Campgrounds and RV parks near Jacksonville, NY

Waterfall hiking is the headline activity. Robert H Treman State Park features the rugged gorge called Enfield Glen, with winding trails that follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, plus nine miles of hiking trails and a stream-fed pool beneath a waterfall. Buttermilk Falls, a 165-foot cascade, tumbles over ledges into a natural swimming pool, and the gorge trail climbs past 10 waterfalls. Cayuga Lake sits just east. Myers Park adds swimming, a marina, and boat launch access. Fishing, paddling, and wine-trail day trips fill out longer stays. Ithaca's downtown, Cornell, and the broader Finger Lakes wine region are all within easy driving range, which makes Jacksonville workable as a hub for family day trips without repacking the RV each morning.

The state park camping season runs from mid-May through fall. Robert H Treman typically opens from mid-May through early November, with reservations strongly recommended for campsites and required for cabins. Buttermilk Falls State Park runs a shorter season, roughly mid-May through mid-October, with reservations available up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica. Summer draws the biggest crowds and highest demand for waterfront and gorge sites. Late September through mid-October brings cool days, chilly nights, and foliage that turns the gorges gold and red, with thinner crowds and fewer bugs than summer. Summer allows swimming at designated areas but brings occasional water-quality closures. Winter freezes the falls into ice formations, though trails become treacherous and state park campgrounds are closed. Spring runoff makes the waterfalls dramatic but leaves trails muddy. Most private campgrounds in the area also close outside the April to October window.

Sites at the state parks lean rustic and wooded. Robert H Treman offers 72 campsites accommodating tents and RVs plus 14 rustic cabins, with picnic tables, fire rings, electric hookups at select sites, bathhouses with showers, and a dump station. The Buttermilk Falls campground has 25 wooded campsites accommodating tents or small camping units up to 20 feet, plus 18 rustic cabins that sleep 4-5 people each with no bedding, cookware, or heat. Rig size matters. RVs at Buttermilk Falls are limited to 20 feet, and sites sit close together with limited privacy. Spruce Row caters to larger rigs with full-hookup capacity. Bring layers, bug spray for summer, and non-slip footwear for gorge trails.
