Campgrounds near Rolling Hills, California
Rolling Hills is a small census-designated place in Madera County, on the west side of State Route 41 about 12 miles north of Fresno. The community sits at roughly 371 feet of elevation in the southern San Joaquin Valley, with the Sierra Nevada foothills rising to the northeast and Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon all reachable for a road trip.
For RV travelers, the area combines valley-floor private parks with foothill state recreation land. Fresno Mobile Home and RV Park and New Horizons Mobile/ RV Park sit closest to Rolling Hills on the Fresno side, offering full-hookup sites convenient for overnight stops or longer stays. About a half-hour northeast, Millerton Lake State Recreation Area runs several loops, including Rocky Point - Mono - Ft Miller - Duma Strand - Millerton Lake State Recreation Area and Meadows - Valley Oak - Millerton Lake State Recreation Area, with a mix of standard, electric, and full-hookup sites on bluffs above the reservoir. Farther up Highway 41 toward Yosemite, Park of the Sierras in Coarsegold serves as an Escapees co-op park geared to RVers.
Things to do near Rolling Hills
Millerton Lake is the main outdoor draw. The reservoir has over 40 miles of shoreline and supports boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, windsurfing, and sailing. Hiking trails along the bluffs offer views of the lake and the Sierra Nevada, and the park is a known spot for bald and golden eagle sightings, with winter boat tours focused on eagle viewing. A boat ramp, picnic area, and playground round out the day-use facilities. Highway 41 heads north from Rolling Hills toward Oakhurst, Bass Lake, and the south entrance of Yosemite National Park, putting Yosemite Valley within a manageable day trip. Fresno itself adds zoos, museums, and full-service shopping for restock runs.

The valley around Rolling Hills runs on a Mediterranean rhythm: hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. From March through May, daytime highs sit in a mild range, wildflowers bloom along the Millerton bluffs, and reservoir levels are typically at their best for boating. October and November bring cooler nights and clear days, with most summer crowds gone.
Summer is the peak booking season. Inland highs frequently top 100 degrees Fahrenheit from June through August, so shaded sites and electric hookups for air conditioning become important. Holiday weekends at Millerton Lake fill months in advance. Winter is the quietest season. Tule fog is common in the valley, rainfall concentrates between December and February, and the park hosts seasonal bald eagle boat tours. At Millerton Lake, the Meadows loop and group camps stay open year-round while the other loops, including Rocky Point, Mono, Ft Miller, Duma Strand, and Valley Oak, open from April through September.

We rented this RV for the long weekend for our first camping trip with our 1-year-old and 5-year-old, and we had such a wonderful time! The RV was incredibly clean, new, and comfortable. We also needed the trailer to be delivered, and the entire communication and delivery process was so smooth and right on time. We really appreciate all of the help and kindness from the owner. On our way back, our car wouldn’t start when he came to pick up the trailer. He took the time to help us with our car and suggested something that actually worked and got it started! We truly appreciated him going above and beyond to help us. We would definitely book another trip with him in the future.

RV was nice and clean, a couple of mishaps refrigerator door does not lock so our food fell out all over the floor neither does the cabinet door and our dry goods also flew out onto the floor, battery would not hold a charge.

We had the best time using this RV while camping in Yosemite area! 10/10 recommend.

I truly can’t say enough about how amazing our experience was with Andrea’s travel trailer. The communication before booking was outstanding, and when we needed a couple of extra considerations they were so kind and helpful. The trailer was delivered in immaculate shape and cleanliness. Everything functioned perfectly and there were no surprises, other than the fact that the trailer was even better than expected. We wouldn’t hesitate to rent this trailer again, and anyone who rents it will be VERY happy with both the trailer and the booking experience!

How to book campgrounds near Rolling Hills
Sites inside Millerton Lake State Recreation Area, including the Rocky Point, Mono, Ft Miller, Duma Strand, Meadows, and Valley Oak loops, are booked through ReserveCalifornia. Reservations open up to six months in advance and can be made as late as two days before arrival, subject to availability. Summer weekends and holidays fill earliest, so booking at the six-month window is the safest plan. The Meadows loop offers full-hookup sites along with standard sites, and most sites can accommodate RVs up to about 36 feet. Private parks such as Fresno Mobile Home and RV Park and New Horizons Mobile/ RV Park are booked directly with the operator. Park of the Sierras in Coarsegold is a member-only Escapees co-op park, which requires an Escapees (SKP) membership to stay.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a working agricultural and foothill landscape rather than alpine forest. Valley sites near Fresno tend to be flat, paved, and built for full hookups, with limited shade. Millerton Lake campsites sit on bluffs above the reservoir, with paved parking spurs, picnic tables, food storage cabinets, fire rings, and grills at each site. Sites 91-143 add shade shelters, and sites 117-143 have electric hookups. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, vault toilets, paid hot showers, and a dump station. The park does not offer cabins. Cell service in the recreation area is generally fair but inconsistent. Pets are allowed in the campground on a leash. Bring sun protection, plenty of water, and life jackets if heading onto the lake.

