Campgrounds near West Park
West Park is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Fresno County, California, sitting in the San Joaquin Valley about five miles southwest of downtown Fresno at an elevation of 266 feet. For RV travelers, the area works as a low-elevation base for trips to Millerton Lake, the western Sierra foothills, and the Highway 41 corridor toward Yosemite.
Close-in options lean toward full-hookup private parks suited to longer stays and overnight stops, including New Horizons Mobile/ RV Park and Fresno Mobile Home and RV Park. About 30 to 40 minutes northeast, Millerton Lake State Recreation Area sits in the Sierra foothills and offers reservable state-park sites at Rocky Point - Mono - Ft Miller - Duma Strand - Millerton Lake State Recreation Area and the Meadows - Valley Oak - Millerton Lake State Recreation Area loops. The Millerton Lake campground has 135 campsites on a bluff overlooking the lake, with sites 117-143 carrying electric hookups and sites 91-143 offering shade shelters. Riverbend RV Park rounds out the regional choices along the San Joaquin River drainage.
Things to do near West Park
Millerton Lake has over 40 miles of shoreline and supports boating, kayaking, fishing, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, windsurfing, and sailing. Anglers target largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass, along with crappie, bluegill, and catfish, and a California fishing license is required for anyone aged 16 or older. Hiking trails climb the bluffs above the reservoir, and the day-use areas include picnic sites and a playground. The restored Millerton Courthouse, once the seat of Fresno County, contains interpretive exhibits and was reconstructed on the shore after the original townsite was inundated by the reservoir. In Fresno itself, families can break up a road trip at Fresno Chaffee Zoo, Woodward Park, and the Forestiere Underground Gardens. Highways 41 and 168 head east into the Sierra foothills toward Yosemite and the Sierra National Forest.

The valley around West Park has a hot-summer Mediterranean to cold semi-arid climate, with low annual precipitation and strong seasonal contrasts. Summers are hot and very dry with scarce rainfall, while winters are cool and bring the majority of the limited precipitation, typically in brief showers. Summer highs at lower elevations regularly exceed 100°F, so shaded sites and electric hookups for air conditioning are worth prioritizing.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for tent-style camping and hiking at Millerton Lake, with mild days and cool nights. Summer brings warm conditions suited to water activities, and winter provides a chance to view bald eagles around the reservoir. Winter days are cool and damp, with valley tule fog common in December and January that can reduce visibility on Highway 99 and Interstate 5. Reservoir water levels rise through the wet season and draw down in late summer, which can move the shoreline well below the campground bluffs by fall.

We rented this RV for the long weekend for our first camping trip with our 1-year-old and 5-year-old, and we had such a wonderful time! The RV was incredibly clean, new, and comfortable. We also needed the trailer to be delivered, and the entire communication and delivery process was so smooth and right on time. We really appreciate all of the help and kindness from the owner. On our way back, our car wouldn’t start when he came to pick up the trailer. He took the time to help us with our car and suggested something that actually worked and got it started! We truly appreciated him going above and beyond to help us. We would definitely book another trip with him in the future.

RV was nice and clean, a couple of mishaps refrigerator door does not lock so our food fell out all over the floor neither does the cabinet door and our dry goods also flew out onto the floor, battery would not hold a charge.

We had the best time using this RV while camping in Yosemite area! 10/10 recommend.

I truly can’t say enough about how amazing our experience was with Andrea’s travel trailer. The communication before booking was outstanding, and when we needed a couple of extra considerations they were so kind and helpful. The trailer was delivered in immaculate shape and cleanliness. Everything functioned perfectly and there were no surprises, other than the fact that the trailer was even better than expected. We wouldn’t hesitate to rent this trailer again, and anyone who rents it will be VERY happy with both the trailer and the booking experience!

How to book campgrounds near West Park
Reservations at Millerton Lake State Recreation Area are made through ReserveCalifornia, online or by phone at 1-800-444-PARK. The system uses a rolling six-month window, with new dates opening each day at 8 a.m. Pacific Time, and bookings can be made up to two days before arrival. Summer weekends and holiday periods at the Rocky Point - Mono - Ft Miller - Duma Strand - Millerton Lake State Recreation Area and Meadows - Valley Oak - Millerton Lake State Recreation Area loops fill quickly, so booking near the six-month window is the safest approach. Private parks in the West Park and Fresno area, including New Horizons Mobile/ RV Park, Fresno Mobile Home and RV Park, and Riverbend RV Park, are booked directly with each property by phone or website and tend to have more midweek availability than the state-park loops.
What to expect
At Millerton Lake, expect open foothill terrain with grasslands, oaks, and limited natural shade, especially on the Rocky Point and Mono loops. All campsites have a paved parking spur, table, food storage cabinet, fire ring, and grill. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, vault toilets, hot showers, and a dump station, plus a boat ramp, picnic area, and playground, and cell service is fair. Group and equestrian camping are also available. The campground accommodates RVs and trailers up to 36 feet on 114 sites, and a subset of sites offers electric hookups rather than full hookups. Private parks closer to West Park trend more urban, with paved pads, full hookups, laundry, and easy access to grocery stores and fuel.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in West Park, CA?
Good news, RV rental in West Park is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Central Valley. On RVezy you'll generally see travel trailers from around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from roughly $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches at $250 plus. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can filter by budget, dates, and RV type to find a cheap RV rental West Park travelers love. Look for listings with unlimited mileage and generator hours included, especially if you're heading up to Sequoia or Yosemite.
visitcalifornia.com/places-to-visit/fresno/What license do I need to rent an RV in West Park, California?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in West Park. California does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes under 40 feet or trailers under 10,000 pounds, which covers nearly every rig on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform before your trip. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most guests are surprised how simple the paperwork is, so you can focus on planning the fun stuff like a Kings Canyon detour.

