Campgrounds near Avon, Pennsylvania
Avon is a small community in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, positioned between Hershey to the west and Lancaster to the southeast. The surrounding Lebanon Valley sits in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, a rolling agricultural region that supports a dense cluster of private RV parks and family campgrounds within a short drive of the city.
Most RV travelers base themselves here to reach Hersheypark, Hershey's Chocolate World, Amish country attractions, and the state capital in Harrisburg, all within roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive. Closer to Avon itself, riders and hikers use the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail, and families visit Mount Gretna, Union Canal Tunnel Park, and Cornwall Iron Furnace.
Campground options near Avon lean heavily toward private, full-service resorts rather than state or federal parks. PA Dutch Country RV Resort, Pinch Pond Family Campground, Camp Swatara, Hershey RV and Camping Resort, and Starlite Camping Resort are the closest properties, offering full hookups, pools, and family programming during the warm-weather season.
Things to do near Avon
Hersheypark is the dominant regional draw, combining roller coasters, a water park, and ZooAmerica. Nearby, Hershey's Chocolate World runs its free tour ride, and Hershey Gardens features a butterfly atrium and themed landscapes. Hershey Bears hockey and concerts at the Giant Center run through the cooler months.
Outside the theme parks, families ride the paved Lebanon Valley Rail Trail, swim and paddle at Mount Gretna Lake, and tour Cornwall Iron Furnace, a preserved 18th-century ironworks. Lancaster County's Amish farmland, markets, and buggy tours sit about 30 minutes south.
Day trips from Avon reach Gettysburg battlefield and the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg, both within about an hour. Campgrounds in the immediate area typically add on-site pools, mini-golf, stocked fishing ponds, and organized weekend activities.

The RV season in the Lebanon Valley runs primarily from mid-April through late October. Most private campgrounds near Avon operate on a seasonal calendar and either close or drop to limited services in winter, so travelers arriving between December and March should confirm availability directly before booking.
Summer is the peak window. School vacation, Hersheypark's full operating schedule, and warm evenings drive the heaviest demand from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Weekends around Independence Day and during Hersheypark in the Dark in October tend to fill months in advance. Daytime highs commonly reach the mid-80s Fahrenheit, and humidity is high.
Spring and fall are quieter and often more comfortable. May and June bring wildflowers and moderate temperatures, while September and October deliver cool nights and fall foliage across the ridges around Mount Gretna. Late-season travelers should expect some campground amenities, such as pools and water parks, to close after Labor Day.

How to book campgrounds near Avon
Private campgrounds near Avon accept reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Larger resorts, including Hershey RV and Camping Resort and PA Dutch Country RV Resort, typically open bookings for the following season in late fall or winter. Prime summer weekends, holiday weekends, and dates aligned with Hershey events sell out first, so reserving eight to twelve weeks ahead is prudent.
Renters should confirm rig length limits, slide clearance, and hookup type (30 vs 50 amp) when booking. Many parks require a deposit at reservation and enforce cancellation windows of one to two weeks.
For state parks in the wider region managed by Pennsylvania DCNR, reservations run through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations system and open up to 11 months in advance.
What to expect near Avon
Campgrounds in the Avon area are predominantly full-service private resorts rather than backcountry sites. Expect paved or gravel pads, water, electric, and sewer hookups at most sites, plus Wi-Fi, laundry, and camp stores. Family-oriented properties like Pinch Pond Family Campground and Starlite Camping Resort schedule weekend activities, hayrides, and themed events through summer.
Terrain is gently rolling farmland with mixed hardwood buffers, so sites are generally level and easy to navigate for larger Class A and fifth-wheel rigs. Cell service is reliable across the valley.
Biting insects, particularly mosquitoes, are active from late spring through early fall, and afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August. Deer are frequent on rural roads, so drivers should be cautious at dawn and dusk when moving between campgrounds and attractions.

visitlebanonvalley.com/stay-with-us/campgrounds/What license do I need to rent an RV in Avon, PA?
Good news: a regular Pennsylvania (or any U.S./Canadian) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Avon, PA. PennDOT does not require a special RV license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for motorhomes or trailers used recreationally by private drivers. You'll need to be at least 25 years old to book on RVezy, and we'll verify your ID securely through the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork shuffle at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the whole verification step is.
pa.gov/agencies/dmv/driver-services/driver-licensing.htmlIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included in Avon, PA?
