Elizabethtown sits in northwestern Lancaster County, roughly midway between Harrisburg and Lancaster and within a short drive of Hershey. The area is a practical base for RV travelers heading to Hersheypark, Amish Country, the Pennsylvania Farm Show complex, and Gettysburg. Private RV parks dominate the local inventory, and most sit on gently rolling farmland with easy access from U.S. Route 30 and Route 283.
Options closest to town include Hershey Road Campground, a family-owned park with full-hookup RV sites, rustic log cabins, a heated pool and splash pad, mini golf, and a fishing pond. Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday and Hershey RV and Camping Resort round out the private-park options west of the theme park.
Slightly farther out, Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground offers tent and RV camping near a former quarry now used for scuba diving, while Hersheypark Camping Resort sits closest to the theme park with resort-style amenities and free front-gate shuttle service.
Things to do near Elizabethtown
Hersheypark anchors most itineraries, with more than a dozen roller coasters, a water park, and ZooAmerica, an 11-acre wildlife park featuring bears, wolves, alligators, and big cats native to North America. Guests staying at Hersheypark Camping Resort get free front-gate shuttle service and extra evening hours through the Preview Plan.
Beyond the park, families visit the Milton and Catherine Hershey Conservatory with its year-round indoor Butterfly Atrium, Hershey Gardens with more than 5,000 roses in summer, and The Hershey Story museum. Lancaster's Amish Country lies about 30 minutes south, and Gettysburg is roughly an hour west. Anglers can fish stocked ponds at several local campgrounds, and scuba divers head to the Bainbridge quarry.

Outdoor pools at Hersheypark Camping Resort open seasonally, generally from late spring through Labor Day weekend.
Summer is peak. Weekends near Hersheypark sell out weeks ahead, humidity is high, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Late spring and early fall bring milder daytime temperatures, thinner crowds, and easier reservations. Early fall is typically the wettest stretch of the year, and October brings foliage color to the surrounding ridges.

How to book campgrounds near Elizabethtown
Nearly all campgrounds in this corridor are privately owned and take reservations directly through their own websites or through platforms like KOA, Good Sam, and Hipcamp. Hersheypark Camping Resort books through the official Hershey Entertainment portal and often bundles theme-park tickets into camping packages, including the Christmas Candylane package on select dates from mid-November into early January.
For summer weekends and any date tied to a Hersheypark event, book several months out. Holiday weekends fill fastest. Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground and other smaller parks take phone reservations and generally require deposits. Check cancellation windows before booking, since private-park policies vary widely.
What to expect
Sites in this area are typically level gravel or grass pads with 30- and 50-amp service, full or partial hookups, and cable at some resorts. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Elizabethtown,%20PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Elizabethtown, PA?
Good news for first-timers: a regular Pennsylvania Class C driver's license (the standard automobile license) is all you need for nearly every RV on RVezy in Elizabethtown. PennDOT only requires a non-commercial Class A or Class B license for rigs over 26,000 pounds GVWR, and the Class B and Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and campervans most renters choose fall well below that. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and ID verification happens right inside the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included when I rent in Elizabethtown?
Yes. Every RV rental in Elizabethtown booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers damage to the RV at the coverage level you select during checkout, so you can match peace of mind to your Pennsylvania RV trip. If you get a flat on Route 283 or need a jump start at the Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA, one call gets help on the way. Coverage details, limits, and deductibles are explained on the RVezy protection page so there are no surprises before you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Elizabethtown plans change?
Booking is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you have time to confirm time off work or coordinate with family. After that, your refund depends on how close you are to your trip start date, and special circumstances may apply. The full, current policy is published in the RVezy Help Center and applied automatically to your booking, so you'll always know exactly where you stand before you confirm your Elizabethtown rental.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Elizabethtown?
Absolutely. Many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Elizabethtown, and you can filter listings on RVezy with the Pet-Friendly filter to see only those rigs. Once booked, you'll find Pennsylvania state parks like Gifford Pinchot and French Creek allow leashed pets at designated campsites, and private parks near Hershey are generally dog welcoming. Bring vaccination records, a sturdy leash for campsite tie-outs, and a collapsible water bowl. Insider tip: the rail-trail behind downtown Elizabethtown is a flat, shaded leg-stretcher pets love after a travel day.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Elizabethtown?
