Campgrounds near Blakely, Pennsylvania
Blakely sits in the Lackawanna Valley in northeastern Pennsylvania, a short drive from Scranton and within reach of both the Endless Mountains and the western edge of the Pocono Mountains. RV travelers use the borough as a base to access state park camping, private lakeside resorts, and wooded family campgrounds within a 30 to 45 minute radius.
The closest public option is Lackawanna State Park, a 1,445-acre park in northeastern Pennsylvania located ten miles north of Scranton. Private options in the surrounding area include Highland Campgrounds in Dalton, Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort in Waymart, Shady Rest Campground in the Endless Mountains, and Benton Hills Mobile Home Park.
The area suits families and first-time RV renters. State park sites offer electric hookups and lake access, while private resorts add full hookups, pools, and organized activities. Interstate 81 runs directly past Blakely, making access to campgrounds north toward Binghamton and east into the Poconos straightforward.
Things to do near Blakely
Water recreation anchors most trips. Lackawanna Lake, a 198-acre lake at the center of the state park, is surrounded by picnic areas and multi-use trails, with boating, fishing, mountain biking, and swimming as popular activities. Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort sits on a 90-acre spring-fed mountain lake with lake and pool swimming and fishing for bass, bluegill, perch, pickerel, and crappie.
Off-water options include Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, the Electric City Trolley Museum, and hiking in nearby Lackawanna State Forest. Fall foliage draws visitors to the Poconos to the east from late September into October.
Winter travelers can pair a stay at Shady Rest Campground with skiing at Elk Mountain, a short drive away. Highland Campgrounds in Dalton offers a quieter wooded base with paddling and biking nearby.

The main camping season in the Blakely area runs from mid-spring through mid-fall. The campground at Lackawanna State Park opens the second Friday in April and closes October 14, with a maximum stay of 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day and 21 consecutive nights during the rest of the year. Most campgrounds in the Scranton area operate from mid-April through mid-October, with limited winter options.
Summer weekends and holidays fill quickly, especially at lakefront sites. Spring shoulder season brings cool nights, muddy trails, and lighter crowds. Fall delivers strong foliage color through the Poconos and Endless Mountains, with peak color typically in early to mid-October.
Winter narrows the options considerably. Shady Rest Campground offers a wooded setting that positions it as a possible base for skiers heading to Elk Mountain. Most private resorts and the state park campground close by mid-October and do not reopen until spring.
How to book campgrounds near Blakely
State park sites are booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system operated by ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Bookings can also be arranged by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday.
Private campgrounds book directly through their own websites or by phone. Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort, Highland Campgrounds, and Shady Rest Campground each take reservations directly, and calling ahead is recommended for pull-through sites or specific hookup requests.
Summer weekends, holiday periods, and fall foliage weekends should be booked several weeks to several months out. A phased shower house renovation at Lackawanna State Park's campground affects some loops on a rolling basis, so verify site availability at time of booking.
What to expect on-site
Sites in the area lean wooded. Lackawanna State Park offers tent sites including walk-in options, RV sites with electric hookups, cabins, and yurts. Some campers note that pads in the Carpentertown loop can be tight and not perfectly level, so smaller rigs may fare better in that section. A sanitary dump station is near the campground entrance, and restrooms with warm showers and drinking water are provided.
Private resorts add more amenities. Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort offers cottages, RV rentals, a park model, glamping tents, tent sites, and RV sites, many located along the lakefront, with 20, 30, and 50 amp service and cable available on some sites.
Plan for spotty cell service and firewood rules. Bringing firewood into Pennsylvania is prohibited and could result in a citation, so buy firewood locally or on-site.

You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform before pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Booking your Blakely RV trip is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a full money-back grace period right after you book, so you can lock in a great rig without stress. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip you cancel and special circumstances like severe weather, which northeastern Pennsylvania does occasionally see in winter. Full details and refund timelines are spelled out clearly on RVezy's Help Center and inside your booking confirmation. Pro tip: reserve early to snag the best Lackawanna County rigs, knowing the grace period has your back.