Travel trailers in the Madera and Fresno area typically run $95 to $185 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $185 to $310, and larger Class A motorhomes start around $250 and up. Because Rolling Hills sits on State Route 41 in the Central Valley, you are in a less congested rental market than Los Angeles or San Francisco, so cheap RV rental Rolling Hills options pop up often. Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Rolling Hills, California. The state of California does not require a special license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for motorhomes or travel trailers you will find on RVezy, since recreational vehicles under 40 feet fall under standard non-commercial driving rules. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during booking, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? Every RV rental in Rolling Hills, CA booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 41 toward Yosemite with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), which means you decide how much financial cushion you want for physical damage to the RV. Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a clear cancellation policy to every reservation, including a full money-back grace period right after booking, so you can lock in your Rolling Hills RV trip with confidence. Refunds beyond the grace period depend on how far out from your trip you cancel, which matters in Central California where wildfire smoke or winter storms in the Sierra Nevada can occasionally shift plans. Cancellation policies are set by RVezy (not individual hosts), so the process is consistent no matter which RV you book. Pro tip: if conditions change near your trip date, contact RVezy support right away and they will walk you through your options.

Absolutely, and you'll find plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Rolling Hills options on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search, and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) right in their listing. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks restrict pets on most trails, so plan dog-friendly hikes in Sierra National Forest instead. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and you're all set.

Yes, RV delivery Rolling Hills is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if it is your first time renting an RV. This is especially handy because State Route 41 through Rolling Hills can get busy with Yosemite-bound traffic on summer weekends. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see which hosts offer it, along with their delivery range and fees.

weather.gov/hnx/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Rolling Hills a good idea?
Absolutely, Rolling Hills is one of the friendlier places in California for first time renting an RV. The roads around Madera County are wide, mostly flat, and far less stressful than urban LA or San Francisco freeways. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through propane, water, slide-outs, and the dump valve so nothing is a mystery. You can also message the host before booking with any questions. If you're nervous about driving, choose a Class B campervan or smaller Class C motorhome, both of which handle like a large van. Pro tip: practice in the parking lot of a quiet area like Madera Fairgrounds before pointing toward Yosemite.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Rolling Hills trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on Highway 41 heading to Yosemite or have an engine issue at Millerton Lake, help is a phone call away. The roadside team handles common issues like tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy support is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Rolling Hills, especially if you are heading into Sierra National Forest where cell service drops.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Rolling Hills RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state travel from Rolling Hills is generally welcomed, so a classic RV road trip from Rolling Hills to Nevada (Lake Tahoe, Reno), Arizona (Grand Canyon), or Oregon is absolutely on the table. Just confirm with your host when you book, since some set mileage caps or specific route preferences. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage stop at the border. Canada trips are possible with some hosts if you discuss it upfront. Popular multi-state routes from Rolling Hills include the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur (4 hours west), Highway 395 along the Eastern Sierra to Mammoth and Bishop, and the Death Valley loop through southeast California.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on a Rolling Hills RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest line items, but Rolling Hills has a few advantages: gas prices in Madera and Fresno County tend to run 20-40 cents per gallon cheaper than the Bay Area or LA. Plan on 8-10 miles per gallon for a Class C motorhome, 6-8 mpg for a Class A, and 12-18 mpg for a Class B campervan or truck towing a travel trailer. With California gas averaging around $4.75 per gallon in 2026, a 300-mile round trip to Yosemite in a Class C costs roughly $145 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Madera or Fresno before climbing into the Sierra, where mountain stations can charge a dollar more per gallon.

State Route 41 (the Yosemite Freeway) runs right through town with wide lanes and gentle grades into the Sierra foothills. Highway 99 nearby is flat and straight through the Central Valley.
