RV camping near East Bangor, Pennsylvania
East Bangor sits in the Slate Belt of northeastern Pennsylvania, near the southern end of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and within a short drive of the Pocono Mountains. The location gives RV renters access to riverfront campgrounds along the Delaware, wooded family parks in the Poconos, and quieter rural sites in the hills west of the river.
Close-in options include Camp Charles Campgrounds and Hickory Lake Campground, both within the Bangor area and geared toward tent and RV camping with hookups. Pocono Vacation Park lies a short drive north for travelers who want to base themselves closer to Pocono attractions, while Delaware River Family Campground and Driftstone on the Delaware put visitors directly on the water for paddling and fishing.
Bangor, Stroudsburg, and East Stroudsburg supply groceries, fuel, propane, and RV repair within about 30 minutes, making the area a practical staging point for longer Pocono or Delaware Valley trips.
Things to do near East Bangor
The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is the main draw, protecting roughly 40 miles of the middle Delaware River and about 70,000 acres of land along the Pennsylvania and New Jersey shores. Canoeing, kayaking, tubing, and smallmouth bass fishing are popular on the river, and the Appalachian Trail crosses the region along Kittatinny Mountain with day-hike access from several trailheads.
Bushkill Falls, a privately operated series of eight waterfalls known as the Niagara of Pennsylvania, sits a short drive north. Families with kids often add CamelBeach water park, the Pocono Snake and Animal Farm, or the outlets and flea markets around Stroudsburg. Historic Millbrook Village inside the national recreation area offers a low-key alternative for a rainy afternoon.

Most private campgrounds in the Bangor and Delaware Water Gap area operate seasonally, typically opening in April and closing in October. A handful, including Pocono Vacation Park, stay open year-round, but winter RV options are limited and water systems are commonly shut off during freezing months.
Late spring through early fall is the practical RV window. June through August brings warm, humid weather with average highs in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms; weekends around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day fill early and often require multi-night minimums. River levels for paddling are usually best from May into July.
September and early October offer cooler nights, lighter crowds, and strong fall color in the ridges above the Delaware. Late-fall trips should plan around hunting seasons on state game lands and shorter daylight hours, and any November stay may run into freezing overnight lows.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

How to book a campsite
Private campgrounds around East Bangor, including Camp Charles Campgrounds, Hickory Lake Campground, Pocono Vacation Park, Delaware River Family Campground, and Driftstone on the Delaware, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and holiday periods sell out weeks in advance, so booking two to three months ahead is advisable for July and August.
Campsites within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area are limited. Dingmans Campground, the main drive-in option with water and electric RV sites, is run by an NPS concessionaire and books directly through dingmanscampground.com. Boat-in river camping along the middle Delaware is intended for paddlers on multi-day trips and requires following NPS river-camping rules.
When reserving, confirm the site can accommodate the RV rental length, slide-outs, and hookup type, since older riverfront parks often have narrow or short pull-ins.
What to expect on-site
Campgrounds in the region range from full-hookup RV parks with pools and camp stores to rustic riverside sites with only water and electric. Terrain along the Delaware is generally flat and shaded, while sites in the Pocono foothills west of the river tend to be more wooded and sloped, so leveling blocks are useful.
Cell coverage is inconsistent in the gap and along the river corridor, with Verizon typically the strongest carrier and other networks patchy. Highway noise from Interstate 80 reaches some riverfront parks near the water gap itself, so travelers seeking quiet should ask about site location relative to the road.
Black bears, raccoons, and deer are common. Food and coolers should be stored inside the RV overnight, and campfires are permitted in provided rings when no local burn ban is in effect.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near East Bangor, PA
How much does an RV rental in East Bangor, PA typically cost?
An RV rental in East Bangor, PA is often more affordable than traditional Pocono lodging. In the Slate Belt region, travel trailers typically run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $300, and larger Class A motorhomes sit between $250 and $450. You can find a cheap RV rental East Bangor option by booking midweek (Sunday through Thursday), traveling in shoulder months like April or October, and choosing an older travel trailer with delivery instead of pickup. Many local hosts also offer weekly discounts, which is ideal if you are settling in near the Delaware Water Gap for a longer stay.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Bangor%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in East Bangor, PA?
For nearly every motorhome, campervan, and travel trailer listed on RVezy, your regular Pennsylvania Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in East Bangor. PennDOT only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles over 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating, and most rentals fall well below that threshold. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and your ID is verified securely through the booking flow. Visiting from out of state or abroad? A valid home-country license, paired with an International Driving Permit when applicable, works for most rentals. Verification is typically quick and can be completed from your phone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs protection included when I rent an RV in East Bangor, PA?
