Campgrounds near Seacliff, California
Seacliff sits on the north shore of Monterey Bay in Santa Cruz County, between Capitola and Aptos, about 15 minutes from downtown Santa Cruz. RV travelers come here for beachfront access, sheltered surf, and easy reach of the wider Santa Cruz coast.
The closest state facility, Seacliff State Beach campground in Aptos, is currently closed. Historic storms in early 2023 destroyed nearly all of the seawall, much of the fill material, the parking lot pavement, and underground utilities, and California State Parks is in the planning phase for rebuilding rather than offering camping. The day-use area remains open. The closest state campground available for reservations is New Brighton State Beach in Capitola, which offers over 100 developed campsites including 11 RV hookup sites on forested bluffs above Monterey Bay. Private options in the area include Seacliff Center RV Park, Santa Cruz Harbor RV Park near the working harbor, and Santa Vida RV Park and Campground, set in the redwoods inland with full-hookup sites tucked into the forest.
Things to do near Seacliff
The main draw is the beach itself. The shoreline is known for the S.S. Palo Alto, a concrete ship built in 1919 and beached just offshore in 1929, now closed to public access and serving as habitat for marine species in Monterey Bay. Walk the day-use promenade, beachcomb at low tide, or fish from the shore. New Brighton State Beach offers beach access and coastal views from wooded bluffs, and during low tides walkers can reach Capitola Village along the sand. Kayak and paddleboard launches are easy from the calmer cove waters. Santa Cruz adds the Beach Boardwalk, the Wharf, and the Steamer Lane surf break. Inland, redwood hikes at Henry Cowell and the Forest of Nisene Marks are within a short drive.

The Santa Cruz coast is a year-round destination, but conditions shift sharply by season. Summer brings the warmest, driest weather and the heaviest demand, with peak weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day filling far in advance at New Brighton and at private parks in the area. The Pacific Migrations Visitor Center at New Brighton typically operates Friday through Sunday during the summer season, and campfire programs run on summer weekends.
Fall brings smaller crowds, warm ocean water, and often the clearest skies, with September and October among the best months to visit. Winter is the wet season and the period of greatest risk to coastal sites. Inclement weather can cause park closures and visitor relocations, and the 2023 and 2024 storms damaged piers, bluffs, and the Seacliff seawall along this stretch. Spring is mild with intermittent rain and morning fog along the coast.
Check the California State Parks website before any winter trip for closures and storm advisories.

How to book a campsite near Seacliff
State park sites are handled through ReserveCalifornia. Reservations open on a rolling window up to six months to the day in advance of the arrival date, with new inventory released each day at 8 a.m. Pacific. Because the Seacliff State Beach campground remains closed, New Brighton State Beach is the closest bookable state campground and fills quickly for summer weekends, so book the moment your target date opens. State park stay rules include a maximum of eight people per site, a limit of two vehicles, and a typical maximum stay of seven days at coastal parks. Private parks such as Seacliff Center RV Park, Santa Cruz Harbor RV Park, and Santa Vida RV Park and Campground book directly with the operator and often allow longer stays. If a state site shows sold out, set a cancellation alert: turnover is frequent on this coast.
What to expect at Seacliff-area campgrounds
At New Brighton State Beach, sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 36 feet in length, with 11 sites offering RV hookups and the remainder dry. Each site has a parking spur, picnic table, fire ring with grill, and food storage locker. The campground has paved roads, an RV dump station, flush toilets, and coin-operated hot showers, so bring quarters. Cell service is generally usable along the coast and weaker under the redwoods inland. Fires at New Brighton and Rio del Mar must be confined to provided fire rings and attended at all times. Dogs are welcome at campsites on leash but restricted on most state beaches. Mornings are often foggy and cool, even in summer.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Seacliff, CA
How much does an RV rental in Seacliff, CA typically cost?
An RV rental in Seacliff is often more affordable than a beachfront hotel in Santa Cruz County. On RVezy, campervans typically start around $95 to $150 per night, travel trailers run $120 to $200, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes range from $200 to $375 per night. Hosts set their own pricing, so weekday and shoulder-season trips (October, early spring) tend to be noticeably cheaper than peak summer weekends. For a budget-friendly RV rental Seacliff travelers love, book a delivered trailer that stays parked at your campsite: you skip fuel costs entirely and still wake up to ocean views over Monterey Bay.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Seacliff%2C%20CaliforniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Seacliff, California?
Good news: a regular California driver's license (or any valid US/Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Seacliff. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement is required, even for the largest Class A motorhomes available on the platform. You'll need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through RVezy when you book. Visiting from overseas? Grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before flying in, and you're set. Most first-timers are surprised how straightforward it is, your host will walk you through the rig at pickup so you feel confident before pulling onto Highway 1.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/educational-materials/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers/Is my Seacliff RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Every booking on RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can enjoy your Seacliff RV trip with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level (Basic, Standard, or Premium) during checkout based on the coverage and deductible you prefer. The plan helps shield you from large out-of-pocket costs if something happens on the road between Aptos, Capitola, or down Highway 1 to Big Sur. Tip: first-time renters often pick a higher tier, the small daily upcharge buys a lot of relaxation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Seacliff RV booking?
