommercial Class A for trailers over 10,000 pounds, and those sizes are well above what most renters choose. You'll need to be at least 25 years old to book on RVezy, and ID confirmation happens right inside the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license and you're set to start your Sacramento Valley adventure.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook-2011/license-classes-and-requirements/What protection is included when I rent an RV in Parkway?

Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan, which is one reason first-time motorhome rental Parkway guests feel confident booking. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully before confirming so you know exactly what is included before you head toward Folsom Lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is RVezy's cancellation policy for a Parkway RV rental?
Booking your Parkway RV trip is low-risk because RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy across the platform. There is a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in dates while you finalize plans, plus structured refund windows tied to how far out your trip is. If a host cancels, guests receive a refund or travel credit per RVezy policy. Wildfires and air-quality issues sometimes affect the Sacramento Valley in late summer, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: book early for spring weekends at Folsom Lake to secure the best rigs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Parkway RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Parkway options are plentiful, just filter for Pet-Friendly on RVezy and you will find dozens of rigs whose hosts welcome dogs. Sacramento County is one of the most dog-loving regions in California, and your pup will love the 32-mile American River Parkway trail that runs right past the area with leash-friendly access points. Folsom Lake State Recreation Area also allows leashed dogs throughout most of the recreation area, though not on the swim beaches. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and ask about their favorite local dog-friendly stops between Parkway and Beals Point Campground.
arpf.org/american-river-parkwayCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Parkway?
Yes, RV delivery Parkway is one of the most popular options for first-timers, and many hosts will drive the RV straight to your driveway, a Sacramento-area campground like Cal Expo RV Park, or even directly to Beals Point at Folsom Lake about 25 miles east. The host levels the rig, hooks up water and electric, and walks you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees usually run $2 to $4 per mile round-trip. Pro tip: if you are flying into Sacramento International Airport (SMF), book delivery to a nearby campground so your Parkway RV trip starts the moment you land, no driving the rig through city traffic.
visitsacramento.com/hotels/rv-parks-and-camping/How far can I drive from Parkway on an RV trip?
You can cover serious ground when you rent an RV in Parkway because you are perfectly placed at the I-5 and Highway 50 junction. Popular trips include Lake Tahoe (about 110 miles east, roughly 2 hours), Yosemite National Park (about 175 miles, 3.5 hours), Napa Valley wine country (about 65 miles, 1.5 hours), the Mendocino Coast (about 180 miles, 4 hours), and Lassen Volcanic National Park (about 175 miles, 3.5 hours). Many hosts offer 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: ask about unlimited-mileage add-ons up front if you are planning a multi-stop RV road trip from Parkway.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/driving.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Parkway, CA?
You have great options for RV camping Parkway in every direction. Cal Expo RV Park sits just a few miles north with full hookups and easy access to the American River Parkway trail. Sac West RV Park and Campground, about 10 miles west off I-80, offers a pool and pull-through sites suited to bigger rigs. About 25 miles east, Beals Point Campground at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area accommodates RVs with a mix of hookup and non-hookup sites. Pro tip: Beals Point is one of the best campgrounds near Parkway and books up fast for summer weekends, so reserve through ReserveCalifornia as early as possible.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=500When is the best time to take an RV trip from Parkway?
The sweet spot for a Parkway RV trip is mid-March through mid-May and again from late September through early November, when daytime highs hover between 65 and 80°F and nights are cool and clear. Summer (June through September) is reliably sunny but routinely climbs past 95°F and often hits 100°F+, so target lake-adjacent campgrounds and run the AC on shore power. Winters are mild with daytime highs in the mid-50s and very little rain, making December and January quietly excellent for budget travelers. Pro tip: April wildflowers along the American River Parkway are stunning, and that is also when Folsom Lake water levels peak from Sierra snowmelt.
forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=38.5769&lon=-121.495I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will do great, first time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, especially in Parkway where the terrain is flat and the roads are wide. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, the propane system, water hookups, and the dump process. You can message your host any time during the trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first rental, then do a short shake-down trip to Cal Expo RV Park or Sac West before tackling a longer haul to Tahoe or Yosemite.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own, every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked in Parkway or 100 miles down Highway 50. Roadside covers common issues like flat tires, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to a service location. Your host is also reachable directly through the app and usually knows the rig inside out. Pro tip: before leaving Parkway, snap photos of the tire pressures, fluid levels, and propane gauge during your walk-through so you have a baseline to reference if something feels off on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take a Parkway RV rental into Oregon, Nevada, or Canada?
