Campgrounds and RV parks near Hummels Wharf, PA

The Susquehanna River is the anchor activity. Renters use nearby ramps for kayaking, tubing, and smallmouth bass fishing, and paved rail-trail sections along the West Branch give riders and joggers flat, family-friendly miles. Caves and small museums round out rainy-day plans. Woodward Cave offers guided tours through its geological formations, and the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum provides a look at historic carriage manufacturing. Selinsgrove's shops and the Susquehanna University campus sit minutes south of town. Families staying at Little Mexico Campground or either Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort typically build days around on-site pools, mini-golf, and hayrides, then use the RV for half-day trips to state forest trailheads in Bald Eagle and Tiadaghton.

In Selinsgrove, the summers are warm and humid, the winters are freezing and snowy, and it is partly cloudy year round. Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, when private parks operate full amenities and pools, and demand for riverfront sites climbs on holiday weekends. Shoulder seasons reward planners. May brings dogwood and wildflower bloom in the surrounding ridges; September and October deliver crisp nights and hardwood fall color across the Susquehanna Valley without the summer crowds. Water levels on the river can spike after spring rain, so paddlers should check gauges before launching. Winter is the quietest window. Many private campgrounds near Hummels Wharf close or reduce services from late October through early April, and Pennsylvania state park campgrounds often shift facilities. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, and advance reservations are available for almost all campsites, so booking early for summer holidays is essential.

Expect a mix of full-hookup private resorts and simpler state-park style loops within a short drive of Hummels Wharf. Full-hookup sites typically include sewer, water, and electric, along with a picnic table and fire ring, while modern state park sites offer flush toilets and warm showers but may not include sewer at every pad. Renters should confirm rig-length limits and low-clearance approaches, since some rural roads in Snyder and Union counties carry weight restrictions. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the river corridor and thinner in the state forests. Campers may stay in a state park campground for up to 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and up to 21 consecutive nights during the remainder of the year. Anyone renting a campsite must be 18 years of age or older and should be present at the site during the stay.