Yes, every RV rental in Avon, PA booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. You choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host), so you can pick the peace of mind that fits your trip. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your rental, while roadside assistance supports flat tires, lockouts, jump starts, and towing across Pennsylvania. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides real financial protection so you can focus on Lebanon Valley back roads and Hersheypark fun. Review plan details before booking so you know what is covered.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Avon, PA RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy platform-wide, not the individual host, and it is not displayed in each listing. There is a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund, and after that, refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host has to cancel on you, RVezy provides a refund or travel credit so you can rebook another RV near Avon. If your plans shift, contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Avon, PA?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Avon options are easy to find. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see motorhomes and travel trailers from local hosts who welcome dogs. Many Lebanon County campgrounds, including Hershey Road Travel Trailer Park and Jonestown KOA, allow leashed pets, and Memorial Lake State Park about 10 minutes from Avon has shaded trails perfect for dog walks. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees. Pro tip: downtown Hershey has several outdoor patios where pups are welcome too.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/memorial-lake-state-park.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Avon, PA?
Yes, RV delivery Avon is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig. Filter listings by Delivery and you will see hosts who will tow or drive the RV to your driveway, a Lebanon County campground, or a state park such as Memorial Lake. They level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location. Pro tip: delivery plus pickup makes a Hersheypark family trip almost effortless.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Avon%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow do mileage policies work and how far can I drive from Avon, PA?
Mileage is straightforward: each host sets a daily mileage allowance (often 100-150 free miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is great for a longer Pennsylvania road trip. From Avon, you're perfectly positioned: Hersheypark is about 20 miles west, Lancaster's Amish Country is roughly 30 miles south, Gettysburg sits about 60 miles southwest, Philadelphia is around 90 miles east, and the Poconos are about 100 miles northeast. Check the listing's mileage policy before booking and message the host if you're planning a bigger loop. Pro tip: filter for unlimited-mileage listings if you want zero math during your trip.
penndot.pa.gov/travelinpa/Pages/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Avon, PA for an RV trip?

Jonestown/Hershey North KOA is a riverside favorite with kayaking and fishing. Shady Oaks Campground in Newmanstown is a peaceful Central PA pick with spacious sites. Eagle's Peak RV Park in Robesonia adds heated pools and mini-golf for families. For state-park RV camping, Memorial Lake and nearby Swatara State Park offer quieter, nature-first stays. Pro tip: reserve Hershey-area sites 3-4 months ahead for summer weekends.
koa.com/campgrounds/hershey/When is the best time of year for an Avon, PA RV trip?
Late April through mid-October is prime time for an Avon, PA RV trip, with the sweet spots being May, June, September, and early October. Summer (July-August) delivers warm days in the mid-80s, perfect for Hersheypark and lake swimming, but it is also the busiest and priciest. Fall brings cool 50-70 degree days, vivid foliage across the Lebanon Valley, and Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire weekends. Spring offers blooming farmland and fewer crowds. Most local campgrounds close November through March. Pro tip: book a late-September trip to combine warm weather, harvest festivals, and shoulder-season pricing.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV. Is renting in Avon, PA still a good idea?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Avon is easier than you'd guess, especially in this part of Pennsylvania where roads are wide and rural traffic is light. Every RVezy host gives a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, water, propane, and dumping, so you're never left guessing. For total beginners, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Avon listing rather than a 35-foot Class A, or pick a host who delivers and sets up at your campground. The Lebanon Valley's mix of country roads and easy interstates (I-78, I-81, US-422) is forgiving for new drivers. Pro tip: message the host with your itinerary and they'll tip you off to any tight turns.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if something breaks down during my Avon, PA RV trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat on US-422, run out of fuel near Hershey, or have a mechanical issue at your campsite, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a quick message away for quirks specific to their RV, like resetting a generator or troubleshooting the fridge. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip if you need to escalate anything. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave the host's driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate for fast reference.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Avon, PA RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, most hosts happily allow interstate travel, and an RV road trip from Avon opens up an incredible region. You can easily reach Maryland's Chesapeake Bay (about 2 hours), New York's Finger Lakes (about 4 hours), Niagara Falls (about 6 hours), and Washington D.C. (about 2.5 hours). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the insurance terms, so message the host directly to confirm before booking if Canada is on your list. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance won't cover it. Pro tip: a 7-day loop through Gettysburg, D.C., and the Shenandoah Valley is a knockout from Avon.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat's realistic for fuel costs on an Avon, PA RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is easy once you know the numbers. Class C motorhomes in this area average 8-10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 15-20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10-14 MPG combined). Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average due to state fuel taxes, so plan on roughly $3.40-$3.90 per gallon for regular and a touch more for diesel. A weekend Avon-to-Hersheypark-to-Lancaster loop (about 120 miles round trip) in a Class C will run roughly $50-$60 in fuel. Pro tip: GasBuddy consistently shows the best prices at Sheetz and Rutter's stations across Lebanon County.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Avon, PA?