Cross-state travel is welcome on most rentals, an RV road trip from Parkway into Nevada (Reno or Lake Tahoe's east shore), Oregon (Crater Lake is about 380 miles north), or Arizona is typically allowed, you just want to confirm the route with your host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across the border. Canada-bound trips from Parkway are long but allowed with host approval. Pro tip: the Reno-Tahoe loop is a perennial favorite, message hosts directly from the listing page to confirm your route and any mileage add-ons.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow should I budget for fuel on a Parkway RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on a Sacramento Valley RV trip, but it is easy to estimate. Most Class C motorhomes and travel-trailer tow vehicles average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, while smaller campervan rental Parkway options can hit 18 to 22 mpg. California gas prices typically run higher than the national average, around $4.50 to $5.25 per gallon in the Sacramento area. For a 3-night, 300-mile trip in a Class C, plan on $125 to $190 in fuel. Pro tip: Costco and Sam's Club locations along Florin Road and Power Inn Road near Parkway consistently offer some of the cheapest diesel and gas in the area.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book a campground near Parkway?
For peak season (May through Labor Day), book your campground as soon as you confirm your dates, California State Parks releases sites six months in advance at 8 a.m. Pacific via ReserveCalifornia, and popular spots like Beals Point at Folsom Lake fill the moment they drop. Private RV parks like Cal Expo, Sac West, and Sacramento Shade RV Park typically book 2 to 6 weeks ahead for summer weekends. Off-season (November through February) is mostly first-come, first-served and easy to snag last-minute. Pro tip: if Beals Point is full, set a free CampScanner alert and check back for cancellations a week before your trip.
reservecalifornia.com/What are driving conditions like around Parkway?
Driving around Parkway is refreshingly easy, the surrounding Sacramento Valley is flat, the grid is logical, and freeways like I-5, US-50, and Highway 99 are wide and RV-friendly. Avoid rush hour (7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.) on I-5 through downtown Sacramento and on the Highway 50 corridor toward Folsom. Summer brings occasional high-wind advisories on the Yolo Causeway west of town, and winter storms can close I-80 over Donner Pass heading to Tahoe, so check Caltrans QuickMap before any mountain trip. Pro tip: low overpasses are rare here, but always know your RV's height (most are 10-12 feet) before exiting onto urban streets near downtown.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities do campgrounds near Parkway offer?
Campgrounds near Parkway run from full-resort to rustic. Cal Expo RV Park offers full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, sewer), a dog park, and laundry. Sac West RV Park has a pool, full hookups, and Wi-Fi. Beals Point at Folsom Lake provides 28 full-hookup sites plus a sanitation dump station, piped drinking water, hot showers, and wheelchair-accessible restrooms. For freshwater fills and dump stations between trips, both Cal Expo and Sac West allow non-guest dumping for a small fee. Pro tip: where to park an RV in Parkway overnight is limited (no Walmart overnighting in city limits), so always have a campground reservation before you leave the lot.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1352What's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Parkway?
Most RV rentals in Parkway come fully road-ready with everything you need to live comfortably. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (great for family RV trip Parkway groups of 4 to 6), a kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a full bathroom with shower and toilet, roof A/C and furnace, a generator or shore-power hookup, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many rigs add a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Pro tip: filter listings by Sleeps count and amenities like generator and outdoor shower, the Valley sun in summer makes an exterior shower a surprisingly nice perk after a day on the American River.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Parkway%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and options can I expect with my Parkway RV rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize your rent an RV in Parkway experience with popular add-ons like bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor mats, generators, bike racks, and propane refills. Delivery and setup pricing is set per listing and typically charged per mile from the host's location, and pickup/drop-off windows are usually mid-afternoon to allow time for orientation. Mileage policies vary: many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with overage charged per mile, and some offer unlimited-mileage upgrades. Pro tip: ask for the kitchen kit, it saves a trip to the store on day one and gets you to Folsom Lake faster.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Parkway%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure, you pay through the platform with a supported card and never hand cash to the host. Your booking total covers the nightly rate, the protection plan you selected, the service fee, and any add-ons. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment, with the amount set by the host, and is released after the trip assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid issues, complete the pickup and return walkthroughs with the host, take time-stamped photos of the exterior and interior, and respect the mileage and generator-hour limits. Pro tip: return the tank at the same fill level you received to avoid refueling fees.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle Sacramento Valley summer heat in my RV?
Summer in Parkway is hot and dry, with highs from June through September regularly hitting 95 to 105 F, but your RV is built for it. Choose a campground with 30 or 50 amp shore power (Cal Expo, Sac West, and Beals Point all qualify) so you can run the roof A/C without draining the generator. Park in shade where possible, use reflective windshield covers, and keep awnings extended on the sun-facing side. Drive in the early morning or evening to avoid peak heat. Pro tip: a quick float on the American River or a swim at Granite Bay on Folsom Lake is the local insider move for cooling off fast.