Yes, every RVezy booking in West Park comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included, so you can hit Highway 99 with peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, and you can choose from different coverage tiers at checkout to match the level of comfort you want. Roadside assistance handles flat tires, lockouts, jump starts, fuel delivery, and towing if something unexpected happens. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully at booking, the higher tier often costs only a little more for a lot more confidence on a long Sierra Nevada loop.

Booking feels low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not the individual host. Every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you confirm. After that window, your refund depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you in full or helps you rebook. RVezy support is available before, during, and after every trip if plans shift. Pro tip: book earlier rather than later so you lock in the RV you want for your West Park RV trip while still benefiting from the grace period flexibility.

Once you're on the road, your dog will love nearby spots like Woodward Park's dog park in north Fresno, the trails at Lost Lake Recreation Area along the San Joaquin River, and dog-friendly sites at Pine Flat Lake. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and a tie-out, because summer pavement in the Central Valley gets hot fast and shaded campsites fill up quickly.
fresno.gov/parksandrec/parks-facilities/woodward-park/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or address in West Park?
Yes, RV delivery West Park is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will deliver the rig straight to your campground, vacation rental, or driveway, level it, hook up power and water, and give you a full walkthrough so you never have to tow or drive a big vehicle yourself. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts who offer this service, then message them with your destination, whether that's Millerton Lake State Recreation Area, Pine Flat, or a backyard for an overnight glamping setup. Pro tip: delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location, so booking a host close to West Park can keep delivery costs low.