Pennsylvania state parks, including nearby Lackawanna State Park, allow leashed pets at designated pet-friendly campsites, and Promised Land State Park in the Poconos has pet-friendly loops too. Bring proof of rabies vaccination, a 6-foot leash, and a tie-out for the campsite. Pro tip: the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail runs right through Blakely and is a fantastic spot for morning dog walks before you hit the road for the day.

Yes, and it is the easiest way to start your trip. RV delivery in Blakely is offered by many hosts on RVezy, who will tow or drive the rig directly to Lackawanna State Park, Keen Lake Camping & Cottage Resort, or another nearby campground, then level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system. That means no white-knuckle first drive with a 30-foot trailer, no learning to back into a wooded site, and no setup confusion. Filter for 'Delivery' on the listing page to see hosts who offer it, along with their delivery range and any per-mile fees. Perfect for first-time renters.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Blakely%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow far can I travel on an RV trip from Blakely?

Want a bigger adventure? The Catskills are 90 miles north, Niagara Falls is around 270 miles northwest, and the Outer Banks are about 450 miles south. Each host on RVezy sets their own mileage policy, so filter for 'RV rental with unlimited mileage' if you're planning to log serious miles. Pro tip: I-81 and I-380 make leaving Blakely straightforward in any direction.

Reserve Pennsylvania state park sites through the official reservation system up to 12 months ahead, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage season.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Blakely?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for RV camping Blakely fans rave about, but each season has its own magic. June through August brings warm days (highs in the 80s°F) perfect for swimming at Lackawanna Lake. Late September to mid-October delivers spectacular fall foliage across the Endless Mountains, with crisp 60s°F days. Spring (May) is quieter and greener with fewer crowds. Winter dips into the 20s°F with regular snow, so most campgrounds close mid-October through mid-April. Pro tip: the second weekend of October is peak leaf-peeping in Lackawanna County, so book your motorhome rental Blakely at least three months ahead for that window.
weather.gov/ctp/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You have got this. First time renting an RV in Blakely is genuinely easier than people expect, especially with RVezy's hands-on approach. Every host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving tips, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, waste tanks, and how to level the rig. You can message your host before booking with any question, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan if anything comes up on the road. Start with a smaller Class C or travel trailer for confidence, and pick a nearby destination like Lackawanna State Park for your first night so the learning curve is short. Pro tip: choose a host who offers delivery and you can skip the driving entirely on trip one.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
You are never alone out there. Every RV rental in Blakely from RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-81, a dead battery at Promised Land State Park, or a tow back from Ricketts Glen is handled with a single phone call. RVezy's support team is reachable around the clock before, during, and after your trip, and your host is typically just a message away for quick mechanical questions. Pro tip: snap photos of your dashboard, tires, and slide-outs at pickup so any issue is documented from minute one. Then relax and enjoy the drive.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Blakely RV rental into New York or other states?
Yes, interstate travel is welcomed on most RVezy rentals, and Blakely's location near the New York border makes it ideal. From here, you can comfortably cross into the Catskills (90 miles), Watkins Glen (3 hours), or down to the Jersey Shore (2.5 hours) without issue. The one hard line: travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental due to insurance limitations. Travel to Canada may be permitted depending on the host's policy and protection package, so message the host directly before booking if you're eyeing Niagara Falls Canada or beyond. Pro tip: Pennsylvania's I-81 corridor is a launchpad for everything from Vermont fall colors to Virginia Beach.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on my Blakely RV trip?
Fuel budgeting for an RV rental in Pennsylvania is easier than you'd think. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A rigs hover around 6 to 10 MPG, and Class B campervans can hit 18 to 22 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run $3.30 to $3.90 per gallon in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre region. A 200-mile weekend loop to Promised Land State Park and back in a Class C will run roughly $60 to $90 in fuel. Pro tip: skip the pricey I-81 truck-stop pumps and refuel at Sheetz or Wawa stations along Route 6 or Route 11 closer to Blakely for the best per-gallon savings.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Blakely?