For summer weekends and Hersheypark-adjacent campgrounds, book 3-4 months ahead. Pennsylvania state park sites at Memorial Lake, Swatara, and nearby French Creek release reservations through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system (visitpaparks.com), and popular weekends fill within days of opening, especially July 4th and Labor Day. Private parks like Hershey RV & Camping Resort and Jonestown KOA take bookings directly through their websites. For shoulder-season trips in May or late September, 3-4 weeks of lead time is usually plenty. Pro tip: if you strike out on a Saturday night, try splitting your stay between two parks - midweek availability across the Lebanon Valley is very forgiving.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/reservations.htmlWhat are driving conditions like around Avon, PA?
Driving in and around Avon is generally relaxed and RV-friendly. You'll mostly travel on US-422, PA-72, and I-81, all of which are wide, well-maintained, and easy for motorhomes and travel trailers. Avoid low-clearance covered bridges in Lancaster County (signs are clearly posted) and use truck-friendly routes around downtown Hershey during peak Hersheypark traffic on summer weekends. Winter can bring snow and ice from December through February, so if you're renting in those months, ask the host about tire chains and check PA 511 before driving. Pro tip: PennDOT's 511PA app shows real-time construction and weather closures across the Lebanon Valley.
511pa.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Avon, PA usually have?
Most campgrounds in the Avon area are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Private parks like Hershey RV & Camping Resort, Jonestown KOA, and Eagle's Peak offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer), 30/50-amp service, WiFi, hot showers, laundry, and on-site dump stations. Many also include pools, playgrounds, and camp stores. Pennsylvania state parks such as Memorial Lake and Swatara typically offer electric-only sites with shared water spigots and centralized dump stations rather than full hookups at each site. You can top off fresh water at any campground's potable fill before checkout. Pro tip: if your RV's tanks are smaller, book a full-hookup site so you never have to break camp to dump mid-trip.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/memorial-lake-state-park.htmlWhat's typically included inside an RV rental in Avon, PA?
You will be impressed by how turn-key these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental Avon listing includes a full kitchen (fridge, stovetop, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4-8 people, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, dining seating with seatbelts for travel, and often a TV. Many hosts add WiFi hotspots, generators for off-grid stays, outdoor chairs, and full kitchen kits with pots, plates, and coffee makers. Linens, towels, and propane are commonly included, but always confirm in the listing. Pro tip: family RV trip Avon planners should look for outdoor kitchens and bunk beds, perfect after a long day at Hersheypark.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Avon%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available when you rent an RV in Avon, PA?
Hosts offer a great menu of extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons include linen and towel packages ($25-$75), kitchen kits, outdoor furniture, bikes, kayaks, generators, propane refills, portable WiFi, and even pre-stocked groceries. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Avon, but many offer delivery to local campgrounds, hotels, or Harrisburg International Airport (about 25 miles west). One-way rentals are possible with some hosts - just message before booking to ask. Pickup and return are typically 24-hour windows you coordinate directly. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a generator means you can roll into a state park site and start relaxing immediately.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Avon, PA?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy's platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV, and it is released after a successful return with no damage or policy issues. To avoid hiccups, do a thorough walkaround video with your host at pickup, respect the mileage and generator-hour allowances, and return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement. Pro tip: photograph the odometer, fuel gauge, and any existing scuffs at pickup, it makes the return process stress-free.
