Campgrounds near East Ithaca

East Ithaca sits in Tompkins County on the southern end of Cayuga Lake, placing RV travelers within a short drive of several state park campgrounds and privately run RV parks in the Finger Lakes region. The area is defined by gorges, waterfalls, and lake access, with camping options ranging from primitive state park loops to full-hookup private resorts. Buttermilk Falls State Park sits on Route 13, south of Ithaca, and Robert H. Treman State Park is located in Tompkins County, along State Route 327. Both parks are operated by New York State Parks and offer campsites and cabins. For lakefront camping, Myers Park sits on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake, 10 miles north of Ithaca, on 31 acres of grass-covered, tree-shaded land with extensive Cayuga Lake frontage. Private options include Pinecreek Campground on 42 wooded acres 9 miles southwest of Ithaca and Spruce Row Campground on the ridge west of the lake, both offering full-hookup RV sites and cabins.

Things to do near East Ithaca

Waterfall hiking is the signature activity. Buttermilk Falls is a 165-foot cascade where Buttermilk Creek tumbles over a series of ledges into a natural swimming pool, and the gorge trail climbs alongside the creek past 10 waterfalls. At Robert H Treman State Park, winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, with a lifeguarded swimming area at the base of the Lower Falls. Cayuga Lake supports boating, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. A kayak, canoe, and stand-up paddle board rental facility is located within Myers Park, which also has a marina and boat launch. The Cayuga wine trail loops around the lake for day trips, and downtown Ithaca, Cornell University, and the Ithaca Farmers Market are all within a short drive of most area campgrounds.

The camping season in the Finger Lakes is short. State park campgrounds typically open in mid-May and close in early to mid-November. Robert H. Treman runs May 15 to November 7, with advanced reservations required for cabins and strongly recommended for campsites. The Buttermilk Falls campground runs from late May through early October, with fall foliage drawing visitors in September and October. Summer is the busiest window. July and August bring warm days, swimming at the falls, and full campgrounds on weekends. Sites can be more crowded during peak holiday periods like Independence Day. Booking early is essential for holiday weekends at all state parks. Fall brings foliage and thinner crowds, though swimming areas close before the campground does. Swimming is open daily, 11 am to 7 pm, from late June to Labor Day weekend. Winter and early spring are largely off-season for camping, though state parks remain open for day use.

Alexander was extraordinarily helpful and truly went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time. He responded quickly and was very pleasant to interact with. Perfect RV to rent for our family of 5. Plenty of sleeping space. Very clean RV!!! I chose the delivery option, which made it so easy. Alex showed up exactly when he said and set everything up for us. He was very thorough showing us how everything works, etc. I would 100 percent recommend this RV. We will be renting from him again in the future!

Anthony was excellent to communicate with. The Koala trailer filled out needs at the Pocano race weekend. Good mechanical, no leaks, hauled well behind my 1500 Denali. I'll look this one up again if we go to Pocano or The Glen.

How to book a site

New York State Park campgrounds use ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance. Reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Cabins require a 2-night minimum in non-peak season, with 3-night minimums on Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Columbus Day weekends, and a 7-night minimum during peak season. Myers Park camping is available on a first come, first serve basis and is town-run through Lansing Parks and Recreation. Private parks like Pinecreek Campground and Spruce Row Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and both fill on summer holiday weekends. Proof of rabies inoculation must be produced when checking into the campground if bringing a pet.
