Camping near Midway, Pennsylvania
Midway is a small census-designated place in Adams County, Pennsylvania, positioned within easy driving distance of Gettysburg and the York County countryside. The area sits in the rolling hills of south-central Pennsylvania, which makes it a practical base for RV travelers combining Civil War history with lake recreation and family-oriented resorts.
Camping options in the surrounding area range from a large state park campground to private RV resorts with full hookups and activity programming. The 3,490-acre Codorus State Park is in the rolling hills of southern York County, and the 1,275-acre Lake Marburg has 26 miles of shoreline and is a rest stop for migrating waterfowl and shorebirds. Private operators such as Gettysburg Farm RV Campground and Drummer Boy Camping Resort focus on families, with pools, playgrounds, and organized activities.
RVers using Midway as a launch point can reach Gettysburg National Military Park, Hanover, York, and Lancaster within a short drive, plus Hershey and Baltimore as day trips. Codorus State Park Gift Shop and Museum, Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, Campground Island, Cedar Lake Resort, and Drummer Boy Camping Resort are among the closest options for parking an RV overnight.

The prime camping window in this part of Pennsylvania runs from mid-April through late October. Private resorts typically operate on that pattern: Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm runs as a seasonal campground from mid-April through late October, accommodating RVs up to 35 feet with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections. The state park campground opens from the second Friday in April through November 1st.
Summer weekends around Gettysburg book heavily, especially around the July anniversary of the battle, and holiday weekends fill months ahead. At Codorus, the park swimming pool opens Memorial Day weekend for weekends only, until the second week of June when it opens daily.
Shoulder-season trips in May, September, and October bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fall color across the rolling farmland. Winter camping is limited: most private resorts close, though Codorus State Park is open year round with a reduced footprint.

Robert was extremely helpful, kind, knowledgeable, and patient with us. He was always available to help on the way and responded as soon he saw or heard. As first time RV renters, he gave us the best possible experience we could of had. We highly recommend.

I recommend this RV, driving this rig was simple and comfortable. The layout and design of the interior space was perfect and roomy. The dining set makes into a very nice long bed. I will rent this one again.

This RV was as advertised. It was setup at our campsite when we arrived at Camp Swatara. I would say Daniel is a great host.

How to book campgrounds near Midway
Codorus State Park uses the Pennsylvania state parks reservation system. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival. Reservations for staying overnight in state parks can be made using the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, from 7:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Campers may stay in a state park campground for up to 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day, up to 21 consecutive nights during the remainder of the year, and must vacate and remove all equipment for 48 hours between reservations.
Gettysburg Farm RV Campground and Drummer Boy Camping Resort are part of the Thousand Trails network. Both accept direct bookings through the Thousand Trails site and offer seasonal or annual site agreements for longer stays. For popular holiday weekends and the summer peak, reserve as early as the booking window opens.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in the area range from wooded state-park loops to open, activity-packed private resorts. Codorus State Park provides sites across multiple categories: full-hookup sites with water, sewer, and electric; modern electric sites with 30 or 50-amp service; modern non-electric sites; and tent-only sites. Campground amenities include potable drinking water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection and a dump station, and there is also a camp host, picnic pavilion, boat launch, amphitheater and pet walking area.
Drummer Boy Camping Resort offers full hookup sites with pools, mini golf, and bathhouses across the property. Gettysburg Farm offers a honey wagon service (free sewage dump) three times weekly for sites without sewage hookups.
Cell coverage can be spotty in wooded loops, and some private resorts have large seasonal populations, so weekend evenings can feel busy. Downloading park maps and confirming rig-length limits before arrival is recommended.
