Campgrounds near Varna
Varna sits just east of Ithaca in Tompkins County, in the southern Finger Lakes region of New York. The hamlet is a practical launch point for RV trips into gorge country, with several campgrounds within a short drive along Route 13, Route 79, and the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake.
The closest options span two very different systems. Robert H Treman State Park features the Enfield Glen gorge with trails past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, and Buttermilk Falls State Park lies south of Ithaca with a lower-park campground near the base of its namesake cascade. Both operate through the New York State Parks reservation system.
Closer to the lake, Myers Park sits on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake with 31 acres of grass covered, tree shaded land and extensive Cayuga Lake frontage, run by the Town of Lansing. Private options include Spruce Row Campground and Pinecreek Campground, both aimed at RV families with hookups and on-site activities.
Things to do near Varna
The core draw is gorge hiking. Robert H Treman offers winding trails past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, plus nine miles of hiking trails and a stream-fed pool beneath a waterfall, while Buttermilk Falls centers on a 165-foot cascade where Buttermilk Creek tumbles into a natural swimming pool, with a gorge trail climbing past 10 waterfalls. Both parks include lifeguarded swimming areas that open in summer.
On the water, the Marina at Myers Park provides boat slip rental, dry dock storage and boat launching facilities, making it a base for paddling, fishing, and powerboating on Cayuga Lake. Downtown Ithaca, Cornell University, and the Cayuga Lake wine trail are all within a short drive, giving families a mix of trail days, lake days, and town days from a single basecamp.

The camping window in this area is short. Robert H. Treman State Park runs from mid-May through early November, with advanced reservations required for cabins and strongly recommended for campsites, and Buttermilk Falls follows a similar mid-May through mid-October schedule. Private parks generally run from spring through mid-fall on comparable calendars.
Summer is peak. Weekends in July and August fill quickly at the state park campgrounds, driven by day-use visitors coming for the gorge trails and swimming holes. Fall brings foliage and fewer crowds, though the swimming area closes by then, while summer weekends draw more day visitors to the gorge and swimming hole.
Shoulder-season trips in late May or September trade warm swimming for cooler hiking weather and easier reservations. Winter camping is not offered at the nearby state parks or the town park; trails remain accessible for day use where posted, but campground facilities are closed and water is shut off.

How to book near Varna
State park sites near Varna go through one system. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival, and reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267. Reservations for campsites may be booked 9 months in advance for a 1-night minimum stay. Cabins carry longer minimums, especially on holiday weekends and during peak summer.
Myers Park is booked through the Town of Lansing's own online recreation system, separate from ReserveAmerica. Private parks such as Spruce Row and Pinecreek Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, book as far ahead as the system allows; midweek stays are much easier to secure on short notice.
What to expect near Varna
State park campgrounds here are traditional and wooded, with picnic tables, fire rings, and centralized bathhouses. Robert H Treman offers 11 electrical hook-up sites and 61 no utility hook-up sites for RVs, and Buttermilk Falls skews smaller and more rustic. Non-electric sites can involve tight turns between trees, so larger rigs should confirm site dimensions before booking.
Myers Park leans toward simpler RV camping on the lake. Water hookups and WiFi are available, generators are allowed, and there is a 35-foot RV maximum. Expect cell service throughout the area, grocery and fuel stops in Ithaca, and firewood available on-site or nearby. Bears are uncommon but raccoons are active, so food should be stored inside the RV overnight.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Varna, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Varna, NY?
RV rental in Varna, NY is more affordable than you might think, with most travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $175 to $275 per night. Because Varna sits minutes from Ithaca and Cornell University, prices can spike during graduation weekend in late May, Cornell move-in in August, and peak Finger Lakes leaf-peeping in October. To save, aim for weekday pickups in June or early September when wineries are still busy but demand drops. Pro tip: bundle a 4 to 7 night booking, since many hosts offer weekly discounts that can shave 10 to 20 percent off your total.

You'll need to be 25 or older, and you'll verify your ID quickly through the RVezy app during booking. Visiting from overseas? rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Varna RV trip plans change?
Booking your Varna, NY RV rental is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not the host, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book. That means if a Cornell event reschedules or a Finger Lakes storm rolls in, you have flexibility built in. The policy factors in how far ahead you cancel, and if a host cancels you receive a refund or credit. You can review the full details on RVezy's Help Center during checkout. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates and your refund window.

