Campgrounds near Spencer, New York
Spencer sits in Tioga County in New York's Southern Tier, roughly between Ithaca to the north and Elmira to the south. The area falls within the southern Finger Lakes region, so campgrounds near Spencer put RV travelers within short driving distance of gorge parks, Cayuga and Seneca lakes, and Finger Lakes wine country.
The closest state park campgrounds are clustered around Ithaca. Robert H Treman State Park lies south of Ithaca and centers on the Enfield Glen gorge and its 12 waterfalls, including 115-foot Lucifer Falls. Buttermilk Falls State Park, also south of Ithaca on Route 13, is built around a 165-foot cascade and a natural swimming pool at its base. Both parks offer campsites plus rustic cabins.
Private and smaller state options fill in the gaps. Pinecreek Campground provides another option for RV travelers south of Ithaca. Gardner Hill Campground and North - Newtown Battlefield State Park are grouped near Elmira, providing quieter, smaller-scale sites with easy access to I-86.
Things to do near Spencer
Waterfall hiking anchors most itineraries. The gorge trail at Robert H Treman State Park runs past 12 waterfalls, including 115-foot Lucifer Falls, and connects to nine miles of trails inside the park. Buttermilk Falls State Park adds another gorge trail past several waterfalls along Buttermilk Creek, with a natural swimming pool at the base of the main cascade and a lifeguarded season that typically runs late June through Labor Day.
Beyond the gorges, the Finger Lakes wine trails around Cayuga and Seneca lakes are within a short drive, along with boat launches, kayaking, and lake swimming. History travelers can walk the interpretive grounds at North - Newtown Battlefield State Park, site of an August 1779 Revolutionary War engagement, and take in Chemung Valley views from the hilltop monument.

The camping season in this part of New York is short and clearly defined. State park campgrounds around Ithaca and Elmira open in mid-May. Buttermilk Falls typically runs mid-May through mid-October, Newtown Battlefield mid-May through mid-October, and Robert H Treman from mid-May through early November. Private grounds such as Pinecreek Campground and Gardner Hill Campground open in spring and stay open into fall, weather permitting.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring the warmest weather, the busiest gorge trails, and the highest demand for cabins and electric sites. Weekend and holiday reservations at the state parks fill months out.
Shoulder seasons reward flexible travelers. Late May and early June are quieter but wetter, with waterfalls at strong flow after spring runoff. September and early October deliver cool nights, fall foliage across the hardwoods, and far fewer bugs, which is a real consideration at Newtown Battlefield, where reviewers routinely flag mosquitoes as an issue in midsummer.

How to book near Spencer
New York State Parks use a single reservation system. Robert H Treman, Buttermilk Falls, and North - Newtown Battlefield are all booked through ReserveAmerica online or by phone at 1-800-456-2267. Campsites can be reserved up to nine months in advance for a one-night minimum, and same-day reservations are accepted until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. Walk-ins are permitted at campsites only, not cabins.
Cabins have stricter rules. State park cabins require a two-night minimum in the off-peak season, three nights on Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Columbus Day weekends, and a seven-night Saturday-to-Saturday stay during peak summer weeks.
Private campgrounds such as Pinecreek Campground and Gardner Hill Campground book directly through the operator by phone or their own website, with separate holiday and cancellation policies.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Spencer, NY?
An RV rental in Spencer, NY is one of the more affordable ways to experience the Southern Finger Lakes. Travel trailers typically run about $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs go higher. Because Spencer sits in rural Tioga County rather than a tourist hub, hosts often price lower than what you would find closer to Ithaca or Watkins Glen. Many hosts also offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, shown clearly at checkout.

You'll need to be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly in, usually for under $20. That's it, no RV classes or test drives required. RVezy sets one standard cancellation policy that applies to every booking, so hosts do not define their own terms. There is a money-back grace period right after you book, giving you a window to confirm plans without overcommitting. After that, refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start. That removes any towing stress on winding Route 34 or Route 96. Delivery fees usually depend on mileage from the host's location, and some hosts include free delivery within a set radius. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see which rigs qualify. Ask your host to demo the awning and propane stove during setup so you are ready for sunset that night.

newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What is the best time of year for an RV trip in Spencer, NY?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for RV camping in Spencer. June and early September are the sweet spot, with daytime highs in the 70s to low 80s F, cool 50s F nights, and fewer crowds than peak July and August. Fall foliage from late September into mid-October is spectacular across Tioga County and the Finger Lakes, with maples and oaks turning brilliant red and orange, making it a bucket-list time for a Finger Lakes RV trip. Winters get genuinely cold with regular snow, so most hosts pause winter rentals or only offer rigs with heated tanks. Aim for a late-September weekend, the Owego Strawberry Festival in June, or harvest season at Seneca Lake wineries.

Avoid narrow gorge roads in Ithaca with low clearances if you're in a Class A. Pro tip: download the 511NY app for real-time road and weather alerts before heading out on your Finger Lakes RV trip.

Hosts often provide kitchenware, bedding, and outdoor chairs too. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Spencer%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Spencer, NY RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform, no cash and no awkward handoffs with the host. You pay with a credit or debit card when you book, and a refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV class) is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup, separate from the booking payment itself. As long as you return the RV in the same condition with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after your trip. Keep all communication, photos, and trip notes inside the RVezy app, that is your protection if any questions come up. Take a quick video walkaround at both pickup and dropoff in Spencer to make sure your full deposit comes right back.
