Campgrounds and RV parks near Wanamassa, NJ

The Jersey Shore is the main draw. Asbury Park, Ocean Grove, Bradley Beach, and Belmar are all within a short drive, with boardwalks, surf breaks, and family beaches. Point Pleasant Beach adds an amusement pier and aquarium south along the coast. Allaire State Park is known for its historic 19th-century iron-making town, Allaire Village, and the Pine Creek Railroad, a narrow-gauge train ride operated by the NJ Museum of Transportation. The Manasquan River winds through the park and provides freshwater fishing, and a network of hiking and multi-use trails runs throughout the park. At Turkey Swamp Park, roughly 9 miles of multi-use trails let hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians move through pitch pine and oak woods while looking for wildlife, and a 17-acre lake offers fishing and boat rentals. Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson is roughly thirty minutes inland and is a common day trip from Tip Tam Camping Resort and other private parks in the area.

Camping season in this part of New Jersey runs mainly from April through October, with shoulder months bringing cooler nights and thinner crowds. Summer is peak: Jersey Shore towns swell with day-trippers, and inland campgrounds fill on weekends and holidays. Book well ahead for July and August, especially around holiday weekends. Public-park seasons vary. Allaire State Park campsites are scheduled to be open April 1 through December 15, with the trailer sanitary station running April 15 through October 15. Note that the family campsites and shelters have been closed recently for a capital improvement project, so travelers should confirm status with the park office before booking. Turkey Swamp Park campgrounds are open April 1 through November 15 and accommodate tents, travel trailers, and motor homes up to 40 feet. Private resorts follow a similar window and typically operate spring through fall. Spring can be wet and buggy near the Pine Barrens edge, and ticks are active from April through fall. Late September and early October usually offer the most comfortable conditions: warm days, cool nights, lower humidity, and lighter bookings.

Public campgrounds in this area lean rustic. Allaire has no hookups, but sites are close to the historic village and nature center. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers, and an RV dump station open mid-April to mid-October; sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Larger rigs should aim for open sites, as roads to the shaded sites can be narrow and wooded. At Turkey Swamp Park, all 64 campsites are pull-through with water and electric hookups and can accommodate motor homes up to 40 feet with up to six people. Amenities include modern restrooms with hot showers, laundry, a self-serve sanitary dump station, fire rings, and a playground. Private resorts such as Tip Tam offer full hookups, pools, and organized activities aimed at families. Black bears are present in New Jersey parks, so travelers should follow bear-safety protocols, and pets are allowed but must be kept on a six-foot leash.
