Camping near Jessup, Pennsylvania
Jessup sits in Lackawanna County in northeastern Pennsylvania, on the northern edge of the Scranton metro area and within easy reach of the Pocono Mountains and the Endless Mountains lake country. The terrain is forested ridgeline broken by lakes and creeks, and most RV-friendly campgrounds cluster to the north and east of the city along Interstate 81, U.S. Route 6, and PA Route 590.
The closest public option is Lackawanna State Park, a 1,445-acre state park about ten miles north of Scranton built around a 198-acre lake. Private RV parks in the surrounding Wayne County lake region include Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort near Waymart, Cherry Ridge Campsites and Lodging, Inc. outside Honesdale, and Three Pines Campground in Lakeville near Lake Wallenpaupack. Benton Hills Mobile Home Park sits closer to the Scranton area.
Most sites are wooded, and hookup levels vary from electric-only at the state park to full 30/50-amp service at the private resorts. Cell service can be spotty in the surrounding hills, so travelers should download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival.
Things to do around Jessup
Lake activities anchor most trips. Lackawanna Lake supports boating, fishing, mountain biking, swimming, and multi-use trails through forested picnic areas. Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort centers on a spring-fed lake with fishing, kayak and paddleboard rentals, a heated pool, a swimming beach, a dedicated pet beach, and organized weekend activity programs.
Cherry Ridge Campsites and Lodging offers a 21-acre spring-fed lake with swimming, fishing, and rowboat rentals, plus a weekend Country Kitchen and its long-running square, round, and western line dance weekends in on-site dance halls. Three Pines Campground sits close to Lake Wallenpaupack, one of the state's largest lakes and a hub for power boating and water sports.
Off-site, families can day-trip to downtown Scranton, historic Honesdale, and the wider Pocono Mountains for shops, restaurants, and additional hiking.

The primary RV season in northeastern Pennsylvania runs from mid-spring through mid-fall. Lackawanna State Park's campground opens in mid-April and closes in mid-October, and most private parks in the region operate on a similar May through October window. Cherry Ridge runs from the beginning of May through the end of October, and its dance-weekend programming runs across that season.
Summer is peak season. Weekends, holidays, and school breaks book heavily, and Lackawanna State Park in particular is often full on weekends during July and August. Independence Day and Labor Day frequently fill months in advance.
Early fall brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and Pocono foliage color that typically peaks from late September into mid-October. Winter shuts down most campgrounds in the area. Travelers arriving between late November and mid-April should expect very limited overnight camping options and plan for freezing temperatures and possible snow.
How to book near Jessup
Lackawanna State Park is reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks system on ReserveAmerica, or by phone at 888-PA-PARKS. The booking window opens up to eleven months ahead of arrival, and most sites must be reserved at least three days before arrival. A phased shower-house rehabilitation project is closing portions of the campground while other loops remain open, so travelers should check which loops are available before selecting a site.
Private parks handle their own reservations. Keen Lake books through its website and Campspot, Cherry Ridge takes reservations by phone at the office, and Three Pines is call-ahead and heavily geared toward seasonal renters. Holiday weekends at private parks typically require a two-night minimum with prepayment.
What to expect on site
Lackawanna State Park offers wooded tent sites, walk-in sites, paved RV sites with electric hookups, camping cottages, and yurts, along with a sanitary dump station near the campground entrance and modern shower houses with flush toilets. Pets are permitted only in designated pet-friendly loops, so those traveling with dogs should filter for pet sites when booking. Firewood cannot be brought into Pennsylvania from out of state due to invasive-pest quarantines, so plan to buy local wood.
Private parks in the area generally offer full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, laundry, camp stores, playgrounds, and family activity programming. Some loops and older private-park sites are tight for larger rigs, so it is worth confirming site length and pull-through access when booking a Class A or long fifth wheel. Quiet hours are enforced across the area.
