Lavelle is a small community in Schuylkill County in Pennsylvania's Coal Region, sitting in ridge-and-valley terrain northwest of Pottsville. The area works well as an RV base: it is close to Interstate 81, within easy reach of the Susquehanna River Valley, and surrounded by working farms, forested ridges, and the northern edge of the Appalachian Trail corridor. Campgrounds within a short drive cover a range of styles. Camp-A-While in Hegins and Springbrook Family Campground focus on family-run private sites with pools and weekend events, while Echo Valley Campground sits in Tremont between the Mahantango and Appalachian mountain ranges as a year-round family campground one mile off Interstate 81, offering RV, tent, and cabin accommodations. For families with kids, the biggest draw north of Lavelle is Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, which operates both Knoebels Resort and Campground and Knoebels Lake Glory Campground. Knoebels is the United States' largest free-admission amusement park, with more than 60 rides including six roller coasters, anchoring RV trips to this part of Pennsylvania.