Yes. Every East Bangor RV trip booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on Route 512 or Interstate 80 with confidence. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your rental, which is reassuring on the twisty Pocono backroads. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, with higher tiers offering lower out-of-pocket costs if an incident occurs. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection for your motorhome rental East Bangor adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my East Bangor RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy across all listings, rather than letting individual hosts set their own rules. The policy outlines clear conditions for refunds based on how far in advance you cancel, so the experience is consistent whether your plans shift due to work, a Pocono snowstorm, or a named weather event. Booking earlier rather than later is helpful for popular Bangor-area summer weekends and fall foliage dates, as the best rigs tend to go quickly before events like Musikfest in nearby Bethlehem.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I find a pet-friendly RV rental in East Bangor, PA?
Yes. Many hosts in the East Bangor and Slate Belt area welcome pets. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see motorhomes and trailers that allow dogs (and sometimes cats). Once you find a pet-friendly RV rental East Bangor listing you like, message the host before booking to share your pet's size and breed so expectations are aligned. Local pet-friendly outings are great, too: Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center near Wind Gap allows leashed dogs on its trail network, and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area welcomes leashed pets at most overlooks and beaches. Bring waste bags and a portable water bowl for the Appalachian Trail vistas.
nps.gov/dewa/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway near East Bangor?
Yes. RV delivery East Bangor is one of the most convenient features of booking peer-to-peer, especially if you've never towed a trailer or driven a 30-foot motorhome. Many local hosts will drive the rig to your campground, vacation rental, or driveway, level it, connect water and electric, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Popular delivery destinations include Driftstone on the Delaware in Mount Bethel, Otter Lake Camp Resort in the Poconos, and private properties throughout Northampton and Monroe counties. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see who offers it, and ask about a setup-and-pickup package so you can simply arrive, unpack, and start enjoying your Slate Belt getaway.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Bangor%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow many miles can I drive on my East Bangor RV rental?
You have real range to work with. Most East Bangor hosts include between 100 and 150 free miles per night, and many offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage for an added flat fee, which is helpful for a longer East Bangor RV trip. For a sense of distance: Delaware Water Gap is about 15 miles away, Jim Thorpe is roughly 45 miles, Philadelphia sits about 75 miles south, New York City is around 80 miles east, and the Finger Lakes are about 200 miles north. Extra miles typically run about $0.30 to $0.45 each beyond your included allowance. Map your rough route before booking and message the host with your mileage estimate so they can recommend the right package.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Bangor%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near East Bangor, PA?
You've got some gems within a short drive. Driftstone on the Delaware in Mount Bethel (about 10 miles north) offers riverfront sites with full hookups and tubing right from camp. Otter Lake Camp Resort in East Stroudsburg (roughly 25 miles) is a four-season favorite with two pools and a private lake. Mount Pocono Campground sits about 35 miles away with shaded sites and family programming, and Dingmans Campground inside Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area offers a more rustic, riverside RV camping East Bangor experience. For state-park lovers, Hickory Run State Park is about 50 miles away with 381 campsites. Book Driftstone and Otter Lake early; summer weekends fill up by April.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/HickoryRunStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in East Bangor, PA?
East Bangor is enjoyable in three out of four seasons. Late April through October is the peak window, with daytime highs ranging from the mid-60s in spring to the mid-80s in July and crisp days in the 60s in October. Fall foliage from late September into mid-October is a local favorite as the Slate Belt and Delaware Water Gap fill with red and gold maples, and campgrounds tend to be quieter midweek. Summer is warm and humid but rarely extreme, and winter rentals are available for travelers chasing snowy hikes near Big Pocono State Park. Book foliage weekends well in advance, as leaf-peepers from New York and Philadelphia reserve the best rigs early.
weather.gov/phi/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work in East Bangor?
First time renting an RV in East Bangor is easier than most people expect because every host provides a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery. They will show you how to use the propane stove, hook up water and electric, dump the tanks, extend the awning, and operate the heater or AC. You can also message the host with questions before booking; many are seasoned RVers who enjoy helping newcomers. Start with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (20 to 25 feet) for easy maneuvering on Route 191 and the winding roads near Blue Mountain. Many beginners book a two-night shakedown at Driftstone on the Delaware before tackling a longer trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180454-RentersWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked outside East Bangor or camping near Promised Land State Park. If you experience a flat tire on Route 512, get locked out at a trailhead, or have a battery issue at the Delaware Water Gap, roadside assistance can dispatch service directly. For mechanical or appliance questions, your host is your first call because they know the rig well. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip, so you are never out there alone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my East Bangor rental on a multi-state road trip?
Yes. East Bangor is a strong launchpad in the Northeast for a multi-state RV road trip from East Bangor. Most hosts welcome travel throughout the continental U.S., and popular routes include heading north to the Finger Lakes (about 4 hours), east to the Jersey Shore (about 2 hours to Long Beach Island), south to Shenandoah National Park (about 5 hours), or northeast to Acadia National Park in Maine (about 10 hours). Travel into Canada may be allowed with advance approval from the host so insurance and customs documentation can be arranged, so message them before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage does not extend there. Confirm your route in your booking notes so everyone is aligned.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how should I budget?