Yes, and it's a game-changer for first-timers. RV delivery in Elizabethtown is offered by many RVezy hosts, who will tow or drive the rig directly to your campground or private property. They'll level it, hook up water, sewer, and electric, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Popular delivery destinations include the Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA, Hershey Road Campground, and Pinch Pond Family Campground. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this, and message them to confirm distance fees. It's the easiest way to enjoy a Pennsylvania RV trip without ever driving the RV yourself.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Elizabethtown,%20PennsylvaniaHow far can I drive on a typical Elizabethtown RV rental, and where can I go?
You've got plenty of road to explore from Elizabethtown, and many RVezy hosts offer generous mileage allowances or an RV rental with unlimited mileage. Popular RV road trips from Elizabethtown include Hersheypark (about 15 miles, 25 minutes), Lancaster Amish Country (about 20 miles, 30 minutes), Gettysburg National Military Park (about 55 miles, just over an hour), the Pocono Mountains (about 120 miles, 2.5 hours), and Washington D.C. (about 130 miles, 2.5 hours). Each host sets their own daily mileage cap and overage rate, both displayed clearly on the listing before you book, so you can match the right RV to your route with zero surprises.

You're surrounded by excellent options for RV camping in Elizabethtown. Top picks include Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA Holiday with full hookups, a pool, and pull-through sites for big rigs; Hershey Road Campground, a family park with a splash pad; Pinch Pond Family Campground & RV Park, a peaceful spot between Hershey and Lancaster; Hersheypark Camping Resort, a shuttle ride from the amusement park; and Thousand Trails Hershey for a resort-style stay. For a state park experience, Gifford Pinchot State Park is about 30 minutes west with lake access. Insider tip: KOA pull-through sites near the entrance fill first, so book those early.
koa.com/campgrounds/hershey/When is the best time of year to take an RV trip from Elizabethtown?
You've got a long, beautiful camping season here. The sweet spot for an Elizabethtown RV trip runs from late April through mid-October, with average highs climbing from the low 60s in April to the mid 80s in July and easing back to the mid 70s in September. Spring brings blooming farmland, summer means full Hersheypark hours and Lancaster farmers' markets, and fall (late September through October) delivers spectacular foliage along the Susquehanna River with fewer crowds. Winters are cold (lows around 22°F in January) with roughly 30 inches of annual snow, but some hosts still rent winter-ready RVs for events like the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Elizabethtown?
Yes, and first time renting an RV is easier here than in most places. Elizabethtown sits on flat, gently rolling farmland with wide, straight roads like Route 230 and PA-283, ideal for getting comfortable behind the wheel. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, and the propane system, and they remain a text away during your trip. If you'd rather skip the driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer under 24 feet for your first booking. They drive much like a large pickup and fit easily in Hersheypark-area campsites.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with my RV during the trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Elizabethtown PA booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a dead battery on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, a flat tire near Hershey, or a lockout at Pinch Pond Campground is handled with one phone call. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy messaging system, and RVezy customer support is standing by before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the orientation walkthrough at pickup so you can troubleshoot small issues (like resetting a GFCI outlet) without needing to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Elizabethtown RV rental into other states or across the border?
Yes, an RV road trip from Elizabethtown opens up the entire Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. You can typically drive your rental into New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio, all within a day's drive. Popular cross-state runs include the Jersey Shore (about 2.5 hours), Niagara Falls (about 5 hours), and Acadia National Park in Maine (about 10 hours). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message your host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Always confirm your route with your host so they can prepare paperwork.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's a realistic fuel budget for an RV trip from Elizabethtown?
Easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers around Elizabethtown average 8 to 12 MPG, while campervans (Class B) typically get 16 to 20 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices usually run a bit above the national average, so for a 4-day, 400-mile loop to Hershey, Lancaster, and Gettysburg you should budget roughly $150 to $250 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fuel up at Rutter's or Sheetz stations along PA-283 near Mount Joy before heading into Lancaster County, where rural prices can climb. Most RVs run on regular unleaded, but confirm fuel type with your host so you don't miscalculate at the pump.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Elizabethtown?
