Hallam camping overview
Hallam sits in eastern York County, Pennsylvania, roughly ten minutes east of the city of York and about twenty minutes west of Lancaster. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of the Susquehanna River, Pennsylvania Dutch Country, and the Hershey area, making it a practical base for a trip through south-central Pennsylvania.
Options nearby include Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground along the Susquehanna, the family-oriented Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday to the northeast, and closer-in private parks such as Indian Rock Campgrounds, Hershey Road Campground, and Ben Franklin RV Park. Most operate as private campgrounds with full or partial hookups suited to travel trailers and motorhomes.
For state-park camping, Gifford Pinchot State Park lies about twenty miles northwest in northern York County, with Codorus State Park southwest of York near Hanover. Both offer lakeside sites with electric hookups and are booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica.
Things to do near Hallam
Water recreation anchors most trips. Pinchot Lake at Gifford Pinchot State Park supports boating, fishing, and a public swim beach, and the 340-acre lake is designated a Big Bass Lake with walleye, catfish, largemouth bass, sunfish, and crappie. The Susquehanna River corridor near Bainbridge adds paddling, riverfront trails, and fishing access.
Family attractions cluster within an hour's drive. Hersheypark and Hershey's Chocolate World are about thirty minutes north, and Lancaster County's Amish farm country, markets, and Dutch Wonderland sit to the east. Gettysburg National Military Park is roughly forty-five minutes southwest for a full day of Civil War history.
Closer to camp, downtown York's Central Market, the Appalachian Trail, and the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail cover food stops, hiking, and cycling.

The main camping season across York County runs from mid-April through late October. Pennsylvania state park campgrounds, including Gifford Pinchot, follow a similar window, typically opening the second Friday in April and closing the third Sunday in October. Private parks near Hallam often open a few weeks earlier and close in early November, and a small number, including Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground, stay open year-round for self-contained rigs.
Summer is peak season. Waterfront and full-hookup sites at state parks fill quickly on weekends and holidays, and the KOA books out well in advance around Independence Day and Labor Day. Spring and fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and reliable foliage color from mid-October into early November.
Winter camping is limited. Some private parks offer plowed sites with electric hookups, but pool, playground, and bathhouse services are usually shut down, and pipes may be winterized.

How to book a site near Hallam
Pennsylvania state park campsites at Gifford Pinchot and Codorus are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least three days ahead of arrival and open up to eleven months in advance, so summer weekends should be locked in early. Stay limits run fourteen consecutive nights between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and twenty-one nights outside that window, with a required forty-eight-hour break between stays.
Private campgrounds such as Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday, Indian Rock Campgrounds, Hershey Road Campground, Ben Franklin RV Park, and Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground take direct bookings through their own websites or the KOA reservation portal. When booking, filter for pull-through sites, 30 or 50 amp service, and length limits that match the RV.
What to expect on-site
Private parks around Hallam tend to be family-oriented, with pools, playgrounds, camp stores, and organized weekend activities common at properties like Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday and Indian Rock Campgrounds. Sites are typically graveled or paved with fire rings and picnic tables, and larger rigs fit most pull-throughs at Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground and the KOA. Wi-Fi and cable are widespread but variable.
At Gifford Pinchot State Park, expect macadam pads that handle both tents and motorhomes, modern bathhouses with hot showers, a dump station, and electric hookups at most sites. Cell coverage is generally strong across York County. Firewood should be purchased on-site or locally to comply with Pennsylvania's quarantine rules on moving untreated wood.

Lewis State Park has dog-welcoming trails with sweeping Susquehanna River views, and the Heritage Rail Trail County Park (which passes right through York County) allows leashed dogs along its full 21-mile route. This is ideal if you are heading to Indian Rock Campground, Otter Creek Campground along the Susquehanna, or hosting family in town for a York Revolution game. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer it, then check their delivery radius and per-mile fee. Pro tip: delivery within roughly 30 miles of Hallam (think York, Lancaster, or Wrightsville) is usually very affordable.

If you're nervous about handling a larger rig, start with a smaller travel trailer or Class B campervan rental Hallam, or book delivery so the RV is set up and waiting for you. Pro tip: take a short practice loop on Route 462 (the old Lincoln Highway) before merging onto Route 30, it's a great low-stress warm-up.

Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance, so message them through the listing before booking to confirm. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: an RV road trip from Hallam through the Shenandoah Valley and Skyline Drive is one of the most scenic loops on the East Coast.
nps.gov/shen/index.htmWhat's the fuel cost and MPG for an RV trip around Hallam?
Budgeting fuel is straightforward in south-central Pennsylvania. Expect Class A motorhomes to get 7-10 MPG, Class C around 10-14 MPG, Class B campervans 16-20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually a 25-40% hit to its normal MPG). Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so check GasBuddy or fuel up across the river in Wrightsville or south near the Maryland border for better rates. A typical 200-mile weekend loop from Hallam to Gettysburg and back in a Class C costs roughly $60-$90 in fuel. Pro tip: avoid Route 30 at rush hour, the stop-and-go around York tanks your mileage fast.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Hallam?
Book early and you'll have your pick. Pennsylvania state parks like Gifford Pinchot, Codorus, and Samuel S. Lewis open reservations 11 months ahead through the DCNR's online reservation system, and prime summer weekends (especially July 4th and Labor Day) fill up within days of opening. Private campgrounds like Indian Rock and Otter Creek typically book 2-3 months ahead for peak season, though midweek sites are often available last-minute. Pro tip: if a campground is full, look at Hipcamp or Harvest Hosts, York County has several wineries and farms offering one-night RV stays that feel uniquely Pennsylvania.

Driving an RV around Hallam is genuinely manageable. The borough sits on flat-to-rolling terrain just off Route 30, a wide four-lane highway that connects easily to I-83 and the PA Turnpike. Watch for low railroad bridges in older parts of York and Lancaster (some clear only 11-12 feet), so always know your RV's height (your host will tell you at pickup). Amish Country east of Hallam has narrow rural roads and horse-drawn buggies, slow down and give them plenty of space. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December to February, so check PennDOT's 511PA traffic app before driving. Pro tip: avoid downtown Lancaster's tight one-way streets in any rig larger than a Class B.

Mileage policies vary: some hosts offer 100-150 free miles per night, others offer unlimited mileage, especially for longer trips. Popular add-ons include generator hours, bedding/towel packages, camp chairs, bike racks, and kitchen kits. Pro tip: ask your host for a quick orientation video before pickup day so you arrive familiar with the rig, you'll cut your walkthrough time in half and hit the road sooner.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, and your funds are processed safely until your trip begins. A refundable security deposit is placed on your card separately before pickup. The amount varies by RV and is returned after the trip as long as the rig comes back in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at both pickup and dropoff, take timestamped photos, and report any pre-existing damage right away. Pro tip: keep fuel and propane levels matching what you received at pickup, this is the most common and easiest deduction to avoid.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Hallam in the winter, and how do I prep for cold weather?
Yes, winter RV rental in Hallam is available and can be a quiet, beautiful way to experience south-central Pennsylvania. Winters here are mild by northeast standards, with highs typically in the 30s to 40s Fahrenheit and occasional snow. Many hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and insulated underbellies. For best results, choose a campground with shore power, bring extra propane, and skirt the RV if you will be parked for several days. Holiday lights in Lancaster County and Hersheypark Christmas Candylane are magical from an RV basecamp. Pro tip: ask your host for a winter-prep briefing at pickup so you know how to prevent overnight freeze-ups.