You can book your Seacliff RV trip with confidence. RVezy applies a clear, platform-wide cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period right after booking in case plans shift. Refund amounts after that depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel, and special considerations apply for events outside your control such as natural disasters or storm-related road shutdowns on Highway 1, which occasionally affect Santa Cruz County. Cancellation terms are set by RVezy (not individual hosts), so the experience is consistent across every listing. Tip: book early to lock in a Monterey Bay beachfront-area RV, then finalize your dates knowing you have flexibility.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Seacliff?
Yes. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see hosts who welcome pets, and you'll find a healthy selection of pet-friendly RV rental Seacliff options including campervans, travel trailers, and motorhomes. Once you arrive, leashed dogs are allowed in the Seacliff State Beach campground and on the beach below the bluff, which is uncommon for California state beaches and a real perk. Nearby New Brighton State Beach and Manresa State Beach also allow leashed dogs in campground areas. Tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and ask about a tie-out spot, most are happy to share their favorite local walks along the Aptos shoreline.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=543Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Seacliff?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular options on the platform for Seacliff trips. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to New Brighton State Beach, Manresa State Beach, Pinto Lake County Park, or a private driveway in Aptos or Capitola, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before leaving. This is a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV or if you'd rather skip towing and city driving. Delivery fees typically scale with distance from the host's location. Tip: ask about a stocked kitchen or linen package add-on at the same time so your campervan rental Seacliff arrives truly turn-key.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037952813-Delivery-options-for-your-rentalHow far can I drive on a Seacliff RV trip, and how does mileage work?
You have plenty of road to explore. Each RVezy host sets their own daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per day), and many listings offer unlimited mileage, ideal for a longer Seacliff RV trip. From Seacliff you're roughly 15 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, 45 minutes to Monterey and Cannery Row, 90 minutes to Pinnacles National Park, about 2 hours to Big Sur's Pfeiffer Beach, and around 3.5 hours to Yosemite Valley. Filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a true road trip from Seacliff up the coast or inland. Tip: if you're parking the RV at one campground all week, a lower mileage cap is usually plenty and often cheaper.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037953273-Understanding-mileage-feesWhere are the best campgrounds near Seacliff, CA?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Seacliff sit right along Monterey Bay. New Brighton State Beach in Capitola (about 3 miles north) offers bluff-top sites with ocean views and is a great option while access to Seacliff State Beach's beachfront campground remains affected by past storm damage. Manresa State Beach in La Selva Beach (about 5 miles south) offers walk-in and RV-friendly sites tucked into Monterey pines. Sunset State Beach near Watsonville has sites high on dune bluffs with hot showers. For full hookups and amenities, Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA in Watsonville and Santa Cruz Ranch RV Resort in Scotts Valley are reliable favorites. Tip: reserve any state beach site exactly six months out at 8 a.m. on ReserveCalifornia, they vanish fast.
reservecalifornia.com/When is the best time of year for RV camping in Seacliff?
Seacliff is a year-round destination thanks to its mild Monterey Bay climate, but the sweet spot is late August through October. Summer highs sit in the upper 60s to mid 70s with the famous coastal marine layer often burning off by midday, while September and October bring warmer, clearer, drier weather, locals call it the secret season. Winter lows rarely drop below the low 40s, so RV camping Seacliff style is comfortable even December through March, though you can expect a handful of rainy days each month. Tip: shoulder-season midweek trips give you better RV rates, easier campground bookings, and overlap with gray whale migration offshore from roughly December to April.
weather.gov/mtr/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Seacliff?
You'll be just fine. Seacliff is one of the friendlier places in California for a first time renting an RV. Highway 1 through Aptos is wide and flat, campground entrances are well signed, and your host will give you a hands-on orientation covering driving, leveling, propane, hookups, and the dump station before you pull away. If merging onto Highway 17 toward San Jose feels intimidating, book a delivered rig and skip the driving entirely. RVezy support is also available 24/7 if questions come up mid-trip. Tip: start with a Class C motorhome or a campervan rental Seacliff hosts deliver, they drive much more like a large van than a bus.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/What happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue near Seacliff?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 1, a dead battery at New Brighton State Beach, or a tow off Soquel Drive is just one phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch help, arrange towing to a service center in Santa Cruz or Watsonville, and coordinate with your host on next steps. RVezy customer support is also reachable before, during, and after your trip. Tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number and the roadside line in your phone before leaving Aptos, it takes 60 seconds and saves stress later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037952613-Roadside-assistance-for-rentersCan I take my Seacliff RV rental to other states or across the border?
