Camping near Belfast, Pennsylvania
Belfast is a small community in Northampton County in eastern Pennsylvania, positioned between the Lehigh Valley and the southern edge of the Pocono Mountains. The area sits at the base of Blue Mountain and puts campers within a short drive of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a roughly 70,000-acre National Park Service unit that follows about 40 miles of the Delaware River along the Pennsylvania and New Jersey border.
RV travelers use Belfast as a base for both Lehigh Valley attractions and Pocono outdoor recreation. Private campgrounds in the immediate area include Evergreen Lake Campground in Bath, Camp Charles Campgrounds and Hickory Lake Campground near Bangor, Silver Valley Campsites in Saylorsburg, and Pocono Vacation Park closer to Stroudsburg.
Most sites in the region are private, family-owned parks offering full hookups, wooded settings, and family amenities. The mix of nearby state parks, national recreation land, and private RV parks lets travelers pair a hookup-friendly base with day trips into more rugged terrain.
Things to do near Belfast
The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is the primary outdoor draw. Visitors hike more than 100 miles of trails, paddle the Delaware River, fish for trout and smallmouth bass, and swim at designated beaches such as Smithfield and Milford. About 27 miles of the Appalachian Trail pass through the recreation area, with lookouts over the river gap.
Waterfalls are a common day-trip target. Raymondskill Falls, at roughly 150 feet, is the tallest in Pennsylvania, and Bushkill Falls features walkways and bridges over a series of cascades. Closer to camp, Evergreen Lake has a 25-acre stocked lake with license-free fee fishing, boat rentals, mini golf, and a swimming beach, which makes it a good rainy-day fallback for families.
Stroudsburg and the greater Pocono area add water parks, outlet shopping, and rail trails within a short drive.

The Belfast area has four distinct seasons. Summer, from June through August, is warm and humid with average highs in the low 80s Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. This is peak camping season: private campgrounds run their full activity schedules, pools are open, and weekends fill quickly. Booking eight or more weeks ahead is common for holiday weekends.
Fall is popular for foliage. October weekends in the Pocono region fill fast, and Pennsylvania state park campgrounds nearby often book up many months in advance for peak color. Days are cool and nights get sharp, so heat and full water hookups matter for late-season stays.
Spring brings mud, cool nights, and steady rain, but also the start of the season for private parks, most of which reopen in April or May. Winter camping is limited in this region because most private campgrounds close from late fall through early spring, though a few Pocono parks, including Pocono Vacation Park, operate year-round.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

Great holiday weekend in Dalton's camper! He was an amazing host, and everything was as described. We had the camper delivered and picked up by Mike, who was also awesome! Thanks for a great weekend!
Stephanie H. - Sep 2026
Dalton's Jayco is the perfect option for a small family. There's plenty of sleeping options for the kids, and the tub is a great bonus for bath time. The camper is well maintained and everything was functional. Delivery and pick up to the site went smoothly. We're hoping it's available next year too!

How to book
Private campgrounds near Belfast take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and October foliage weekends, reserving eight to twelve weeks ahead is a safe target, and holiday weekends often require earlier action. Many parks require a two-night minimum on Saturdays.
Pennsylvania state park campsites, including those in the broader Pocono region, are handled through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations system on ReserveAmerica or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Most state park campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, with a noon Eastern Time release on the day sites open.
Dingmans Campground, the developed campground inside Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area on the Pennsylvania side, is operated by a concessioner and booked directly through dingmanscampground.com rather than Recreation.gov. Peak-season sites should be reserved as early as possible.
What to expect on arrival
Private campgrounds in the Belfast area lean toward wooded, family-oriented layouts. Evergreen Lake Campground sits on 300 acres at the base of Blue Mountain in Bath with roughly 250 shaded sites, modern restrooms with hot showers, electric, cable, water, and sewer hookups, a swimming beach, and weekend activities. Hickory Lake Campground and Camp Charles Campgrounds offer similar tent and RV setups closer to Bangor, and Silver Valley Campsites is a nearby option in Saylorsburg.
Pocono Vacation Park near Stroudsburg is a year-round option with full-hookup sites, a pool, mini golf, rec hall, and cabin rentals. Sites at some Pocono parks are known to be uneven, so leveling blocks are worth packing.
Cell coverage varies. Interior forest roads inside Delaware Water Gap NRA can be spotty, so download maps and reservation confirmations before leaving pavement.
