Camping near Hampton, Pennsylvania
Hampton is a small village in Reading Township, Adams County, in south-central Pennsylvania, sitting between Gettysburg and the state capital region. The area is part of Adams County farm country, with rolling farmland, orchards, and easy access to U.S. Route 15 running north to Harrisburg and south to the Gettysburg battlefield.
RV travelers use Hampton as a base for the Gettysburg battlefields, a turning point of the American Civil War, protected today as Gettysburg National Military Park. The village lies within a short drive of both the battlefield to the south and Hersheypark and Harrisburg to the north, so day-trip options run from Civil War history to amusement parks and the Susquehanna River.
Campgrounds within a reasonable drive are mostly private RV parks on working farmland or around small lakes. Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, Cedar Lake Resort, Walmar Manor Campground, King's Campground, and Campground Island are the closest options, with additional state park camping available at Pine Grove Furnace and Caledonia.
Things to do near Hampton
Gettysburg National Military Park is the primary draw, with a museum and visitor center, ranger programs, and a driving tour of the battlefield. The Eisenhower National Historic Site, the home and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, sits adjacent to the battlefield and is accessed by shuttle from the visitor center.
Families staying at Gettysburg Farm RV Campground can pet and feed the animals and experience the planting and harvesting of crops on the 120-acre working farm along Conewago Creek. Cedar Lake Resort centers on a fish-filled 7 acre lake with an in-ground pool, playground, and petting zoo.
Outdoor day trips include Pine Grove Furnace State Park, which marks the midpoint of the Appalachian Trail and has two swimming lakes, and Caledonia State Park along U.S. Route 30. Hersheypark and the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg are both within about an hour's drive.

Summer is the peak camping season in Adams County. June through August brings warm, humid weather, and July is the busiest month at the battlefield and area campgrounds. Anniversary weekends around the July 1 to July 3 battle dates fill sites earliest, and holiday weekends across the summer typically sell out weeks ahead.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for touring the battlefield on foot. May sees wildflowers and greening farmland, while September and October bring cooler days, fall foliage, and Halloween events at many private campgrounds. Gettysburg Farm RV Campground runs its seasonal operation from mid-April through late October, with a haunted-barn Halloween celebration in the final weeks.
Winter is the quietest period. Most private RV parks in the area close or reduce services from November into spring. Snow and ice can affect access on smaller rural roads, and campers heading out in the shoulder months should confirm openings with each park directly.

I recommend this RV, driving this rig was simple and comfortable. The layout and design of the interior space was perfect and roomy. The dining set makes into a very nice long bed. I will rent this one again.

How to book campgrounds near Hampton
Private campgrounds in the Hampton area are booked directly through each park's website or by phone. Gettysburg Farm RV Campground is part of the Thousand Trails network, so members can reserve through Thousand Trails while non-members book nightly stays on the resort website. Cedar Lake Resort takes reservations through its own site and third-party platforms, and King's Campground and Walmar Manor Campground book directly with the operator.
Pennsylvania state park sites at Pine Grove Furnace and Caledonia are reserved through the Pennsylvania state park reservation system. Gettysburg National Military Park does not operate a public front-country RV campground, so nearby private parks handle overnight RV stays.
For summer weekends and the July battle anniversary, book several months out. Cancellations do open up closer to arrival, so it is worth checking again in the final weeks before a trip.
What to expect on the ground