parks.ca.gov/?page_id=587When is the best time of year to rent an RV in West Park, CA?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for a West Park RV trip. From mid-March through May, daytime highs sit in the 70s and low 80s, wildflowers carpet the foothills, and the mountain parks are reopening for the season. September through early November brings dry, sunny days in the 70s to mid-80s, cool evenings around 50, and harvest season at local wineries. Summer (June to August) is hot, with highs regularly over 95 and often topping 100, so plan early-morning drives and shaded campsites with shore power for air conditioning. Winters are mild but foggy, and many high-elevation campgrounds close. Pro tip: book April or October for the best balance of weather, scenery, and availability.
weather.gov/hnx/fatmainI've never rented an RV before. Will I be comfortable driving one in West Park?
You'll do great, and West Park is actually one of the easier places in California for first time renting an RV. The Central Valley is flat, the roads are wide, and highways like 99, 41, and 180 are straightforward to navigate. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, hookups, generator, slides, tanks, and appliances, plus most provide a written cheat sheet. You can message your host anytime during the trip with questions. Prefer to skip driving entirely? Choose a delivery-only host. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first trip, they drive much like a large truck and parking at Lost Lake or Pine Flat is a breeze.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/What happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my West Park RV trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy rental in West Park includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is just a phone call away whether you're parked in town or boondocking near Shaver Lake. The service handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. RVezy support is also available before, during, and after your trip, and you can message your host directly for quick questions about quirks specific to their rig. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number and your host's contact info to your phone before you leave the driveway, and keep a paper copy in the glovebox in case you lose signal in the Sierra foothills.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my West Park RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state road trips are absolutely on the table. From West Park you can easily explore Nevada (Las Vegas is about 400 miles away, Reno about 290), Oregon, Arizona, and beyond. Many hosts welcome multi-state trips, just confirm by messaging them before you book so they can update mileage and confirm coverage. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental, since the protection package and roadside assistance don't extend across the border. Pro tip: popular interstate routes from West Park include Highway 395 up the Eastern Sierra to Mammoth and Tahoe, and Interstate 15 through the Mojave to Zion and the Grand Canyon.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripHow much should I budget for fuel on a West Park RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable on any RV trip, so here's the realistic math for West Park. California gas typically runs higher than the national average, often $4.50 to $5.50 per gallon in Fresno County. Class B campervans usually get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 mpg, and larger Class A diesel pushers get around 8 to 10 mpg. For a 500-mile loop to Yosemite and back in a Class C, budget roughly $175 to $250 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in West Park or Fresno before heading into the mountains, gas stations in Oakhurst, Sanger, and the park gateways often charge 50 cents to a dollar more per gallon.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book campgrounds near West Park?
Earlier is better, especially for the iconic spots. California State Parks like Millerton Lake open reservations up to six months in advance through ReserveCalifornia, and prime weekends sell out the moment that window opens. National park campgrounds in Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia book through Recreation.gov on a rolling five-month schedule and fill within minutes for summer dates. Fresno County parks like Lost Lake and Pine Flat take reservations by phone at least ten days ahead. Private parks such as Riverbend RV Park and Blackstone North are usually more flexible. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for the exact day reservations open six months before your trip, and have backup dates ready in case your first pick is taken.
reservecalifornia.com/What are local driving conditions like around West Park?
West Park sits in the flat Central Valley, which makes driving an RV refreshingly easy compared to coastal or mountain regions. Highway 99 and Highway 41 are the main arteries, both wide and well-maintained. Watch for two seasonal quirks: dense tule fog from November through February can drop visibility dramatically in the early morning, so delay departures until mid-morning when it lifts, and summer heat above 100 can stress tires, so check pressure before each driving day. If you're heading up to Sequoia or Kings Canyon, Highway 180 and 198 include steep grades and tight switchbacks where rigs over 22 feet are restricted in some areas. Pro tip: download offline maps before leaving West Park, cell service drops in the foothills.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities do campgrounds near West Park offer for RVs?
You'll find a great range. Full-hookup parks like Riverbend RV Park in Sanger and Blackstone North RV Park in Fresno offer 30/50 amp power, water, sewer at the site, Wi-Fi, and laundry. State and county campgrounds like Millerton Lake and Lost Lake Recreation Area typically provide water spigots, vault or flush toilets, dump stations, and some electric sites, but not always sewer at every spot. Free potable water and dump stations are also available at Millerton Lake's entrance area. Pro tip: if you're planning to dry camp at a high-elevation spot like Pine Flat or Wishon Village, top off fresh water and dump your tanks at Lost Lake on the drive in, it's the most convenient service stop heading east from West Park.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=24530What's included inside the RV: beds, kitchen, bathroom, Wi-Fi?
RVezy rentals in West Park come fully equipped so you can move in and start cooking dinner. Expect real beds (queens are standard, many rigs sleep 4 to 8), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and basic cookware, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower in most Class B, C, and travel trailer rentals, plus a dinette, climate control, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts include a generator, outdoor awning, BBQ, camping chairs, and a TV. Wi-Fi varies, some rigs have onboard hotspots, but Central Valley cell coverage is strong on most major routes. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities list and message the host if you need specifics like a CPAP-friendly outlet or a kid-safe bunk setup.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/educational-materials/fast-facts/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-ffdl-06/What add-ons and extras can I get with my motorhome rental West Park?
Hosts on RVezy offer a long list of helpful extras to customize your motorhome rental West Park experience. Common add-ons include linen and towel kits, kitchen and cooking kits, extra generator hours, bike racks, kayaks or SUPs, camping chairs and tables, portable BBQs, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on for first-timers. Mileage policies vary by host, with daily allowances typically between 100 and 200 miles and per-mile fees afterward, or RV rental with unlimited mileage on some listings. Pickup and drop-off times are set by the host and shown on each listing. Pro tip: bundling linens, kitchen kit, and delivery at booking often costs less than piecing them together later.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Park%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and fully handled through RVezy, never in cash to the host. You'll pay for your booking by credit or debit card at the time you confirm, which secures your dates and unlocks host messaging. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup and released after your trip once the host confirms the RV is returned in the same condition. Deposit amounts vary by RV and are shown on each listing. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick video of the RV inside and out at both pickup and drop-off in West Park, it's the easiest way to keep your full deposit and avoid any back-and-forth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I beat the summer heat on a Central Valley RV trip from West Park?
Smart planning makes summer in West Park totally manageable, even when highs push past 100. Book a rig with strong roof-mounted air conditioning and reserve campgrounds with 30/50 amp shore power so you can run AC all night without worrying about generator hours, places like Riverbend RV Park and Blackstone North are great picks. Drive early in the morning or after sunset when temperatures and traffic both drop, and aim for higher-elevation escapes: Shaver Lake (5,400 feet), Huntington Lake (7,000 feet), and Sequoia's Lodgepole Campground (6,700 feet) all run 20 to 30 degrees cooler than the valley floor. Pro tip: pre-cool the RV with shore power for an hour before bed, and park with the fridge side shaded.
