Camping near Blue Ball, Pennsylvania
Blue Ball sits in eastern Lancaster County along Route 322, in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The village is a practical base for RV travelers exploring Amish farmland, covered bridges, and the market towns of New Holland, Intercourse, and Bird-in-Hand. Downtown Lancaster is roughly a 20-minute drive west, and Hershey lies about 40 minutes northwest.
The surrounding countryside is dense with private RV parks rather than state or federal campgrounds. French Creek State Park sits about 30 minutes east and is described by DCNR as the largest block of contiguous forest between Washington, DC and New York City, with miles of multi-use trails, two lakes, and a swimming pool open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area is a shorter drive north for waterfowl viewing.
Closest to Blue Ball are Spring Gulch RV Campground, Lancaster / New Holland KOA Journey, Red Run Campground, Beacon Hill Camping, and Woodcrest Retreat, all within a short drive of local attractions and grocery stops.
Things to do near Blue Ball
The area is built around Pennsylvania Dutch culture and rural touring. Visitors commonly drive the back roads between Intercourse, Bird-in-Hand, and Strasburg for farm markets, quilt shops, and buggy traffic. The Strasburg Rail Road and Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania are family staples, and Dutch Wonderland amusement park sits just east of Lancaster city.
Outdoor options are within easy reach. Money Rocks County Park in Narvon offers leashed hiking with sweeping Welsh Mountain views, and French Creek State Park has trails, lakes, and boat rentals in season. Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area draws birders, especially during snow-goose migration.
Hershey, Longwood Gardens, and Gettysburg are all reachable as day trips from a Blue Ball basecamp.

Peak RV season in Lancaster County runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, with a strong second wave in September and October for fall foliage and harvest events. Weekends between mid-June and mid-August book out early at family-oriented parks such as Spring Gulch RV Campground and Lancaster / New Holland KOA Journey, and holiday weekends often fill months in advance.
Spring is variable. April and May bring blooming farmland and moderate temperatures, but overnight lows can still dip near freezing in early spring. This is a good window for weekday and last-minute stays before school lets out.
Winter operations are limited. Several private parks close or reduce services from late fall through early spring, while a few keep a portion of hookup sites open for cold-weather campers. Winters in southeastern Pennsylvania are cold and snowy, and cross-country skiing and ice fishing are available at French Creek State Park when conditions allow. Confirm winter status directly with each park before booking.

How to book a campsite near Blue Ball
Most campgrounds around Blue Ball are privately owned and take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Spring Gulch RV Campground, Red Run Campground, Beacon Hill Camping, and Woodcrest Retreat all handle bookings this way, and Lancaster / New Holland KOA Journey is also bookable through the national KOA reservation system.
For summer weekends and any Amish Country festival dates, reserve two to three months out at minimum, and earlier for pull-through and full-hookup sites. Cancellation windows vary by park, and some require a deposit at booking.
For state land, French Creek State Park sites are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, available up to 11 months in advance.
What to expect on the ground
Lancaster County roads are narrow, winding, and shared with horse-drawn buggies, especially on Sundays and around New Holland, Intercourse, and Blue Ball itself. Larger Class A motorhomes and long fifth wheels should plan routes carefully and avoid shortcuts through Amish farm lanes.
Private campgrounds here lean family-focused, with pools, playgrounds, mini-golf, and weekend activity schedules in summer. Full hookups, Wi-Fi, and laundry are common at the larger resorts, while smaller parks like Red Run Campground and Beacon Hill Camping tend to be quieter and more rural.
Most local campgrounds welcome leashed pets, but it is worth messaging the park ahead if traveling with multiple pets or a large breed. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the county.

discoverlancaster.com/where-to-stay/camping-and-rv-parks/When is the best time of year to take an RV trip from Blue Ball?
Blue Ball shines from mid-April through late October, with truly magical windows in May (lilacs and farm fields in bloom) and late September through mid-October when the foliage explodes across the Welsh Mountains and temperatures hover in the comfortable 55-75°F range. Summer (June-August) brings warm 80-90°F days, perfect for campground pools but busy on weekends. Winter RVing is possible but chilly, with January lows around 22°F, so confirm the rig has a furnace and heated tanks if you're booking December through February. Insider tip: the week after Labor Day is the sweet spot, quieter campgrounds, lower rates, and harvest season at every farm stand.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be just fine, and you're far from alone. The vast majority of guests booking RV rental Pennsylvania-wide are first-timers, and every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, awning, generator, and dump procedures. Around Blue Ball, the roads are forgiving: Route 23 and Route 322 are flat, well-marked, and easy for beginners, though you'll want to watch for horse-and-buggy traffic in Amish areas (slow down, pass with care, and enjoy the view). If you're nervous, book a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet, or skip driving entirely with host delivery. Your host is just a text away during the whole trip.

pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Blue Ball?
Driving around Blue Ball is mostly easygoing, but there's one twist worth knowing: this is the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, so you'll share Route 23, Route 322, and Route 897 with Amish horse-and-buggy traffic, especially Saturdays and weekday mornings. Slow down on hills and blind curves, pass only when you have a long clear view, and never honk. Roads are generally flat to gently rolling, well-paved, and free of mountain passes. The Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) is 15 miles north for highway travel. Avoid driving big rigs through downtown Intercourse or Bird-in-Hand at peak tourist hours; instead, use Route 23 east-west. Winter brings occasional snow; check PennDOT's 511PA before traveling December through March.

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy's platform with a credit or debit card when you confirm your booking, with no cash, checks, or off-platform transfers (and those are never recommended). A refundable security deposit, separate from the booking payment, is placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after a successful return. To keep your deposit safe, do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and drop-off with your host, follow the mileage and generator-hour policies, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks at a dump station before returning (or pay the host's dump fee).