Yes, an RV road trip from Seacliff is one of the best ways to see the West. Most hosts allow interstate travel to Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona (think Crater Lake, Lake Tahoe, Zion, Grand Canyon), just confirm the trip plan in the listing or with the host before booking. Travel into Canada may be allowed with prior host approval and the correct cross-border documentation, so ask early if that's your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend south of the border. Tip: popular multi-state loops from Seacliff include Highway 1 up to Mendocino, the Eastern Sierra via Highway 395, and the full California-to-Utah national parks route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Realistic expectations make for a relaxed trip. Campervans (Class B) typically get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes 10 to 14 mpg, large Class A rigs 7 to 10 mpg, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer about 10 to 13 mpg. Gas in Santa Cruz County usually runs higher than the California state average, so budget around $5.00 to $5.50 per gallon when planning. For a 4-night Seacliff RV trip with day drives to Monterey, Big Basin, and Santa Cruz, most renters spend $80 to $200 on fuel total. Pro tip: fill up in Watsonville or Salinas where prices tend to be lower than in Aptos or Capitola, and use apps like GasBuddy to spot the cheapest pump.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book a campground near Seacliff?
The earlier, the better. California coastal campgrounds are some of the most competitive in the country. ReserveCalifornia opens reservations exactly six months in advance at 8:00 a.m. Pacific, and prime summer weekends at New Brighton, Manresa, and Sunset State Beaches often sell out within minutes. For shoulder-season or midweek trips, you can usually find availability 2 to 6 weeks out. Private parks like the Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA and Pinto Lake County Park in Watsonville tend to have more flexibility. Tip: set a calendar reminder for the six-month mark, log into ReserveCalifornia 10 minutes early with your preferred site already saved, and book the moment the clock ticks 8 a.m.
reservecalifornia.com/What are driving conditions like in and around Seacliff?
Driving around Seacliff is genuinely easy compared to most California coastal destinations. Highway 1 through Aptos is a flat, four-lane freeway, and the State Park Drive exit drops you right into the village. The two things to watch: summer beach-day traffic on Highway 1 between Capitola and Santa Cruz (worst Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings), and Highway 17 over the Santa Cruz Mountains toward San Jose, which is winding, steep, and notorious for fog and rear-end fender-benders, take it slow in an RV. Coastal fog is common before 11 a.m., so use low-beam headlights. Pro tip: time your arrival or departure from Seacliff for mid-morning Tuesday through Thursday and you'll glide right through.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Seacliff?
Expect solid amenities at nearly every option. New Brighton State Beach has flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, and a sanitation dump station, it has also been used as a dump and fill station for nearby Seacliff campers. Manresa and Sunset State Beaches both offer hot showers, flush toilets, and fire rings. Private parks like Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA and Pinto Lake County Park add WiFi, laundry, pools, and 50-amp service. Most sites along the Monterey Bay coast have strong cell coverage on major carriers. Tip: full-hookup options directly at Seacliff are limited, so book a private park for hookups and a state beach for the views, then dump on the way out.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=542What's typically included inside the RV I rent?
You'll be impressed by how much comes standard. Most motorhome rental Seacliff listings include a queen or king bed, additional convertible sleeping for 2 to 6 people, a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, dining table, air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for every passenger. Many hosts add TVs, outdoor speakers, solar panels, generators, awnings with LED lighting, and Starlink or hotspot WiFi (a lifesaver for remote workers visiting the Monterey Bay coast). Bedding, kitchen kits, camp chairs, and outdoor mats are common add-ons. Tip: read the 'What's Included' section of each listing carefully, family RV trip Seacliff travelers love hosts who throw in bikes, beach gear, or even surfboards.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Seacliff%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect?
You have great flexibility. Popular add-ons on Seacliff RV rentals include delivery and setup (commonly priced per mile from the host's location), generator usage fees over an included hourly amount, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, BBQs, bikes, kayaks, and pet fees. Mileage policies vary, some hosts include 100 free miles per day, others offer unlimited, and overage is typically charged per mile. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Aptos, Capitola, Santa Cruz, or Watsonville, though delivery to your campground is often the smarter move. Tip: bundle delivery plus a stocked kit and you basically just show up at Seacliff with a duffel bag and groceries.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037952813-Delivery-options-for-your-rentalHow does the security deposit and payment work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book on RVezy, you pay with a credit or debit card directly through the platform, no cash, no off-platform transfers. A refundable security deposit (amount varies by RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the rig came back in good shape. To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walk-through video at pickup and again at return with your host, return the RV with the agreed-upon fuel and propane levels, and dump tanks at New Brighton State Beach before heading back. Tip: keep all communication inside the RVezy app, it's your record if any question ever comes up.
