Campgrounds and RV parks near Afton, NY

Afton sits in the Southern Tier of New York along the Susquehanna River, roughly midway between Binghamton and Oneonta. The surrounding hills of Chenango and Broome counties hold a mix of state-run and privately operated campgrounds within a short drive of town, giving RV renters access to both hookup sites and rustic wooded loops. Oquaga Creek State Park, west of Afton in Masonville, is the closest state facility and centers on 55-acre Arctic Lake, with 90 campsites, seven rustic cabins, and a full-service cottage spread across roughly 1,500 acres. Nearby private options include Kellystone Park Campsite, Tall Pines Campground and River Adventures, Belden Hill Campgrounds, and Guestward Ho Family Campground, each catering to families and RV travelers with varying degrees of hookups, cabins, and on-site recreation. Most sites in the area are seasonal, opening in May and closing by mid-fall. The region works well as a base for river paddling, fishing, and day trips to Cooperstown, the Finger Lakes, or the western Catskills.

Oquaga Creek State Park is reserved through ReserveAmerica, either online or by phone at 1-800-456-2267. Campsites can be booked up to nine months in advance on a rolling window. From March 15 through Labor Day, new dates open at 8 a.m. Eastern on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends; outside that stretch the window opens at 9 a.m. daily. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, and campsite walk-ins are permitted when space allows. Private parks such as Kellystone Park Campsite, Belden Hill Campgrounds, Guestward Ho Family Campground, and Tall Pines Campground and River Adventures each handle their own reservations directly by phone or website. Summer weekends fill first, so booking six to eight weeks ahead is prudent for full-hookup RV sites.
