Overview of campgrounds near Jefferson
Jefferson is a small borough in York County, Pennsylvania, part of the York-Hanover metropolitan area in the state's south-central Piedmont region. It sits within Codorus Township, roughly a 45-minute drive north of Baltimore and within easy reach of York, Hanover, and Gettysburg. The surrounding countryside is rolling farmland and wooded hills, with camping options concentrated around Lake Marburg to the west and along the I-83 corridor to the east.
The anchor for outdoor recreation in the area is Codorus State Park, a 3,500-acre park in the rolling hills of southern York County built around 1,275-acre Lake Marburg, which has 26 miles of shoreline. The Codorus State Park Gift Shop and Museum sits within the park and is a useful first stop for maps and program information. Private options fill in around the state park: Ben Franklin RV Park and Indian Rock Campgrounds are closer to York, Cedar Lake Resort lies northwest near Dover, and Merry Meadows Recreation Farm is a short drive south across the Maryland line.
Together these campgrounds cover a mix of full-hookup RV parks, family resorts, and state-park sites suitable for tents, trailers, and larger motorhomes.
Things to do near Jefferson
Lake Marburg dominates the local recreation menu. Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, biking, boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, disc golf, and wildlife viewing, with scuba diving permitted at Sinsheim Cove and sledding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and snowmobiling added in winter. Codorus offers 54 holes of disc golf spread across wooded and open terrain, and mountain-bike trails run on the northern side of the lake. Swimming in the lake is not permitted, but a park swimming pool and sprayground operate seasonally.
Beyond the park, day trips are short. Gettysburg National Military Park, downtown York, and Hanover are all within about 30 minutes. Indian Rock Campgrounds sits close to the York County Heritage Rail Trail, giving cyclists paved trail access from camp.

The main camping season at the state park runs spring through fall. Codorus State Park's campground is open from the second Friday in April through November 1, with peak demand between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Stay limits at Codorus are a maximum of 14 consecutive nights between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and equipment must be removed for 48 hours before returning.
Summer weekends fill quickly at both the state park and the private resorts. Fall is a strong shoulder season: temperatures drop, foliage typically peaks in October, and Codorus hosts a well-known Halloween camping weekend when Friends of Codorus decorate camping loops for trick-or-treating and hayrides. Winter narrows the options. Private grounds such as Merry Meadows Recreation Farm, Cedar Lake Resort, and Indian Rock Campgrounds advertise year-round or extended operation, while state-park sites close after November 1.
Spring can bring wet, muddy conditions, and July and August are the wettest months of the year, so summer campers should plan for afternoon thunderstorms and check reservation-agency updates on flood-prone loops.

How to book campgrounds near Jefferson
Codorus State Park uses the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system operated through ReserveAmerica. Sites, cottages, and yurts can be booked up to 11 months in advance, and most site types require reservations to be made at least three days before arrival. Online reservations for day use and overnight facilities are available, or campers can call toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday. For holiday weekends, book as early as the calendar opens and confirm rig-length limits before arriving.
