Campgrounds and RV parks near Jermyn, PA

Water recreation is the anchor at Lackawanna State Park. The 198-acre Lackawanna Lake supports boating, fishing, mountain biking, and swimming, and the park is stocked with a mix of cold-water and warm-water species. The park pool opens seasonally, with day-use areas closing at dusk and specific pool hours posted by the park office. On land, multi-use trails wind through forest around the lake, with routes suited to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Wildlife viewing is strong during spring and fall migrations, and the park runs guided outdoor recreation, hands-on activities, and outdoor education programs year-round for all ages. At Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort, guests can fish, swim, kayak, or paddleboard, and the resort adds a heated pool, sports courts, playgrounds, and a snack bar on the land side.

Camping in this part of Pennsylvania is a warm-season activity for most travelers. The Lackawanna State Park campground opens the second Friday in April and closes October 14, with a maximum camping period of 14 consecutive days in the summer season and 21 consecutive days in the off-season. The park itself is open year-round, sunrise to sunset, but the pool, overnight areas, and other facilities operate on posted seasonal hours. Summer weekends and holidays draw the heaviest demand, and reservations are strongly recommended, especially from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Spring and early fall offer cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong shoulder-season foliage. Most private campgrounds in the area also close for the cold months, so winter visitors should confirm operating dates directly with each operator. One planning note for state-park travelers: beginning in 2027, the Lackawanna State Park campground is undergoing a major shower house renovation project, and portions of the campground will be temporarily closed in phases while DCNR replaces outdated shower and restroom facilities. Impacted sites are blocked from reservations on the booking system.

At Lackawanna State Park, camping options include tent sites, walk-in tent sites, RV sites with electric hookups, cabins, and yurts. Some sites are reported as not perfectly level, so smaller rigs have an easier time in the tighter loops, while larger loops accommodate bigger trailers. Shower houses provide warm showers and flush toilets, and a sanitary dump station is near the campground entrance. Pet rules matter: pets are allowed at designated sites in specific loops and must be leashed and supervised. Cell service can be spotty in and around many Pennsylvania State Parks, so downloading the park map before arrival is a good idea. Firewood is regulated statewide. Bringing firewood into Pennsylvania is prohibited and could result in a citation, so travelers should source local firewood to help protect the forest from invasive insects.