Late September and early October bring stunning fall foliage and crisp 50 to 65°F days, ideal for winery hopping along Cayuga Lake. Winters get genuinely cold with January averages around 16 to 30°F and significant lake-effect snow, so most public campgrounds close from November through mid-April. weather.gov/bgm/I'm first time renting an RV in Varna, NY. How does it work?
First time renting an RV in Varna, NY is easier than most people expect. Your host meets you at pickup (or delivers the RV directly to your site) and walks you through every system: slide-outs, water tanks, generator, propane, and dump procedures. You can text or call them throughout your trip with questions, and 24/7 roadside assistance is just a phone call away. For your first drive, stick to wider routes like Route 13 or NY-79 rather than narrow Cornell-area side streets. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first trip, since they are easier to maneuver than a 35-foot Class A on Tompkins County's rolling hills.

RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of the assistance number and tape it to the dash so it is handy even where cell signal drops in the deeper Finger Lakes valleys.

iloveny.com/places-to-go/finger-lakes/What's realistic fuel mileage and gas budget for an RV in Varna, NY?
Budgeting fuel for your Varna, NY RV trip is straightforward once you know what to expect. Class B campervans typically get 16 to 20 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, and larger Class A rigs run 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but usually drop your truck's mpg by 30 to 40 percent. eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Varna, NY?
For peak summer and fall weekends, book state park campgrounds near Varna, NY as early as possible: New York State Parks open reservations up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and Robert H. Treman, Buttermilk Falls, and Taughannock Falls all fill quickly for Friday and Saturday nights from June through mid-October. Cornell graduation weekend (late May) and the early-October foliage peak are the toughest dates. Private parks like Spruce Row and Finger Lakes RV Resort tend to have more midweek availability. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday to Thursday) are dramatically easier to snag and often quieter at the gorges.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What are driving conditions like around Varna and the Finger Lakes?
Driving an RV around Varna, NY is very manageable once you know the local quirks. Route 13 and Route 366 are the main wide, RV-friendly arteries connecting Varna to Ithaca, Dryden, and Cortland. The Finger Lakes terrain is rolling with some steep grades, especially descending into downtown Ithaca on East and West Hill (use lower gears). Avoid narrow Cornell campus streets and the tight switchbacks on some lakeside back roads. Winter brings lake-effect snow from Cayuga Lake from November through March, so most renters stick to mid-April through October. Pro tip: download offline maps before you go, since cell service drops in some of the deeper gorges and state forests.

New York State Parks like Buttermilk Falls and Taughannock Falls typically offer electric hookups (no water or sewer at the site), modern restrooms with hot showers, and centrally located dump stations. Private parks like Spruce Row Campsite and Finger Lakes RV Resort offer full hookups with 30 and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and often WiFi and pools. For potable water and dumping on the road, the Robert H. Treman dump station is reliable and open seasonally. Pro tip: arrive with full freshwater tanks if you're heading to a state park, since on-site spigots can be a walk from your loop.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Varna,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Varna, NY?
Payment for your RV rental in Varna, NY is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and released after a successful return inspection. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff, take photos and video of the interior, exterior, and tanks, and return the RV with fuel and propane levels matching pickup. Pro tip: dump and rinse holding tanks before return at the Buttermilk Falls or Treman dump stations to skip any cleaning fees.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I prepare for cold-weather RV camping in Varna, NY?
Shoulder-season RV camping in Varna, NY is absolutely doable and seriously rewarding once the fall colors hit. From mid-September through October, nighttime temps can dip into the 30s and 40s°F, so look for listings with heated holding tanks, a working furnace, and proper insulation; just filter and message hosts on RVezy to confirm. Most state park campgrounds close by mid-October, but Taughannock Falls stays open until October 16 and private parks sometimes extend later. Bring extra propane, a small space heater for shore-power sites, and warm bedding. Pro tip: park your RV with the slide-outs facing south at Taughannock for warm morning sun off Cayuga Lake.