Earlier is better, but you have options. For Pennsylvania state park campgrounds like Lackawanna and Promised Land, reservations open up to 12 months ahead through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, and summer weekends often book up by March. For private parks like Keen Lake or Pioneer Campground, 2 to 3 months ahead is usually safe. Fall foliage weekends in October sell out fastest, so book by mid-summer. Pro tip: if you find Lackawanna State Park full, check Salt Springs State Park in Susquehanna County or Frances Slocum State Park near Wilkes-Barre, both about 40 minutes from Blakely and frequently overlooked by visitors.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Blakely?
Driving an RV around Blakely is more relaxed than most metro areas. Local roads like Main Street, Business Route 6, and the Casey Highway (Route 6) are wide and easy to navigate. I-81 and I-380 are well-maintained interstates that connect you to the Poconos and beyond. Watch for two things: low-clearance railroad bridges in the older boroughs of Olyphant and Dickson City (your GPS RV mode will route around them), and steep, winding stretches when you head into the Poconos on Route 590 or 191. Winter brings snow and occasional black ice between November and March. Pro tip: avoid the Scranton I-81/I-84 interchange during rush hour (4 to 6 p.m.) and your drive south will be smooth sailing.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Blakely?
Pennsylvania campgrounds make RV life easy. At Lackawanna State Park you'll find electric hookups (20, 30, and 50 amp), a centralized dump station, potable water fill, modern flush restrooms in warmer months, and clean shower houses. Private parks like Keen Lake offer full hookups (sewer, water, and 50-amp electric) plus Wi-Fi, camp stores, and laundry. Promised Land State Park has full-hookup sites at the Pickerel Point loop. Pro tip: not every state park site has water at the pad, so fill your freshwater tank at the entrance station before heading to your spot. Dump stations are free for registered campers, and you can find one in Blakely itself at most full-service truck stops along I-81.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat features and amenities come with most RV rentals in Blakely?
You'll be impressed by how home-like your campervan rental Blakely or motorhome ends up feeling. Most rentals on RVezy come with a queen or king bed, fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, cookware), bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette that converts to sleeping, AC and furnace, and a TV. Larger Class A and Class C rigs typically include a generator for off-grid power, awning, and seatbelted seating for 4 to 7 passengers. Wi-Fi is offered by some hosts as an add-on. Filter by sleeps count and RV type to match your group. Pro tip: many Blakely-area hosts include essentials like bedding, kitchen kits, and outdoor chairs free of charge, so check the listing's 'What's Included' section before adding extras.
pa.gov/agencies/penndot/driver-and-vehicle-services/vehicle-services.htmlWhat add-ons and pickup options can I choose from?
Hosts make customizing your trip simple. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Blakely include portable generators ($30 to $60/night), bike racks, kayaks, outdoor patio mats, firewood bundles, propane refills, and pet cleaning fees if you're bringing the dog. Pickup is straightforward at the host's location in or near Blakely, usually with a 30-to-60 minute orientation walkthrough. Many hosts also offer delivery to Lackawanna State Park, Promised Land, or even your driveway. Mileage policies vary: some offer unlimited, others include 100 to 150 miles per day with a small overage fee. Pro tip: book a Friday afternoon pickup and Sunday evening return to maximize your weekend without paying for an extra night.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks.htmlHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is seamless and protected. When you book your RV rental in Pennsylvania on RVezy, your payment runs securely through the platform, and a refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig) is held during your trip. It is released back to your card within a few days of return, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left. To avoid hiccups: return on time, refill the fuel and propane to the levels you received them, empty the waste tanks at a dump station, and give the interior a quick clean. Pro tip: walk through the RV with your host at both pickup and return, taking date-stamped photos, and your deposit will come back fast and full.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Blakely during the winter?
Yes, and a winter RV adventure here can be magical. While most Pennsylvania state park campgrounds (including Lackawanna State Park's main campground) close from mid-October through mid-April, several private parks and full-hookup sites near Blakely stay open year-round. Look for RV rentals with heated holding tanks, a strong propane furnace, and shore-power readiness to handle nights that can dip into the teens Fahrenheit. Use the RV in heated mode while parked, drain external water lines when on the move, and bring extra propane. Pro tip: Lackawanna State Park's trails stay open all winter for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing on Lackawanna Lake, making for a quiet, gorgeous off-season family RV trip in Blakely.
