Campgrounds and RV parks near Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ

Beach days are the main draw: Avon-by-the-Sea, Belmar, Bradley Beach, and Point Pleasant Beach all sit within a few miles, with boardwalks, fishing piers, and surf breaks. The Shark River and Manasquan River offer paddling and light freshwater fishing close to camp. At Allaire State Park, families can combine outdoor recreation with living history. The park is best known for its historic 19th-century iron-making town, Allaire Village, and the Pine Creek Railroad, a narrow-gauge train ride. The Manasquan River winds through the park and provides freshwater fishing. Other activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, disc golf, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. Inland, Turkey Swamp Park has 4 playgrounds, a 17-acre lake for boating and fishing with boats available for rental, 8 miles of trails, open playfields, and large-group picnic facilities for rent. Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson is a common day-trip add-on.

The camping season on the central Jersey Shore runs spring through late fall, with summer as the clear peak. Public campgrounds have firm windows: Turkey Swamp Park's family campground is open from April 1 to November 15 and accommodates tents and travel trailers. Allaire State Park's family campground is open year-round, while group camping at Allaire runs April 1 to December 15. Tip Tam Camping Resort is open April 1 to October 31. Summer weekends and holiday stretches around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day book earliest, since beach traffic drives demand across every campground within an hour of the coast. Campsites, and especially shelters, fill fast for summer and holiday weekends, so booking at least three months in advance is recommended. Shoulder seasons trade crowds for cooler nights. Spring brings mild days and wet weather; fall offers foliage inland and quieter beach towns. Off-season RVers should note that Allaire's trailer sanitary station is closed mid-October to mid-April, and Turkey Swamp's water service typically runs mid-April to mid-November, so plan dumps and water fills accordingly.

Expect a mix of wooded and sandy inland sites with a short drive to the beach rather than beachfront RV camping. At Allaire State Park, sites are primarily wooded with a few in an open field, and each site includes parking, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Larger RVs should choose the open sites, since the road serving the partial and full shade campsites is narrow and wooded. Hookups vary. Turkey Swamp Park offers electrical service, water service, a self-serve sanitary dump station, and modern restrooms with hot showers and laundry. Tip Tam has 30 and 50 amp sites, sewer sites, modern restrooms, and hot showers. Pack for bugs, ticks, and sandy soil. Pets must be kept on a six-foot leash, and black bears are present in New Jersey parks, so follow posted bear safety protocols.
