Campgrounds near Delhi, New York
Delhi sits in Delaware County in the western Catskills of New York State, along the West Branch of the Delaware River. The village is a practical base for RV travellers exploring the Catskill Forest Preserve, the Pepacton Reservoir, and trout streams such as the Beaverkill. Delhi experiences a humid continental climate marked by a very strong seasonal temperature contrast, with warm summers and cold winters, and precipitation spread relatively evenly through the year, though summer is the wettest season and winter is the driest.
Campground options within roughly an hour of town range from private RV parks with full hookups to rustic New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) sites in the forest preserve. Crazy Acres Campground at Beaver Spring Lake in Davenport is a nearby full-service option, while Bear Spring Mountain - DEC, south of Walton, offers a more wooded, minimal-amenity experience. Deer Haven Campground and Cabins and Susquehanna Trail and Campground, both near Oneonta, add family-oriented facilities within convenient driving distance. The Russell Brook Roadside Lot - DEC provides primitive roadside sites in the Delaware Wild Forest for travellers wanting a backcountry night before or after an RV stay.
Things to do around Delhi
Fly fishing is a signature draw. The Beaverkill and West Branch of the Delaware are within a short drive and are among the best-known trout waters in the eastern United States. The area around Bear Spring Mountain - DEC is known for its excellent hunting and fishing. Paddling and swimming are available at Launt Pond inside Bear Spring Mountain, where rowboat, canoe, kayak and paddle boat rentals are offered along with a picnic area, playground, horseshoe pits, volleyball, and pavilion rental.
Hikers can string together loops in the Delaware Wild Forest, including routes to Russell Brook Falls, Trout Pond, and Mud Pond, accessed from Russell Brook Road near the Russell Brook Roadside Lot - DEC.
Families staying at Susquehanna Trail and Campground or Deer Haven Campground and Cabins are within easy reach of Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, plus Otsego Lake and downtown Oneonta.

The camping season in the western Catskills is short and weather-driven. Most DEC campgrounds operate from mid-May through early September, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Bear Spring Mountain - DEC is a New York State campground operating from mid-May through late summer in the forested hills near Downsville. Summer weekends around Independence Day and around baseball tournaments in the Cooperstown area book out first at Deer Haven Campground and Cabins and Susquehanna Trail and Campground.
Spring brings mud, high water, and black flies in May and early June, but also strong stream flows for anglers. Fall is cooler and drier, with peak foliage typically in the first two weeks of October across the Catskills. Wildlife activity, including black bears, is highest in spring and fall, so food storage rules matter.
Winter closes almost all developed campgrounds. Months with snowfall in Delhi include January through May and October through December, and snow falls on roughly 85 days per year, totalling over 31 inches. Roads into DEC roadside sites such as Russell Brook may become impassable once snow arrives.
How to book
New York State DEC campgrounds are reserved through the state's ReserveAmerica system. Reservations can be made online or through the Reserve America Call Center at 1-800-456-2267, and can be made up to nine months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed until 5pm on the day of arrival at all DEC campgrounds, and walk-ins are not permitted. This affects Bear Spring Mountain - DEC.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings. Crazy Acres Campground at Beaver Spring Lake takes reservations directly through its own website. Deer Haven Campground and Cabins and Susquehanna Trail and Campground also book through their operator sites, so contact them well ahead of Cooperstown tournament weekends.
Most DEC campgrounds cap stays. A camping permit can be issued for a maximum of 14 nights, and from July 1 through Labor Day only 14 cumulative nights are permitted at any single campground.
What to expect on site
Full-hookup RV parks in the area lean family-oriented and modest. Crazy Acres Campground at Beaver Spring Lake is a family-friendly site in farm country with full hookups, a separate tenting area, restrooms, a swimming pool, shade trees, and open play areas. Susquehanna Trail and Campground offers full-hookup 30-amp RV sites in a country setting. Deer Haven Campground and Cabins offers full-service RV sites with water, electric, 50-amp, and sewer hookups, pull-through sites, tent areas, cabins, plus laundry, a pool, playground, fishing pond, and trails.
Bear Spring Mountain - DEC is more rustic, with 41 tent and trailer sites, firewood sales, a trailer dump station, boat launch, sand beach, and 24 miles of multi-use trails, plus restrooms and showers at the Launt Pond Area. No hookups. Cell service across Delaware County is spotty. Expect fire ring cooking, bear-aware food storage, and a strict 50-mile firewood-transport rule set by DEC.