Plan ahead and you'll stay comfortably on budget. Class B campervans typically average about 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes about 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A motorhomes about 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers do not burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle's fuel economy generally drops by 25 to 40 percent when hitched. Pennsylvania gas prices in the East Bangor area typically run in the mid-$3 range per gallon, with diesel often slightly higher. For a long weekend covering 250 miles in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 for fuel. Fill up at the Wawa or Sheetz on Route 512 before heading into the Poconos, as prices often climb once you are inside resort areas.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near East Bangor?
Earlier is always better, especially for summer and fall foliage weekends. Pennsylvania State Park campgrounds like Hickory Run, Promised Land, and Tobyhanna open reservations through the state's reservation system, and prime weekends often book out quickly. Private parks like Driftstone on the Delaware and Otter Lake usually open spring and summer bookings in winter. For a flexible East Bangor RV trip, midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are far easier to grab, even last-minute. Federal campgrounds at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area book through Recreation.gov. If you are booking late, set up cancellation alerts on Recreation.gov, as spots open up daily, especially within two weeks of arrival.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around East Bangor?
East Bangor sits in gentle Slate Belt terrain, so driving is generally friendlier than deeper in the Poconos. Route 512 and Route 191 are well-paved two-lane roads with moderate grades, which works well for first-time RV drivers. Interstate 80 (about 10 miles north) is the main east-west artery and handles RVs easily, though watch for truck traffic near the Delaware Water Gap toll bridge. In winter, the Pocono Plateau can see snow and icy patches, so check PennDOT's 511PA system before heading north on Route 33. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can roll in quickly off Blue Mountain. Avoid driving Route 209 through the Delaware Water Gap at dusk, as deer activity spikes and the road narrows considerably between Bushkill and Milford.
511pa.com/What amenities do campgrounds near East Bangor offer?
You'll find an excellent range, from full-hookup convenience to back-to-nature simplicity. Private parks like Driftstone on the Delaware and Otter Lake Camp Resort offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, swimming pools, camp stores, and on-site propane refills. Pennsylvania State Parks such as Hickory Run and Promised Land typically offer electric sites with potable water spigots and centralized dump stations rather than per-site sewer. Most parks in the region have free dump stations for registered guests, and several private parks sell ice and firewood at the office. Top off fresh water before leaving any park, as the next reliable fill on Route 191 north is at Tobyhanna State Park, about 30 miles up the road.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat's included inside a typical East Bangor RV rental?
You will feel at home from the moment you step inside. Most East Bangor rentals come with a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes, utensils), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the rig, a dinette, climate control (furnace and roof AC), and seatbelts for travel passengers. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, an awning, and outdoor camp chairs. Cellular and Wi-Fi coverage can be spotty in the Poconos, so some hosts include a cellular hotspot. Generators are common on Class A and C rigs for off-grid trips. Check the listing's amenities and message the host about linens, towels, and starter propane; many include them, some charge a small add-on.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Bangor%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for my rental?
You'll find a great menu of options to customize your trip. Common East Bangor host add-ons include linens and bedding packs ($25 to $75), kitchen and cookware kits ($25 to $50), generator use ($25 to $50 per day), bikes, kayaks, camp chairs and tables, propane refills, and portable grills. Delivery and setup typically runs about $2 to $5 per mile from the host's home base, with some hosts offering free delivery within a set radius. Pickup is usually at the host's home, often near East Bangor, Wind Gap, or Bangor. Mileage allowances vary by host, with most including 100 to 150 free miles per night. Bundle linens and a generator if you are heading somewhere remote like Worlds End State Park.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Bangor%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in East Bangor, PA through RVezy, you pay directly on the platform with a credit or debit card, and your funds are held safely until your trip begins. A security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment, rather than charged outright. As long as you return the RV in the agreed-upon condition with the correct fuel level and tanks handled per the host's instructions, that hold is released after your trip. Do the walkthrough carefully, take photos at pickup and dropoff, and keep all communication inside the RVezy app for a smooth, documented experience.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from East Bangor, PA?
You're sitting on one of the most scenic launch points in the Northeast. Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is about 15 miles away with waterfalls, swimming holes, and Appalachian Trail access. Jim Thorpe (about 45 miles) offers Victorian charm and the Lehigh Gorge. Philadelphia (about 75 miles) opens up history and food, while New York City is about 80 miles east for a campground-and-train combo. For bigger adventures, the Finger Lakes wineries are about 200 miles north (around 4 hours), and Niagara Falls is roughly 320 miles or 6 hours away. For a quick family RV trip East Bangor weekend, head about 30 miles to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for raptor watching. Visit the Delaware Water Gap on a weekday in October for foliage without the crowds.