Booking ahead pays off in this corner of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania state park campsites like Gifford Pinchot can be reserved up to 11 months in advance through the official DCNR reservation system, and you'll want to grab summer weekends as soon as that window opens. Private parks near Hershey (KOA, Hershey Road, Hersheypark Camping Resort) often sell out 3 to 6 months ahead for July and August, and Hersheypark Halloween weekends in October book up even earlier. Pro tip: if your top choice is full, check back weekly for cancellations, or message your RVezy host since many know quieter spots like Pinch Pond that still have availability.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Elizabethtown for a motorhome rental?
Driving is forgiving here, which is why a motorhome rental in Elizabethtown is great for new RVers. You'll mostly use US-30, PA-283, and PA-743, which are flat, well-maintained, multi-lane roads connecting Lancaster, Hershey, and Harrisburg. Watch for two things specific to this area: low-clearance covered bridges in rural Lancaster County (the historic ones top out around 8 to 10 feet, so detour around them in any tall RV) and slow-moving Amish horse-drawn buggies on rural routes east of Elizabethtown, especially Sundays. The Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) is RV friendly with wide lanes. Pro tip: avoid downtown Lancaster at rush hour and use PA-283 instead.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Elizabethtown?
You'll be impressed by the local options. Most full-hookup campgrounds near Elizabethtown, including the Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA, Hershey Road Campground, and Hersheypark Camping Resort, offer water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric, Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, camp stores, swimming pools, and dump stations. Pennsylvania state parks like Gifford Pinchot mix modern and full-hookup sites with flush restrooms in season. Potable water fill stations are standard at reserved campgrounds, and many allow non-guests to use the dump station for a small fee ($10 to $20). Pro tip: if you're boondocking en route, the Cabela's in Hamburg, PA allows overnight RV parking with permission from the store manager.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/default.aspxWhat features and amenities will my RV rental in Elizabethtown actually include?
More than you'd expect. Most RVs listed on RVezy in Elizabethtown come fully equipped for a comfortable family RV trip in Elizabethtown: queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds (sleeping 4 to 8), a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning, a furnace for cool Pennsylvania nights, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many also include a TV, Wi-Fi hotspot, outdoor awning, and propane grill. Generators are common on Class A and Class C motorhomes for off-grid camping. The listing page shows exactly what's included with each rig, so you can match features to your trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Elizabethtown,%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and options do Elizabethtown RV hosts typically offer?
Lots of ways to customize your trip. Common add-ons from Elizabethtown hosts include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots and dishes ($25 to $50), camping chairs and outdoor rugs, portable grills, bike racks, generators, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on, with fees usually scaled by distance to spots like the KOA, Hershey Road Campground, or Pinch Pond. Mileage policies vary by host (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day, with overages around $0.35 to $0.50 per mile), and several hosts offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pickup and dropoff times are flexible. Just confirm during messaging to keep your trip stress-free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Elizabethtown,%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Elizabethtown?
Payment is simple and secure. When you rent an RV in Elizabethtown through RVezy, you pay the full rental amount (nightly rate, fees, add-ons, and protection plan) by credit card directly through the platform, never in cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup, typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the RV value, and it is released after the trip once the host confirms no damage, no missing items, and no policy violations. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos of the RV at pickup and dropoff, return it with the agreed fuel and tank levels, and message your host about any concerns immediately.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Elizabethtown during winter, and what should I know about cold-weather camping?
Yes, a winter RV rental in Elizabethtown PA can be a memorable adventure. Some RVezy hosts list year-round, and the area shines with events like the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg every January and Hersheypark Christmas Candylane in December. Winter temperatures average highs in the mid 30s and lows in the low 20s, with roughly 30 inches of snow per season, so look for RVs with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, a working furnace, and shore-power capability. Filter listings on RVezy for four-season rigs and message hosts to confirm winterization. Pro tip: book a campground with full hookups like the KOA so your water lines stay flowing in freezing temps.
