Campgrounds and RV parks near Marion Heights, PA

The main draw is Knoebels Amusement Resort, a park where admission and parking are free. Knoebels has more than 60 rides, including Phoenix, which has been named the world's best wooden coaster, plus the Crystal Pool with waterslides and diving boards, arcades, and mini-golf. Leashed dogs are welcome in outdoor areas of the park and at both Knoebels campgrounds, which matters for families traveling with pets. At Knoebels Lake Glory Campground, a five-acre lake allows fishing and family time, with daily fishing passes available at the camp store. The surrounding Susquehanna River Valley adds hiking, state-park day trips, and river access. Knoebels campground guests can also join scheduled Saturday morning children's activities featuring crafts, games, and demonstrations.

Camping near Marion Heights is a seasonal affair driven largely by the Knoebels calendar. Knoebels typically opens in late April and runs through late October, with the Crystal Pool operating from late May through Labor Day weekend. Most private campgrounds in the area operate on a similar April-to-October window. Summer is peak season. Weekends fill quickly because families time their trips to the amusement park, and sites sit close together with minimal privacy between neighbors when the campground is full. Midweek stays in June or September are noticeably quieter. Spring and fall bring cooler nights and less crowded sites, though pool and waterslide access ends after Labor Day weekend. Winter camping is limited in this part of Pennsylvania: snow, freezing temperatures, and closed park amenities mean the Knoebels campgrounds and most nearby private campgrounds shut down until spring. Fall foliage in the surrounding ridges typically peaks in mid-to-late October.

At Knoebels Resort and Campground, expect a family-focused setup rather than a resort experience. Sites are electric-only, with no water or sewer hookups at individual sites, and a complimentary water filling and dumping station is available exclusively for campers. Sites sit close together with minimal privacy, and narrow internal roads require careful navigation for larger RVs. Five bathhouses are distributed around the property with individual shower stalls, restrooms, and coin-op laundry, and reviewers consistently note they are cleaned daily though fixtures are older. A complimentary shuttle runs through the campground to the covered bridge entrance to the park, and Lake Glory has its own shuttle to Knoebels. Lake Glory offers larger, more spaced-out sites with full hookup options including 30- and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and a dump station. The smaller private campgrounds in the area tend to be simpler, with gravel pads and standard 30/50-amp electric.
