Camping near Georgetown, Pennsylvania
Georgetown is an unincorporated community in southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, set among the farms, rolling hills, and covered bridges of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The area sits within a short drive of the Lower Susquehanna River and puts RV travelers within reach of both rural Amish attractions and larger destinations like Lancaster city, Hershey, and Dutch Wonderland.
The surrounding countryside is largely flat to gently rolling, which makes access reasonable for larger rigs and travel trailers. Nearby private campgrounds include White Oak Campground, The Loose Caboose Campground, Roamers Retreat Campground, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Quarryville, PA, and Country Acres Campground. Options range from full-hookup RV sites to cabins, tent sites, and family-focused resorts with pools and planned activities.
For public land, the 224-acre Susquehannock State Park sits on a wooded plateau overlooking the Susquehanna River in southern Lancaster County and anchors a larger state park complex of nearly 450 acres. It is a common day-use anchor for RV trips based out of the private campgrounds around Georgetown.
Things to do near Georgetown
The Susquehannock State Park Complex offers scenic overlooks of the Susquehanna River, including Pinnacle Overlook and Urey Overlook, along with hiking trails, picnic areas, and raptor and bald eagle viewing during migration. Trails inside the park are short and family-friendly, making it a good half-day outing from a base camp.
Amish country attractions are the other main draw. Families typically build itineraries around Dutch Wonderland amusement park, Sight & Sound Theatres, Kitchen Kettle Village, Strasburg Rail Road, and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Country Acres Campground, part of the Bird-in-Hand family of properties, offers overnight guests a complimentary guided bus tour of Amish farmland Monday through Saturday.
On-site amenities at nearby resorts round out rainy-day plans, with pools, playgrounds, and cabin rentals common across the local campgrounds.

Southern Lancaster County has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. July is the warmest month, with average highs in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit, while January averages a high near 35°F and a low near 23°F. Precipitation is spread fairly evenly through the year, with a late-summer to early-fall peak, and roughly 23 inches of snow annually.
Peak camping demand runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with a strong second wave for fall foliage and Amish country tourism through October. Advance reservations are strongly recommended during summer and fall weekends, when private campgrounds and state park sites fill quickly.
Many privately operated campgrounds in the area close between late November and March, though select year-round options exist. Susquehannock State Park itself is open every day from sunrise to sunset, but overnight facilities operate on seasonal schedules, so travelers should confirm dates directly with the park office.

How to book a campsite
Private campgrounds near Georgetown, including White Oak Campground, The Loose Caboose Campground, Roamers Retreat Campground, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Quarryville, PA, and Country Acres Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, holiday weekends, and October foliage dates should be booked months out.
Pennsylvania state park and state forest campsites, including those at Susquehannock State Park, are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservation website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Most campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, with new inventory opening at noon Eastern Time. During the Memorial Day to Labor Day period, campers may stay up to 14 consecutive nights, and up to 21 consecutive nights the rest of the year.
What to expect on-site
Private RV parks in the Georgetown area typically offer full or partial hookups, level sites, picnic tables, fire rings, bathhouses, and family amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and stocked ponds. Sites range from open, grassy pull-throughs suited to big rigs to more compact wooded back-ins, so travelers with larger coaches should confirm site dimensions when booking.
Pennsylvania state park sites in this region lean rustic. Susquehannock State Park is oriented around day use and organized group tenting rather than full-hookup RV camping, so travelers who need hookups should plan to stay at a private campground and use the state park as a day-use base.
Expect quiet hours at most parks, leashed-pet rules with pets restricted to designated sites or loops, and a rural setting where cell coverage is generally reliable but not guaranteed. Working Amish farms nearby mean horse-and-buggy traffic on local roads, so plan for slower drives.
