Camping near Maytown, Pennsylvania
Maytown sits in northwest Lancaster County, a few miles east of the Susquehanna River and roughly midway between Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Hershey. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of Hersheypark, Lancaster County's Amish Country, the Pennsylvania Dutch farm belt, and the river corridor that runs south toward Columbia and Wrightsville.
Most camping near Maytown is at private RV parks and family campgrounds rather than state-run land. Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground sits along River Road east of the Susquehanna, while Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday and Hershey Road Campground lie a short drive north toward Hershey. Pinch Pond Family Campground is a Manheim-area option to the east, and Hershey RV and Camping Resort rounds out the cluster of parks aimed at Hersheypark visitors.
Expect rolling farmland, wooded ridges, and small-town road networks. The area is well-suited to families combining theme-park days with quieter evenings at camp.
Things to do around Maytown
Hersheypark is the anchor attraction for most families staying in the Maytown area, with roller coasters, water rides, and ZooAmerica within the same complex. Lancaster's Amish Country, Dutch Wonderland, and downtown Lancaster's market and museum district are all within easy reach, and Gettysburg National Military Park is a manageable day trip to the west.
Outdoor options include kayaking and fishing on the Susquehanna, cycling the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail that runs through Bainbridge and Marietta, and hiking at nearby state parks. On-site amenities at the local KOA and family parks typically include pools, mini-golf, stocked ponds, and organized weekend activities during peak season, useful when a rest day at camp is called for.

The core RV season around Maytown runs from mid-April through late October. Summer brings warm, humid days with afternoon thunderstorms common in July and August. This is also when Hersheypark operates its full schedule and when campgrounds run their planned family programming, so weekends fill quickly and advance booking is strongly advised.
Spring and fall are quieter and often more comfortable. May and June deliver green farmland and mild evenings, while late September and October bring foliage color across the ridges and along the Susquehanna. Hersheypark's Halloween and Christmas events extend demand into October and December at parks that stay open year-round.
Winter camping options are limited. Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground lists year-round operation, but most family parks close or run reduced services from late fall through March. Snow is usually modest but ice storms and cold snaps do occur, and hookups may be winterized at seasonal parks.

How to book near Maytown
Private campgrounds near Maytown take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday books through the KOA reservation system, which allows online site selection. Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground, Hershey Road Campground, Pinch Pond Family Campground, and Hershey RV and Camping Resort each handle bookings independently.
For summer weekends, holiday weekends, and any dates overlapping Hersheypark events, reserve well ahead, ideally two to three months out. Pennsylvania state park campgrounds in the wider region can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, with advance reservations available for almost all campsites, which matters if a state park stay is part of a longer itinerary.
What to expect on arrival
Most parks in the area offer full or partial hookup RV sites, pull-throughs sized for larger rigs, and a mix of shaded and open sites. Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground offers about 60 sites and accepts tents, big rigs, and pull-throughs, and the other private parks in the cluster cater to a similar mix of RVs and families.
Cell coverage is generally reliable across Lancaster County, and Wi-Fi is offered at most private parks though speeds vary. Roads into the campgrounds are paved secondary routes; drivers of longer motorhomes should follow park-provided directions rather than default GPS routing, since some rural shortcuts include narrow bridges and tight farm intersections.
