Campgrounds and RV parks near Cayuga Heights, NY

Waterfall hiking is the main draw. At Robert H Treman State Park, winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, and visitors can swim in a stream-fed pool beneath a waterfall. The park has nine miles of hiking trails, with the Gorge Trail and Rim Trail forming a loop covering both sides of Enfield Glen. Buttermilk Falls State Park offers a comparable but shorter gorge trail suited to families with younger kids. On Cayuga Lake, Myers Park has a swimming beach, boat launch, and marina access for paddling and fishing. Downtown Ithaca, Cornell, and the Cayuga Lake wine trail are within a short drive, giving RV travellers a rainy-day option beyond the trails.

The state park campgrounds run on a defined season. Robert H Treman State Park is open from mid-May through early November, with reservations strongly recommended for campsites and required for cabins. Buttermilk Falls follows a similar late-spring to early-November window. Private campgrounds near Trumansburg typically operate from mid-spring through Columbus Day. Summer is the busiest stretch. Crowding shifts with the season: summer weekends draw more day visitors to the gorge and swimming hole, while fall brings foliage and thinner crowds, though the swimming area closes by then. Swimming at Treman runs daily from late June to Labor Day weekend, subject to lifeguard availability and water quality. Reserve early for July and August weekends and for any date near Cornell parents' weekend or graduation. Winter camping options are limited. State park campgrounds close, water systems are shut down at private sites, and gorge trails may close or ice over. RV renters visiting between December and March should plan on shoulder-season private parks farther south or day trips from indoor lodging.

Sites in the state parks are wooded and set in gorge terrain, which affects RV maneuvering. Treman divides into two loops: an older loop with smaller, tree-shaded sites and electric hookups at sites 1 through 12, and a newer loop with a mix of open, grassy sites and more shaded options further out. Rigs should note that non-electric sites can involve tight turns between trees. Amenities are basic but functional. All sites have fire rings and a picnic table, and flush toilets and free showers are well-maintained. Cabins are rustic, with no bedding, no cookware, and no heat, and portable heaters of any kind are not permitted. Pets are allowed with rules. A maximum of two pets are allowed in campsites and day use areas, pets must be crated or on a leash not more than 6 feet in length, and proof of rabies inoculation must be produced at check-in.
