Campgrounds and RV parks near Kulpmont, PA

Knoebels Amusement Resort is the anchor attraction. The park includes wooden coasters, a historic carousel, Crystal Pool, Three Ponds Golf Course, arcade games, dining, and gift shops. Admission and parking are free; guests pay per ride with ticket books or with a Ride All Day Pass on select days. Beyond the park, the region offers fishing and paddling on the Susquehanna River and its branches, hiking on state game lands, and the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine tour in Ashland. Weiser State Forest and its Roaring Creek Tract sit within a short drive and offer trails suitable for day hikes. RVers staying at Knoebels Resort and Campground or Knoebels Lake Glory Campground can walk or ride the free shuttle to the amusement park, while J and D Campgrounds, Springbrook Family Campground, and Camp-A-While serve as quieter bases for families splitting time between the park and outdoor recreation.

The camping season in this part of Pennsylvania is tied closely to the Knoebels calendar. Knoebels operates its amusement park April through September, with limited days in October and January for seasonal events. Knoebels Lake Glory Campground typically runs from mid-April through mid-October, and the main Knoebels Resort and Campground follows a similar late-April to late-October window. Most nearby private campgrounds run on comparable schedules. Summer is the busiest stretch, especially weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Weekday arrivals see thinner crowds and easier site selection. Spring brings cool nights and higher rainfall, while early fall delivers warm afternoons, cool sleeping weather, and foliage color across the ridges. Winter camping options are extremely limited. Most private parks close, water systems are drained, and Knoebels shuts its campground with the park. Renters traveling in late fall or early spring should confirm operating dates and hookup availability directly with each campground before booking.

Expect wooded, rolling terrain with gravel or grass pads. Sites at Knoebels are often a simple gravel parking pad, so leveling blocks are useful. Water fill stations and dump stations are provided, though many sites do not include individual water or sewer hookups. Interior roads can be tight, and larger rigs may have difficulty maneuvering when the park is full, so travelers with longer fifth wheels or Class A coaches should call ahead to confirm site fit. Other nearby parks vary in layout and access. Cell service is generally decent on the ridgetops and spotty in the hollows. Bring bug spray for spring and early summer, a rain plan for afternoon thunderstorms, and firewood purchased locally to comply with Pennsylvania rules on moving untreated wood.
