Camping near Egypt, Pennsylvania
Egypt is a small census-designated place in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, located about 7 miles north of Allentown in the Lehigh Valley. It sits at the western edge of the Lehigh River corridor, within easy reach of the Pocono Mountains to the north and the Appalachian Trail along Blue Mountain. The area works well as a base for RV renters who want suburban conveniences close at hand plus quick access to lakes, state parks, and family attractions.
RV options nearby span destination resorts and short-stop parks. Allentown KOA Journey in New Tripoli offers full-hookup and water/electric sites plus cabins on a wooded property with a stream. Don Laine Campground in Palmerton and Evergreen Lake Campground in Bath sit near the base of Blue Mountain and lean toward longer family stays, while Moyers Lake and Campground and Pocono Point RV & Campground push north into the Poconos.
Most travelers reach Egypt via I-78, US 22, and PA 145, making it a practical staging point for day trips to Philadelphia, New York City, and Amish Country.
Things to do near Egypt
Family attractions cluster in and around Allentown. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom draws crowds for roller coasters and wave pools, and the Crayola Experience in Easton, Lehigh Valley Zoo, and the Da Vinci Science Center round out rainy-day options. The Troxell-Steckel House, an 18th-century Pennsylvania German stone home in Egypt itself, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Outdoor plans center on Blue Mountain and the Lehigh River. The Appalachian Trail crosses the ridge just north of town, and Beltzville State Park near Lehighton offers swimming, boating, and fishing. Evergreen Lake and other private campgrounds hold stocked ponds with warm-water species and trout. Allentown KOA Journey has an on-site hiking trail, a pool, a mining station, and Saturday hayrides for younger kids.

The prime RV window runs from late April through mid-October. Many private parks in the area, including Don Laine Campground and Evergreen Lake Campground, operate on a spring-to-fall season and close for winter, so late-season trips need confirmation before booking. Allentown KOA Journey keeps sites open for extended shoulder-season stays, though hours and services scale back outside the summer.
Summer is peak season. July is the warmest month, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and high humidity. Sites at family-oriented parks fill weeks ahead for Fourth of July, and a two-night minimum applies to weekend reservations at Pennsylvania state parks during the summer season.
October brings the strongest color across the Poconos and Blue Mountain, and Pocono-region campgrounds fill up for every fall-foliage weekend. Winter is cold with frequent snow and occasional ice storms; most private campgrounds shut down, and state park sites remain reservable up to eleven months out.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

Booking and reservations
Private campgrounds in the area take reservations directly. Allentown KOA Journey books through the KOA site and phone line. Don Laine Campground, Evergreen Lake Campground, Moyers Lake and Campground, and Pocono Point RV & Campground each handle bookings through their own websites or by phone, and several sell out seasonal sites well before the summer opening.
Pennsylvania state parks and forests, including nearby Beltzville and Hickory Run, use a single reservation system. Most sites can be reserved eleven months in advance to noon of the arrival day, released at noon Eastern Time, and a limited number of first-come, first-served sites are available. Call 888-PA-PARKS or use the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations site.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a mix of suburban approach roads and wooded, hillside campgrounds. Family parks in the area typically offer full hookups with water, electric, and sewer, plus pools, playgrounds, game rooms, and weekend activities. Allentown KOA Journey is a 40-acre property with 17 cabins, water/electric and full-hookup RV sites, a pool, a game room, and Saturday hayrides in an alcohol-free setting; a stream runs the length of the property.
Most private parks accept big rigs, but check length limits before booking a large fifth wheel, since some full-hookup sites at the KOA are sized for units under 35 feet. Pennsylvania state parks ask campers to buy firewood locally rather than transport it, to limit the spread of forest pests. Cell coverage is reliable near Allentown and thins in the Blue Mountain and Pocono areas.
